Quarter: 1 Unit: 1 Week: 6

Transfer Goals:
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to:
foster understanding, empathy, and unity among all individuals, promoting a sense of
interconnectedness and harmony within human interactions and proclaiming God’s message in the
wider community.

Essential Understanding:
Communication, in any form, serves a distinct purpose, whether it's to regulate, interact
socially, motivate, express emotions, or disseminate information. Understanding these
functions enables us to better comprehend various types of oral texts.

Essential Questions:
● How do the functions of communication—such as regulation, social interaction,
motivation, emotional expression, and information dissemination—affect the way we
understand oral texts?
● How does recognizing the intention behind a message influence how we respond to it?
I. Preliminaries
Review:
How does understanding cultural differences impact effective communication in diverse
settings?

Focus: Functions of Communication

Vocabulary (unlocking of difficulties)

● Function - The specific purpose or role that something serves in a particular context or
system.
● Communication -The act of sharing information, thoughts, or feelings between people
through speaking, writing, or other methods.
● Regulation or Control - Communication functions to control behavior. Every organization
has its regulations and these regulations are communicated to all members in various
Page 1 of 4
ways.
● Social Interaction – Communication allows individuals to interact with others. Because of
the needs to interact daily, people communicate.
● Motivation – Communication motivates or encourages people to live better. Motivation is
either internal or external.
● Emotional Expression – Communication facilitates people's expression of their feelings
and emotions.
● Information Dissemination – Communication functions to convey information.
Motivation:
BINI-SAYA
- The students will be divided into 8 groups, each named after a member of BINI (an eight-
member Filipino girl group). When the teacher calls a group, all members will stand, and the
last student to stand will answer the teacher’s question. Similarly, when the teacher says
“BINISAYA!” all students must stand, and the last one to stand will answer the teacher’s
question.

Activating Prior Knowledge:

Can you recall a recent conversation where you had a specific purpose, such as to inform,
persuade, or express emotions? What was the purpose, and how did it influence the way you
communicated?
II.Lesson Development
A. Presentation of Concepts

● Students will understand the different functions of communication (regulation, social

interaction, motivation, emotional expression, and information dissemination) by analyzing
real-world examples.
● Students will be able to apply the functions of communication by crafting a conversation or
dialogue that demonstrates how different functions are used in various situations.

Activities:
a. Last To Stand – The students will be called to stand quickly when their group is mentioned,
last student to stand will answer the Teacher’s question.
b. Tableau – The students will be divided into 5 groups, each assigned a different function of
communication. They will present in front of the class, demonstrating their assigned function
through a creative tableau.
c. Quiz – The students will answer a five-item identification quiz about the topic.

B. Broadening of Concept

● How do the different functions of communication shape the way we convey and interpret
messages?
● How can recognizing these functions enhance our ability to navigate various communication
settings and overcome barriers?
● Can you recall a moment when identifying the purpose behind a message helped you
respond more effectively? What role did the function of communication play in that success?
● How does understanding the functions of communication help us address
misunderstandings and improve the clarity of our interactions?

In our busy lives, communication is a constant, whether we’re talking in person, on the
phone, or through email. No matter how we communicate, we always have a purpose. The
different functions of communication, like social interaction, are key to how we connect
with others.
In what ways do these functions influence our ability to connect and engage with others in
various social settings?
c) Lesson Across Discipline

How do the functions of communication enhance the understanding of themes and

character interactions?
d) Faith/Biblical Reflection
Ephesians 4:29

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for
building others up according to their needs.”

III. Evaluation / Assessment

Group Activity: Tableau. The class will be divided into 5 groups, each assigned a specific
function of communication: regulation, motivation, social interaction, emotional expression, or
information dissemination. Each group will have 5 minutes to prepare a tableau that
represents their assigned function. They will then perform their tableau in 10 seconds,
followed by a brief presentation explaining their work.

 Creativity: 15%
 Explanation: 10%
 Collaboration: 10%
