6. Emerging areas identified and its Global relevance

For the programmes offered in the information technology department viz. 4 – year
BTech (IT) and 2-Year MTech (IT), the following areas are identified as emerging areas:
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics, Cloud
Computing, Block chain and Cyber Security.

Since we live in the “world of information”, information technology has become a part
of our daily lives. Many corporations have created the so-called “IT departments” to manage
computer technologies related to their business. Recently, the Wireless technologies, Analytics,
IoT & Cloud and Cyber-security and Block chain have radically changed the way technology
and businesses work. There has been a synergistic development between business requirements
and technology growth.

Information technology helps to build and grow the commerce and business sector and
generate maximum possible output. The time taken by different sectors to generate business is
now minimized with advancement in Information technology. It provides electronic security,
storage, and efficient communication.

7. Curriculum identified based on emerging thrust areas including

interdisciplinary areas, Employability based courses

1. Artificial Intelligence
2. Internet of Things (IoT)
3. Block chain
4. Robotics
5. Quantum Computing

8. Any significant innovations in curriculum, teaching, learning and
evaluation, research and extension,Academic and Administrative governance
introduced by the department
 Our Curriculum is designed based on Choice Based Credit System allowing
the students to select and/or exempt the courses with a range of Programme
Electives, Open Electives, On-line courses, one-credit courses, course
advancement scheme (fast track scheme) etc.
 Our Curriculum is designed in such a way that it gives more importance to
soft-skill and professional skill development by giving credits to Professional
skills training or industrial training so that every effort of students is
rewarded with credits.
 Project work for final years has been divided in to 2 phases, first one in VI
semester and second one in VII semester, considering the students who have
got on-campus placement to do their industrial training/internship during
VIII semester without any difficulty.
 The students those who have not got placement offers will either do
internship in industry (if they got any from reputed organization) or project
work in the campus during VIII semester. Such flexibility is provided to the
students.
 General Awareness and social building courses like Universal human values,
Value education and Environmental science courses are introduced in the
curriculum to enable the students to understand what is life, what is family,
what is friendship, what is nature and how they are interconnected, how to
protect the environment etc.
 Another important course Comprehensive Test/Viva with 2 credits has been
introduced in the curriculum during VII semester in order to make the
students recall/refresh their core course skills what they have studied from I
semester to VI semester.

21. Outcome of the meeting with faculty

 All faculty are moving towards the faculty appraisal marks, not able to
concentrate on TLP. Incentives only based on research components. It will be
better if TLP is also considered. Time allotted for research is very less.
 Laboratory systems are to updated
 Separate lab for project and research
 Students self learning activity to be improved
 DA /Increment / Promotion to be improved. No Scale difference between
new designation and old designations
 Casual leave instead of 2 days per month, it may be increased based on the
requirement
 Data collection is very hectic work. Common data base may be developed
with required format
 Based on the GATE syllabus , all the components may be added like Theory
of computation and compiler design in the curriculum

22. Outcome of the meeting with Students

 Need physical orientation programme for second year students
 Need time to do self learning
 Books and library access for second year students
