• Introduction
Welcome to our solar world, a futuristic world powered entirely by the limitless
energy of the Sun. As the world shift towards a more sustainable and
environmentally conscious future, our project explores the possibilities of a city
that utilizes the power of solar energy for its growth and development. Our
project aims to show the potential of solar energy to transform urban living, our
reliance on fossil fuels, and create a cleaner greener future for the next
generations. In this model we are trying to control air pollution and promote
renewable energy sources such as solar energy. We have built working solar cars,
solar agricultural systems, buildings powered by solar energy, traffic lights, street
lights and a lighthouse powered by solar energy.
• Working Principle:-
All the solar powered systems in this model works on the “Photovoltaic effect”.
This principle states the conversion of solar energy into voltage and electric
current which happens due to the PV cells present within the solar panel. When
the sun shines into a solar panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the PV
cells in the panel. This energy creates electrical charges that move in response to
an internal electrical field in this cell, causing electricity to flow.
• How will it work:-
Solar panels are made up of many cells known as solar cells or photovoltaic cells,
usually composed of silicon, is an electronic device that directly converts the
energy of light into electricity through the photovoltaic effect. When sunlight hits
these cells, it is absorbed by the semiconductor material (silicon). This sunlight
consists of particles called photons.
The absorbed photons energize the electrons in the silicon atoms, causing them to
become free and move around. This process is known as the photovoltaic effect.
Essentially, the energy from the photons knocks electrons loose from their atoms,
creating a flow of electricity.
3. Creation of Electric Field
Solar cells are designed with a positive and a negative layer to create an electric
field. This field forces the free electrons to move in a specific direction, creating a
current. This movement of electrons is what generates direct current (DC)
electricity. This electricity is then used to power various applications.
4. Energy storage:-
Excess energy generated by solar panels is stored in batteries.
Stored energy is used when sunlight is not available.
The solar car works by using solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity which
is stored in the batteries and used to power electric motor that drives the car.
The solar panels in the solar powered street lights and lighthouse charge a battery
during the day. The included LDR detects the ambient light level. When it gets
dark, the LDR signals the system to turn on the light.
The solar powered traffic light uses solar energy to operate traffic signals. The
solar panels in the traffic light collect sunlight and converted into electrical energy
which can be stored in a battery. The traffic light system uses the stored energy to
power the traffic signals.
Solar powered irrigation systems use solar energy to pump water for agriculture
purposes. The solar panels generate electricity from sunlight and use it to power a
DC water pump. The pump draws water from a source (like well), and delivers it to
the fields.
Solar powered buildings use solar energy to meet its electrical and thermal needs.
Notice how the panels are installed alongside the buildings, So that the
soundwaves coming from the streets are blocked and reflected back to the roads
by the solar panels, thus acting as a noise cancellation barrier for the residents of
the building. The Solar panels also capture sunlight and converts it into current
which is then supplied to the buildings for use. The systems also include battery to
store excess energy for use at night.
Utility:-
Eco-friendly Transportation: By using solar cars, we help in reducing reliance on
fossil fuels, which in turn lowers greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. This
contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment.
Reliable and Renewable source of energy: Our Solar world provides a sustainable
and renewable source of energy. Unlike fossil fuels, solar energy is abundant and
inexhaustible, making it a reliable source of energy for the future.
Disaster Relief and Recovery: Solar-powered solutions can be crucial during and
after natural disasters. They can provide reliable energy for emergency services,
shelters, and communication systems.
Conclusion: The innovative technologies in the solar world make it a valuable
resource for various applications, contributing to a sustainable and renewable
energy future.
• Effect on society:-
This model if brought to life, can have a significant effect on society. It can:-
reduce carbon emissions by 85-90% (36.455 to 38.27 billion tonnes (Gt)
CO2e annually)
Reduce global warming.
decrease fossil fuel dependency,
reduce human labour.
Provide a reliable energy supply (as it is available during daytime and can
be stored in batteries for use at night).
It also has a cooling effect as it absorbs the sunlight and makes this
surroundings comfortable. And has certain economic benefits as it is a
renewable source of energy.
