Advan/disadv of the UI’s

Command line interface (CLI)


Advantages
This type of interface needs much less memory (RAM) in order to use, it can be a lot faster and
efficient compared to other type of UI’s. With CLI, you are in direct communication with the
computer.

Disadvantages
You wil have to learn and memorize a lot of commands to perform basic operations.It’s slow in
use, having to type in everytime an operation is needed to carry out and commands have to
be typed precisely. If there is a spelling mistake then the command will not respond or fail.
Graphical user interface (GUI)
Advantages
GUI is user friendly and easy to understand. It is basic and has visually appealling designs, making
it better for non-proffetionals or begginers at computers.

Disadvantages
GUI’s need a relatively high amount of storage space in the system, they use a lot of memory and
processing power . It can be slower to use than a command-line interface if you are an expert user.
GUI becomes more complex if user needs to communicate with the computer directly.

Gesture-based interface
Advantages
Gesture based interfaces allow human computer interaction to be in a natural and intuitive
manner. Using this method the user can interact with the application from a distance without any
physical interaction with the keyboard or mouse.

Disadvantages
Gestural user experiences require more processing power than necessary, information might
get distorted. It is not precise and sometimes data disruptions may occur. Making long
explanations or conversations through gesture is hard or even impossible.

Dialougue-based interface
Advantages
Allows hands free control - useful to ensure safety when driving for example.It is also Useful for physically
disabled users.It provides the opprotunity to do multi-tasking and can be used as a security feature.
Disadvantages
It is one of the interfaces which is expensive to develop. Is complex to setup and user should know
which commands can be used. The interface may not operate reliably if there is background noise or
if the user has a cold, or a change of voice; still unreliable.
