GROUP PROJECT SEAA/ SKAB 4613

Deadline: 7thDecember 2024

1) Understanding of various water management issues is crucial as basis or


formulating effective and implementable solution especially related to water
resources enhancement and demand management.
2) This assignment aimed at exposing students on certain water management issue
by conducting survey to assess public awareness/opinion and analyzing secondary
information/data.
3) This is a group project which should consist of FOUR or FIVE MEMBERS only.
4) Each group will be given one of the following titles.
5) The report should include the followings
• Introduction: should describe the need of such study, objective,
literature
• Methodology: should describe the survey and observation methods,
sample size and the questionnaire. Include statistics and calculations .
• Results and discussion: should be supported by information/data to be
obtained through survey/interview or/and observation and data
collection
• Conclusion and recommendation: highlight important findings and
suggest actions/initiatives to overcome the problem or future work
6) The report should be between 15 to 20 pages (1.5 spacing). Submit in e-learning, in
PDF format.
7) Provide your power point presentation also include interesting and informative
presentation with infographics.

8) List your references correctly and provide the link if it’s from website.

SELECT ONE TOPIC

I. Should the Malaysia use more groundwater to meet future demand?


Perform detailed desk study and also survey from general public's opinion
on the above topic. Discussion should include statistics on availability (
scientific data support) and from general survey involving diverse group of
stakeholders with widely varying needs.
II. Should the government increase water tariff toward full cost recovery ?.
How can we optimize the efficiency and sustainability of our water supply
and distribution system to minimize cost and environmental impact while
ensuring reliable access to clean water ? Perform detailed desk study and
also survey from general public's involving diverse group of stakeholders
with widely varying needs /opinion on the above topic.
III. Is Malaysia’s Water Law sufficient to control water pollution? Perform
detailed desk study and also survey from general public's opinion and level
of awareness on the above topic. Summarize Malaysia's water law related
and the sectors related to water governance. Report in detail your steps
taken to initiate the awareness. How is the effectiveness on before and
after ? Involving diverse group of stakeholders with widely varying needs.
IV. Transforming water use behavior for increasing water use efficiency.
Discuss with case studies locally and abroad as example on the changes
made and how it did/ did not make the difference. Also design a small
experiment locally involving diverse group of stakeholders with widely
varying needs report the outcome before and after.
V. The future strategy for meeting demand will be on demand management
as opposed to supply enhancement. Find at least five successful case
studies globally. Compare all the case studies by tabulating the success
factors and constraints. Perform detailed desk study and also survey from
general public's opinion involving diverse group of stakeholders with
widely varying needs on the above topic.
VI. Investigating the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources. Explore
the effects of climate change on water resources in a particular area.
Analyse available historical data/ literatures and predictions, and assess
how changing climate patterns are affecting water availability and quality.
Conduct surveys involving diverse group of stakeholders with widely
varying needs to understand how local communities are adapting to these
changes and what measures they believe should be implemented.
VII. Assessing the Efficiency of Water Conservation Programs Question:
Evaluate the effectiveness of water conservation programs and policies
implemented local authorities. analyse the impact of these initiatives on
water consumption, conservation practices, and public awareness. Survey
participants involving diverse group of stakeholders with widely varying
needs to gauge their awareness of and participation in conservation
efforts.
VIII. Analysing the Role of Technology in Water Management: Investigate the
role of technology in modern water management. Explore the use of smart
meters, sensors, and data analytics in monitoring and optimizing water
distribution. Conduct surveys involving diverse group of stakeholders with
widely varying needs to gauge public awareness of these technologies and
their willingness to adopt water-saving devices.
IX. Investigating the Impact of Industrial Practices on Water Quality: Study the
influence of industrial activities on the quality of water sources in a
particular area. analyse potential pollutants and their effects on water
quality. Conduct surveys with both industry representatives and local
residents to understand concerns, regulatory compliance, and suggestions
for mitigating water pollution.
X. Analysing Water Scarcity and Access: Examine water scarcity and access
challenges in selected location. analyse the factors contributing to water
shortages and assess the socio-economic impact. Conduct surveys with local
communities to gain insights into their daily struggles and their perspectives
on potential solutions.
XI. Assessing the Public Perception of Water Pricing: Investigate the public
perception of water pricing policies and their impact on water
consumption. analyse the cost structures and pricing mechanisms used by
water providers. Conduct surveys to understand how consumers perceive
water pricing, its fairness, and its influence on their water usage habits.

XII. Analysing the Ecosystem Impact of Dam Construction: Study the
environmental and ecological impacts of dam construction projects in a
specific region. analyse the effect on aquatic ecosystems, river flow, and
biodiversity. Conduct surveys with environmental organizations, local
communities, and relevant authorities to assess concerns, benefits, and
conservation efforts.
