segregation has led to a primary concern on campus. In the previous

project implemented in VMIS, a big container was set to be a proper bin
for students to put plastic bottles in, but it was also unfortunately
removed.
This calls for urgent action to promote responsible waste segregation
and recycling.

This project seeks to educate and engage Grade 9 students in these

practices, as they are at a pivotal stage where values of responsibility
and environmental consciousness can be effectively developed.

This project aims to empower students with the knowledge and skills to
become responsible environmental stewards. By surveying students'

Program Description behaviors and knowledge regarding recycling and waste management,
we will identify areas for improvement. The survey results will guide
the orientation and activities, providing a unique opportunity to foster a
culture of environmental responsibility within the school community.
Methodology
The students will attend an orientation in the Vicente Madrigal
Integrated School Covered Court. This event will present a unique
opportunity to empower students with the knowledge and skills they
need to become responsible environmental stewards. It will explain the
importance of recycling and segregation in schools by highlighting the
benefits and challenges of implementing recycling activities.

Before the orientation, students will complete a survey to gather data

about their recycling and waste disposal behaviors. With the help of
facilitators, we will refine the recycling and segregation program based
on the survey findings. During the orientation, facilitators will ask

questions related to the topic, with cash prizes for those who answer
correctly to encourage engagement. We will also conduct a follow-up
survey to assess what the students have learned after the orientation.

At the end of the orientation, the facilitators will announce a one-week

collection of segregated waste for each classroom. Each classroom will
receive two trash bins for segregating paper and plastics. The segregated
materials will be collected during this period. Following this collection,
scouts will assist in cleaning the gathered plastics in preparation for the
contest. All collected papers and plastics will encourage students to
showcase their creativity by transforming recyclable materials into new
functional items for various purposes. There will be three winners, each
receiving cash prizes. After the contest, participants will complete a
follow-up survey to reflect on what they have learned and recognized
about the importance of segregation and recycling in promoting
environmental responsibility.

recycling and apply it both at school and home. They develop a sense of
environmental responsibility, becoming more mindful of their actions
toward waste management. Fewer improper waste disposals occur as
students become more educated and committed to recycling practices.
By empowering these students with the knowledge and tools for proper
waste management, they can become sustainability advocates, setting an
example for younger peers and influencing positive change within the
school community.
