1.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this lab session, student should be able to :


1. Assemble series circuit correctly and measure electrical quantities for DC circuits.
2. and paralell and series circuit correctly and measure electrical quantities for DC
circuits.

2.0 EQUIPMENT/COMPONENT

1. Digital Multimeter
2. DC Power Supply
3. Breadboard
4. Jumper wire
5. Resistor 4.7kΩ, 100Ω, 220Ω, 330Ω, 470Ω, 1kΩ, 2.2kΩ, 820Ω

3.0 SYNOPSIS & THEORY

When two resistors are connected in series, the total resistances are:

When these resistors are connected in series with a voltage source, the current in the circuit
is given as:

I = (E / RT)

When two resistors are connected in parallel, the total resistance is:

The following rules apply to all circuits.

The same current occurs through all series elements.

The same voltage appears across all parallel elements.

The total current I delivered by the emf branches through the individual resistors such that it
equals the sum of the individual currents (Charge Conservation Principle):
I = Ir1 + Ir2 + ... + In.

4.0 PROCEDURE

A. Pre-Lab

1. By referring to the circuit diagram in Figure 1, calculate the current I and voltage V
across all the resistors.
2. Record your calculated result in Table 1.

B. Circuit Construction

1. Construct the circuit in Figure 1 and measure the value of current I and voltage V
across all the resistors.
2. Record the reading in Table 1.
3. Repeat step 1 for circuit Figure 2.
4. Record the reading in Table 2.
