Assignment #1

Q.1:
For the circuit network given below, the power absorbed by the 7Ω resistance
is 252 Watts. Find out the value of source voltageVS and value of current IS,
IBand IA. [Marks:10]

Solution
Given that

P = 252W

R = 7Ω

As we know that

P = I 2R
P
I=
2
R

252
I= Amps
2
7

I = 36 Amps
2

I = √ 36 Amps

I = 6 Amps
This current is same as current source I s So,
I s = 6 Amps

From Ohm’s law

V= IR
V s = (6*7) V

V s = 42V

Finally if there are other arrangements in a circuit, the currents I a and I bare equal to
6 Amps. Because in series circuit the current is constant which means that current
is equal on all points. Therefore,

I= I s= I a= I b=6 Amps

Q.2:
Identify and label each node and using the Nodal analysis, find out Voltage
valueat each node and Current I0for 6KΩ in circuit given below.[Marks:10]

Solution
In the below figure, V1 is the voltage from node 1 with respect to ground and V2 is
the voltage from node 2 with respect to ground.

The nodal equation at node 1 is

V 1−12 V 1 V 1−V 2
+ + =0
12 4 6
V 1−¿ 2V
V 1−12+3 V 1 +2 2
¿=0
12

6V 1−2V 2−12 = 0

2(3V 1−V 2−6) = 0

3V 1−6 = V 2
V 2 = 3V 1−6 [1]

The nodal equation at node 2 is

V 2 V 2−V 1
0.002 + + =0
12 6

0.024+V 2 +2 V 2−2 V 1
=0
12

0.024+3V 2−2V 1 = 0

3V 2= 2V 1−0.024 [2]

Substitute Equation 1 in Equation 2.

3(3V 1-6) = 2V 1−0.024

9V 1−18 = 2V 1−0.024

9V 1−2V 1 = 18−0.024

7V 1 = 17.976
V 1 = 2.568V

Substitute V1 = 2.568 V in Equation1.

V 2= 3(2.568)−6

V 2= 1.704V

As we know that

V= IR
V2
I0 =
R

1.704
I0 = 12

I0 = 0.142 A

I0 = 142mA

Q.3:

Give brief answers:

a) Two resistances of value 4Ω and 6Ω are connected in series of 10V battery

source. Draw its circuit diagram and find Power dissipated across 6Ω.

Solution
Given

V = 10V

R = 6Ω
V2
P= R

2
10
P=
6

100
P= 6

P = 16.7W

b) Is it possible that current does not flow through a circuit even if circuit is
closed?
Answer
No, it is not possible because in a closed circuit number of incoming voltages are
equal to the number of outgoing voltages . Current can only flow in closed circuit.
