Script For Research Title (Yusuf)
I’m Muhammad Yusuf M. Ali, and the next research title that we came up with is entitled “Online vs. Face-to-Face
Learning Setting: The Impact of COVID-19 on the Performance of Accounting Professors and Students at
Mindanao State University – Main Campus, Marawi City.”
This study aims to explore the effects of online versus face-to-face learning environments on the academic
performance of both accounting professors and students at MSU – Main Campus in Marawi City. It is particularly
focused on how these impacts were observed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The reason for conducting this study is that understanding the impacts of these learning environments can help us
create better strategies for future educational practices. These strategies are useful in both crisis situations like a
pandemic or during regular settings, ensuring education continuity and effectiveness.
This research relies on primary data gathered directly from the accounting professors and students at the MSU
Main Campus in Marawi City. They are the key respondents who will provide insights for this study.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The main problem this study aims to address is determining which learning environment, online or face-to-face,
leads to better academic performance and perceptions of effectiveness. The research also seeks to understand the
challenges of both methods during the pandemic, particularly in terms of how online learning has affected the
mental health of professors and students. Moreover, it will evaluate satisfaction levels and identify which
approach better supports the understanding, retention, and application of accounting principles.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
To guide this study, the following research questions have been formulated:
2. What are the perceptions of professors and students regarding the effectiveness and challenges of online
and face-to-face learning during the COVID-19 pandemic?
3. How has online learning affected the mental health of professors and students, particularly in terms of
stress and anxiety?
4. What strategies can be recommended to improve mental health support in both learning environments?
5. What is the level of satisfaction with both online and face-to-face learning, and which approach is more
effective for understanding, retention, and application of accounting principles?
This study directly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal of Quality Education, under the QUALITY
EDUCATION, ensuring that learners, regardless of the setting, receive an education that helps them grow and thrive
academically.
[Respondents]
This study focuses on accounting professors and students at MSU-Marawi to assess the effects of online and face-
to-face learning on their academic performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The study examines measurable variables such as academic performance, perceptions, satisfaction
levels, and mental health impacts.
- The target respondents (accounting professors and students) suggest that data will be collected
through structured means like surveys or questionnaires, common in quantitative research.
- The research questions aim to determine the effects and relationships between variables, such as
comparing online and face-to-face learning in terms of performance, satisfaction, and mental health
outcomes.
Gathering data through surveys and questionnaires is the instrument that will be used in order to analyze the
effectiveness, challenges, and satisfaction in both learning modes.
[Research Gap]
The study addresses a knowledge and population gap, as limited research has been conducted on this specific
group and setting, especially during the pandemic.
The knowledge gap stems from the lack of detailed research specific to this setting and discipline, while the
population gap focuses on the underrepresentation of this particular group in existing studies.
[Framework Explanation]
The target respondents experience two primary learning environments: Online Learning and Face-to-Face Learning.
These two environments influence three key outcomes:
[Conclusion]
This framework provides a clear structure to analyze how different learning methods during the pandemic affect
students’ performance, satisfaction, and mental health.
