General Chemistry Lab Rules and Regulations
Dear students welcome to the General Chemistry Laboratory. During this semester each
student will do 6 experiments as part of the course requirement. The following rules and
regulations will be followed by the students in the general chemistry laboratory.
1. The safety of our students in the General Chemistry Lab is very important . Your
clothes should cover your entire body. In the labs open-toe shoes, sandals, babets,
skirts, shorts are not allowed(The skin between the top of the shoe and the bottom of
the pant leg must be fully covered by clothing). If you come to lab by wearing these
you will not be allowed to enter the laboratory. You will get '0' and you do not have a
chance to make-up the experiment.
2. If you get zero from 2 experiments, you will fail both from the lab and the
course.
3. If your lab grade is lower 30 over 60 you must retake course and the lab.
4. You should come to the lab on time. Lab sections start at 9.00, 11.40 or
14.40. The schedule of Lab sections are posted on ODTUCLASS and at different
locations in the Chemistry Department.

lab. You must wear your goggles and lab coats in a proper way when you are
in the lab.
8. Please turn off your mobile phone and put it away while you are in the lab,
you cannot use it instead of calculator, bring your calculator to do the calculations.
9. A lab quiz will be given during each lab period. For the first experiment, you
will take the quiz at the end of the experiment. However, for the following lab
periods, the quiz will be given at the beginning of the lab from the contents of the
experiment you will do and from the safety rules.
10. During lab section you will use some chemicals. These chemicals are placed
on nearby benches on the sides of the lab. Do not bring them to your bench.
11. At the end of the lab section you may have some chemical waste. Don't dispose
your waste to the sink, put them into proper waste containers. These
containers are placed at the backside of the lab in hoods.

under the bench to keep your personal things.
13. Keep your working area clean- immediately clean up spills or broken glass.
After you finish your experiment you have to clean your glassware and bench.
14. The titles of the experiments are given in front pages of your lab manuals and
experiment dates are announced on the boards. Please, learn the title of the next
experiment before leaving the laboratory.
15. When you finish the experiment you will write a lab report. After the first
experiment, the assistant will explain how to write the lab report. You will write the
other reports yourself and submit it to the boxes on which your section is written.
Those boxes are at the entrance of the laboratory.
17. If you miss a lab experiment, please visit the lab coordinator on office hours as
soon as possible. You have to submit your medical report in 5 days, if you have. You
