LINEAR
PAIR
ANGLE PAIRS
A linear pair is a pair of
Linear Pair adjacent, supplementary angles
whose non-common sides form
a straight line.

Adjacent means next to each

other and supplementary means
that the measures of the two
angles add up to 180 degrees.
EXAMPLES OF LINEAR PAIR
Adjacent Supplementary Angles
POINTS TO REMEMBER ABOUT LINEAR PAIR:

● It is a pair of 2 Adjacent Angles

● The non-common sides are opposite rays

● The sum of the 2 angles will always be 180

degrees

ANSWER THE FF. QUESTIONS:

1. Are ∠2 and ∠3 a linear pair ?

No. The angles are adjacent but their
non-common sides are not opposite rays.

2. Are ∠3 and ∠4 a linear pair ?

Yes. The angles are adjacent and their
non-common sides are opposite rays.

3. Are ∠2 and ∠4 a linear pair ?

No. The angles are not adjacent and
their non-common sides are not
opposite rays.

4. Are ∠1 and ∠2 a linear pair ?

Yes. The angles are adjacent and their
non-common sides are opposite rays.
VERTICAL
ANGLES
ANGLE PAIRS
Vertical Angles – are angles
VERTICAL formed by two intersecting lines.
ANGLES
Vertical angles are not adjacent.
They are located across from one
another on the corners of the “x”
formed by the two-straight lines
Note: Vertical angles
are congruent
Examples of Vertical Angles
CONGRUENT ANGLES
Angles that are equal in measure
Definition of Congruent Angles

Two angles are congruent if and only if their measures are

equal.
In symbols: ∠A ≅ ∠B if and only if m∠A = m∠B
A definition is reversible; hence the definition can be written in
symbols as follows:

m∠A = m∠B if and only if ∠A ≅ ∠B

Find the unknown angles in the following figure.

1) If ∠d = 47o, what is the

measure of the following angles?
∠d = 47o
∠a = 133o
∠b = 47o
∠c= 133o
Refer to the figure to answer the following questions.

2.) What is the relationship exists

between ∠a and ∠b , what kind of
angle pairs are they?
linear pair
Refer to the figure to answer the following questions.

3.) If ∠a = 92o, can you find all

the measures of the angles?
88o Yes, because ∠a and ∠b form a
linear pair.
92o 92o ∠a + ∠b = 180o
92o + b = 180o
88o b = 180o - 92o
b = 88o
Name all vertical angles in the given figure .

The vertical
angles are:

∠1 and ∠4
∠2 and ∠3

∠5 and ∠7
∠6 and ∠8

∠9 and ∠12,
∠10 and ∠13
∠11 and ∠14
