Quick Start
The following procedure is intended to present the basic steps to get started with HorizonQA. It refers
to the Demo application provided with every HorizonQA software installation. The same steps could
apply to any other application although they do not cover the full list of settings configurable through
the HorizonQA Configuration Wizard and all operations available through the HorizonQA Workplace.
1 In HorizonQA—Workplace (see Figure 5)
Add a user with supervisor security level:
a Start the Workplace and login with:
User Name: enabliradmin
Password: Enablir2944]
b Select Administration > User Manager.
c Click Add… The User Properties dialog box is displayed.
—
Figure 6 User Propertied dialog box
d Enter user information (making sure that you select the Supervisor security level) and click OK.
Note: For normal operation, repeat the same procedure to create Analyst and Operator security
levels.
2 In HorizonQA—Configuration Wizard (see Figure 5)
Import the demo application into the database:
a Start the Configuration Wizard and login as supervisor.
b Import the file Demo.horizonqa located under C:\ABB\AnalyzerSoftware\Configuration\.
—
Figure 7 Importing the file
c In the Analyzer tab, set the analyzer name.
Note: This is by default the MAC address in the following format: MAC_??_??_??_??_??_??.
If the analyzer name was changed, use the ABB FTIR applet in the Control Panel.
d Select Exit, click Yes to save, and activate the demo application.

Validating Installation
The following procedure presents the steps to perform a basic validation. This validation includes 5
tests deemed essential to assess the performances of an analyzer. This validation procedure is referred
to in the standard Operation Qualification Guidelines.
Finding the Proper Gain
Even before beginning the validation process, the critical value to know is the proper gain to use. This gain
is assessed using the PLCATS (PL4.bat) software located in C:\Program Files (x86)\ABB Bomem\PL4\.
—
Figure 10 PL4 software
To find the proper gain for your validation:
1 Upon launching PL4, in the dialog box that is displayed, leave the Connect to spectrometer option
enabled and click OK.
2 Select your instrument and click OK.
3 In the main PLCATS window, under the Diagnostic tab, adjust the 1st Gain field value so as to obtain
a PEAK % value as close to 80% as possible without PEAK % turning red.
NOTICE
When using an accessory with the analyzer, make sure that the appropriate reference
standard is installed on the accessory when required.
4 Once this value is obtained, note that 1st gain value.
5 Close PLCATS by clicking on the X in the top right corner.
Creating a Validation Configuration
NOTICE
A validation configuration for all instruments configuration is needed, including an
OpenBeam validation (without accessory). The latter shall be performed first to validate
the instrument.
To create a validation configuration:
1 In HorizonQA, access the Validation tab inside an application by:
– Importing an existing application,
– Creating a new application, or
– Editing an application already saved to the database.
2 Click New. A dialog box is displayed (see Figure 11)
3 Select the appropriate detector from the Detector drop down list.
4 Select the appropriate accessory from the Accessory drop down list.
5 Select an appropriate expiration behavior from the Expiration Behavior drop down list:
– Prevent Procedure: Procedure execution is not allowed. A message is displayed.
– Display warning: Procedure can be executed despite expired validation. User is warned upon
executing a procedure.
– Do Nothing: Procedure can be executed despite expired validation. No expiration warning is
displayed.

6 In the DetectorGain drop down menu, select the gain value noted in “Finding the Proper Gain” on
page 9.
7 Browse for the appropriate template file based on the instrument configuration to be validated.
Each template filename includes the instrument type, the detector type and the accessory.
OpenBeam refers to no accessory.
8 Once the template file that you chose is loaded, a list of the tests included and their content can
be reviewed in the Validation Tests Information section.
9 Click OK to save and exit and activate this new application.

Creating a Validation Configuration 11
10 In HorizonQA Workplace, load this newly saved application:
a Start the Workplace and login with an Analyst or higher user type.
b Select the Administration tab and re-initialize the application.
Upon re-logging with an Operator, Analyst or Supervisor user type, all procedures will be available
for execution.

11 To perform the validation, follow the next procedure.
Validating Spectrometer Performance
NOTICE
Before validating spectrometer performance, make sure that the instrument will not
be subjected to vibrations and shocks during the validation, and make sure that the
instrument has been started at least 4 hours prior to the validation (if the instrument is
not warm enough, validation might fail).
To validate the performance of the spectrometer:
1 In HorizonQA, go to the Validation tab.
—
Figure 14 Validation tab
2 Select the type of validation to be performed in the Type list to the right (Basic is default)
3 Prepare the system as follows:
– For OpenBeam Validation: Remove any accessory from the sample compartment. The IR beam
path must be clear.
– For Accessory Validation: Install the accessory in the sample compartment.
4 Double-click on the appropriate configuration to start the validation sequence. A dialog box appears.
5 In Comment, insert any appropriate descriptive comment, if necessary, and click OK.
6 A message box will be displayed to remind you of mandatory preparation steps. Click OK.
From this point, the validation will proceed until the validation report is generated and displayed.
12 Commissioning Guide
7 Once the validation results summary is displayed, choose one of the following actions:
– Browse the results for details on the validation tests.
– Click Preview to view an automatically generated PDF report.
– Click Exit to return to the Validation tab.
Note: Validation reports are either available on disk or in the History sub-tab under the Validation tab.
8 If the validation status is FAILED, repeat the test after making sure that the NOTICE above and all
points in step 2 were verified.
9 If, after repeating the test once, the validation status is still FAILED, contact your local ABB service
representative.
