• Idea
• Determine what is new, useful, non-obvious about your idea
• Does it fall into an “non-patentable” category?
• Are there any public disclosures?
• Limits ability to file for protection in certain countries; may even prevent filing in
general
• Draft & File Patent Application
• Engage in dialogue with the Examiner (through Office Actions and
Examiner Interviews)
• If all goes well, claim(s) will be allowed and issued into a patent

• Look carefully…do not submit a patent application
• Find an issued US Patent, issued after year 2010

• Determine the type of patent:


• Process, composition, apparatus, method , product, article, etc.

• Submit (TA Eric will send instructions) as PDF file named
