Course Number: ASEAN 221

Course Title: ASEAN Cultural Heritage

Course Description: Cultural program, objectives and past initiatives of the ASEAN
organization; issues on cultural heritage in the ASEAN member countries.

Course Credit: 3 units

Course Prerequisite: None

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:


1. Discuss the cultural program, objectives and past initiatives of the ASEAN Organization;
2. Analyze the contemporary issues regarding cultural heritage in the ASEAN member
countries;
3. Exhibit a general awareness and appreciation of the cultural wealth and diversity of the
countries within the region; and
4. Undertake research on comparative government policies and laws on cultural heritage
preservation in some ASEAN countries.

Teaching Methodologies:

The course will be delivered online using a combination of:


Guided independent study using resource-based course package with study guides,
compilations of readings, multimedia materials, and relevant Web resources;
Case analysis and
Computer mediated communication and collaboration using UPOU’s learning
management system (MyPortal) and relevant applications (e.g. blogs, wikis).
