Some people think that zoos are cruel and all the zoos should be closed.
However, other people think that zoos are useful to protect rare animals. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
IN RECENT YEARS, IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES, IN THE MODERN ERA, THERE HAS
BEEN SOME heated debate over the benefits and drawbacks of capturing and holding wildlife has been ongoing for years. On the one hand, some deem that restricting an- imals' freedom in zoos is extremely cruel , while others believe that such places pro- vide a safe environment for protecting endangered species. In this essay I will explore both arguments in more detail, before expressing my advocacy for the latter group’s point of view.
Proponents of closing the zoo argue that the environment in zoos is vastly different from natural habitats. To elaborate further, wild animals are prone to anxiety, stress, and other psychological issues in confined spaces. However, I find it impossi- ble to stand by this viewpoint as zoos can provide proper care to prevent them from hunting or habitat destruction in the wild. Take Taipei Zoo for example, they provide specific areas for different species, such as temperate zone animal area, desert animal area and tropical rainforest area. They can meet the physiologi- cal needs of different animals.
ACTIVITIES STIMULATION
Conversely, those who advocate zoos CLAIM THAT THEY help TO maintain ecological diversity and protect rare species from extinction. In contemporary times, scientists and biologists in the zoos have already CONDUCTED VARIOUS METHODS TO ASSIST to treat and help animals. I strongly advocate this viewpoint, because many zoos par- ticipate in species conservation programs for animal breeding and returning. A 2024 study undertaken in China had proven that the zoo successfully increased the amount of pandas BY a RATE of 17% over the course of just one year . (ELABORATE MORE!)
In conclusion, while some zoos have poor conditions, animals may suffer abuse or lack proper care, I believe these are rare cases. I fully support the idea that zoos can provide enough care for animals and preserve them from extinction.
