TYPE OF HAZARDS
There are different types of hazards present in workplaces and these are labeled as physical, biological, ergonomic,
chemical, and psychological.
vPhysical hazards are the most common occurrences in workplaces. You can find them easily but often, people are so
used to seeing these hazards that they don’t consider them as hazards anymore.
• Fire
vBiological Hazards may refer to organisms like viruses and bacteria that may be harmful to human health. This
hazard may come from working with animals, people, or infectious materials.
• fungi
With these biological hazards, caregivers may be at risk of contracting infections, skin irritations, allergy, Tuberculosis,
and AIDS.
TYPE OF HAZARDS
vErgonomic hazards are physical factors within the workplace that may harm the muscular and skeletal system of a
caregiver. It is when a caregiver’s nature of work, body position, and working conditions put pressure on his/her
body. Risks when exposed to this hazard could be as simple as a sore muscle or when exposed for a long period of
time as well as musculoskeletal problems.
Daily exposure to ergonomic hazards may risk caregivers of having shoulder pains, back injury, too much impact on
wrist and hands, numbness in some parts of the body, an muscle cramps.

TYPE OF HAZARDS
vChemical hazards are present when a worker is exposed to any chemical preparation in the workplace in any form
(solid, liquid or gas). There may be chemicals which are safe, but some caregivers who are sensitive to solutions
may cause skin irritation, illness or breathing problems.
●paints
●acid
●disinfecting solutions
●flammable materials
When often exposed to these chemical hazards, a caregiver would be at risk of having lung diseases, difficulty in
breathing, and allergic reactions.
Employers of healthcare workers should orient their workers on chemical labels. Being able to read the labels may
prevent possible exposure to dangerous chemical solutions. Let’s try the following quiz to check your understanding of
reading chemical labels

vPsychological Hazards or stressors usually cause stress or strain on a worker. These are usually associated with
workplace issues.
●workload demands
The effects of psychological hazards may lead to depression, anxiety, loss of confidence, loss of concentration at work
and poor performance at work.
Recognizing Hazards and Risks in the Workplace:
Hazards and risks differ from one workplace to another. Hazards will differ depending on where the workplace is
situated and the attitudes of caregivers, clients, or employers. The solution to keep these hazards and risks from
happening is prevention. It is important that a caregiver knows the hazards in his/her workplace and the possible risks
that could eventually happen. How can someone identify the hazards in the workplace? The following are some ways
for a caregiver to determine health and safety problems:
4. A caregiver should examine chart on results of inspections done by the employers or private organizations.
5. A caregiver may use checklists and inspect the workplace. 6. A caregiver may study reports or any other vital
information about the nursing home.

EXERCISING EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN THE
WORKPLACE:
WASTE SEGREGATION IS THE PRACTICE OF SEPARATING DIFFERENT SOLID WASTE MATERIALS TO PROMOTE RECYCLING AND REUSE
OF RESOURCES AND TO REDUCE THE VOLUME OF WASTE FOR COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL. SOURCE SEGREGATION EMPHASIZES
THE IMPORTANCE OF WASTE SEGREGATION AT THE HOUSEHOLD OR WORKPLACE LEVEL.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Conservation is the process of reducing demand on a limited supply and enabling that supply to begin to
rebuild itself. Many times the best way to do this is to replace the energy used with an alternate source. It
is important to practice energy conservation to avoid the depletion of natural resources.
Here are some electricity-saving tips from the Department of Energy:
1. Regularly maintain air-conditioners
2. Turn off the lights when not needed
3. Use LED lights
4. Unplug unused electric appliances
5. Clean your fridge and avoid opening it longer than necessary

IDENTIFYING ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS IN THE WORKPLACE
Entrepreneurial skills and values are qualities that enable problem-solving, critical thinking,
communication, collaboration, and self-management. These skills encompass technical skills and soft
skills which are essential to make you succeed in your workplace. Your job as a caregiver does not
exempt you from experiencing situations that will require these skills. In fact, having these skills will
even help you in the progression of your career path.
• In this lesson, we will learn the important entrepreneurial skills and values that you can apply to
improve yourself in your profession.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN PRACTICE ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS IN WORKPLACE:
1. Identify Opportunities:
• Be observant: Look for problems, inefficiencies, or unmet needs within your team or organization.
• Think outside the box: Challenge the status quo. Ask "why?" and "what if?" to generate new ideas.
• Stay informed: Follow industry trends and learn about emerging technologies that could be applied to your work.
• Research and gather data: Back up your idea with evidence and research.
• Brainstorm solutions: Explore different approaches and consider the pros and cons of each.
HERE HOW YOU CAN PRACTICE ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS IN WORKPLACE:
• Create a compelling pitch: Articulate the value proposition of your idea and demonstrate how it will benefit your
organization.
• Project potential outcomes: Outline the expected impact, including cost savings, increased efficiency, or revenue
generation.
• Identify resources: Assess the necessary resources (time, budget, personnel, etc.) to implement your idea.
• Share your idea with colleagues and mentors: Get their perspectives and suggestions.
• Present your proposal to management: Gain buy-in and secure the necessary resources.
• Be open to constructive criticism: Use feedback to refine your idea and improve its feasibility.
HERE HOW YOU CAN PRACTICE ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS IN WORKPLACE:
5. Take Action:
• Measure and analyze results: Track the impact of your initiative and adjust your approach as needed.
• Iterate and improve: Continuously refine your idea based on feedback and results.
• Encourage collaboration: Work with colleagues to develop and implement your ideas.
• Share your successes: Celebrate wins and inspire others to embrace innovation.
• Promote a learning mindset: Encourage experimentation and a willingness to take calculated risks.
APPLYING AND COMMUNICATING ENTREPRENEURIAL WORKPLACE BEST PRACTICES
The Following are some entrepreneurial workplace practices that you can apply and communicate in order
to foster innovation and improve your standards of living.
• Optimize your schedule based on the needs of your task. Establish a routine, manage your schedule well, and make
sure to still get some rest in.
• Maximize your productivity by evaluating how many tasks you can perform each day. Committing yourself to too
much work is counterproductive and can only slow you down. You may follow the 80/20 rule where you focus your
energy on the 20% of your efforts that produce 80% of the results.
• Play to your strengths and weaknesses. Be self-ware of what you can do and what you still need to improve o n.
• Don't hesitate to take risk and be creative. Thereis no rewards if there is no risk. Know your service well so you can
determine where to make creative decisions and take calculated risk.
APPLYING AND COMMUNICATING ENTREPRENEURIAL WORKPLACE BEST PRACTICES
• Use your personality as a leverage, regardless of you are an introvert or extrovert because both personality types have
their own enterpreneurial strengths.
• Foster strong relationship with past, current and potential clients, stakeholder, employers and colleagues. Aside from
providing a healthy and efficient workplace environment, this also allows promotion of your services which could
make it grow further.
• Embrace both success and failures, the only real failure you will ever encounter when recovering from a setback is
when you stop trying. Know that not all risks taken will yield desirable results. Learn how to adapt and overcome
those temporary obstacles.
Another way of applying entrepreneurial best practices in the workplace is demonstrating cost consciousness in
resource utilization. Being cost conscious means that you are aware of the cost of different products and services, and
you do not want to have unnecessary expenses. When you are working in the health industry, you must remember that
health interventions do not come for free, that clients' and patients' money can run out, and that there is always a
limitation to the health programs's budget. This is why it is important to be cost conscious as a caregiver.
