1. BACKGROUND
Emammy School typically manages a vast amount of data relating to students, staff,
administration, academics, and finances. Manual management of this data can be time-
consuming, prone to errors, and inefficiency. Implementing a School Database Management
System can significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of data management, while also
providing numerous benefits to various stakeholders within the school community.

4
2. PROBLEM STATEMENT
Unfortunately, Emammy school does not have a systematic way to store information about
students. Instead, they save the data in excel sheets or just a book registry. When the staff or
administrator wants to record the data of a student, they have to fill out a paper form. The data
might be lost if there are a lot of problems at the same time.
Also, it can be hard to find and update information about students and class arrangements.
Teachers have the same problems as administrators when they use a manual system, like not
being able to keep track of students' behavior, results and attendance. This will most likely lead
to loss of data in the future due to lack of a systematic way to record and store the data.

5
3.PROPOSED SOLUTION
With the database management system that I am coming up with, will provide the school with
data information about students, staff and school facilities. It will let the administration store
updated information about the staff members available, subjects that each staff is teaching and
the timings hence reducing confusion that may be led due to use of manual storage of data which
often get lost. This database management system will also make sure that every student in the
school is kept up to date by availing; students' names, teachers' names and performance progress.
The database system will also keep track of exams, assessments, grades, and progress of a
student in school. This database system will for sure make the school organized and have less or
none inconveniences hence saving a lot of time which is essential in a school facility.

6
4.PROJECT OBJECTIVES
I)To automate processes like student registration, attendance tracking and grade recording.
ii)To design a user-friendly interface for different users (e.g., teachers, parents and students).
iii)To implement robust security measures to protect student and staff information that may be
sensitive.
iv)To be able to store large amount of the schools’ data for a long period of time in an organized
way.

7
5.LITERATURE REVIEW
School database management systems (SDBMS) offer a centralized platform
for managing crucial information, streamlining operations, and enhancing
decision-making. This literature review explores existing research on SDBMS,
highlighting key functionalities, benefits, challenges, and recent
advancements.
Functionalities of SDBMS:
• Student Management: Store and manage student data (demographics,
grades, attendance, health records, etc.). (E.g., Alzahrani , 2019; Onyancha
& Migiro , 2020)

Benefits of SDBMS:
• Improved data accuracy and integrity: Reduces errors and
inconsistencies in data management. (E.g., Chen & Zhang, 2014; Dwivedi et
al., 2017)

8
6.METHODOLOGY
I) Research methodology.
I interviewed my sibling who is a student at the Emammy school and observed his manually
made report form. It is at that time that I noticed the current database management system of the
school was manual. This provided me with a critical descriptive data at much less expense.

ii)Implementation and deployment.

After setting up my database management system in the school I will ensure that the staff,
students and parents will be fully trained to ensure efficient usage of the system.

9.CONCLUSION
It is with no doubt that Emammy school requires this system and if installed , the school will
have their database management system running smoothly.
