1. System Overview
RCS M/E remote control device apply to controlling the steering with a
single fixed propeller / medium-speed diesel engine and smooth gearbox down.
Control staff can control the speed governing of main engine and together row,
row off, commutation of gear box at BCR and central control room and next to
the engine.
The product is essential to achieve automatic control of engine room
installations, designing and manufacturing is from Shanghai Raye Marine
Electronics Co., Ltd, and which is satisfied the requirements of major
classification society.

2. Main Function
1. RCS M/E remote control device with CAN-bus design, modular structure;
2. RCS M/E remote control device with electric ship integrated design, BCR
unit and the central control room units generally use the computer remote
control, with control, reflecting the time and so on; engine side commonly
used pneumatic remote control, it has stable and reliable characteristics;
using electrical combination of design, not only ensure the reliability
of air control, but also avoid the inconvenience from BCR, central control
room to BCR in layout of the trachea way.
3. In addition, by main engine and gear box with the emergency control handle,
in case of remote control device failure, can be realized for the main
engine response speed and the gear box for the operation.
4. RCS remote control unit and the central control room remote control unit
is used by single remote control handle, match up the computer programmed
control module, remote control staff can directly control the speed of main
engine and the arrangement, removing rows, reversing of gear box. Computer
control is not due to the rapid operation of staff to change the main engine
and control the heat load of gear changes, the maximum protection of main
engine and gear box.
5. Microcomputer control parameters can make adjustments at e according to
actual shipping status.
6. RCS remote control unit and the central control room remote control unit
use closed loop control, it means compare with the command control signal
of the staff and the main engine shaft stern of the actual speed feedback
signal, if the speed deviation beyond the allowable range, the remote
control automatically adjusts the input of main engine speed, until the
deviation in the permitted range, the control mode of speed and high
precision, dual synchronous good effect.
7. RCS remote control unit and the central control room remote control unit
with the maximum speed limit, the maximum limit to the amount of oil, speed
rate control, to avoid the critical speed automatic features such as; In
addition, a M/E failure deceleration, trouble parking, security, parking,
etc. automatic protection.

8. Remote control devices are in BCR, ECC room, machine-side signaling &
liaison panel, the main show M/E speed, shaft speed, the telegraph
transmitter, the actual control position of the status, the M/E & gear box
important alarm point.

control device, the M/E speed and the gear box could be kept within the
specified time;

4. Component Descriptions

4.1 M/E Remote Control Operation Panel

Remote control panel is generally installed in the console face, embedded


installation using CAN bus connection means and Remote control device; mainly
used for remote control of the process control and the main data set, is one
of the core components of remote control device.
Remote control panel with Texas Instruments 32-bit high-speed digital
processor (DSP), has reflected the rapid, stable and reliable features,
advanced control officer may, through the control panel to set remote control
device control parameters, such as: speed settings, throttle settings, time
settings, etc.; parameters of the modified hard-line route through the back
panel lock to prevent misuse;
Remote control panel with the following display:
1) M/E the actual speed display;
2) The actual working conditions of gearbox: AHEAD-IDEL-ASTERN
3) Remote control handles output status: AHEAD-IDEL-ASTERN
4) Remote control device control position display: Bridge control & E
Control;
5) Remote control real-time control of the status: acceleration,
deceleration;
6) associated with the remote M/E system, gear box alarm point: power fault;
air fault; fault slow down, fault shut down; over speed; wrong way & other;

4.2 Remote Control Main Control Box

Remote control box is installed in ECR, wall mounting, with Remote control
device with CAN bus connection means; mainly used for remote control signal
input and control signal output, remote control device is one of the core
components.
Includes the following modules:
1) Switch Input Module
2) Speed Input Module
3) Relay output module
4) The main control module
Switch input module of collecting M/E safety protection device shut down,
gearbox meshing status of the important points of the M/E alarm signal, remote
control alarm signal itself, the control position switch signal, status, and
signal bell, as a remote control device of the input signal to judge ;
Acquisition speed input module of the M/E and the propeller speed signal
pulse as a remote control device to judge the input signal
Relay output module of the meshing gear box output control signal, the M/E
operating signals, alarm signals;
The main control module’ s signal is collected from remote control handle
position signal, as well as the output module, output of the M/E analog speed
signal, speed signal for the control of the M/E. Also save the remote control
device control parameters and control procedures;

4.3 Remote Control Handle

Remote control handle means is remoter control handle and transmitter


telegraph.
Remoter control handle and transmitter telegraph is usually installed in
BCC, with clear sense of the variable speed gear form, the main function is to
control personnel under the operational instructions given M/E speed potentiometer
gear meshing signal and command signal for the remote control box to judge based
on the input.
Remoter control handle and transmitter telegraph engraved with nine stalls
instruction: empty (IDLE), are vehicles DEAD SLOW, SLOW, HALF, and FULL,
reversing the DEAD SLOW, SLOW, HALF and FULL. The file command to set the speed
value can be set by remote control panel or modify respectively, between each
stall speed instruction is continuous change.

4.4 Main Telegraph Alarm Panel

Main telegraph alarm panel is generally installed in BCC, ECC, ER station;


each the main telegraph alarm panel is connected by CAN bus systems in ways,
mainly used to display remote control device’ s control status and the
Main telegraph alarm panel with the following location telegraph

4.5 机旁控制箱 E Control Box

E control box installed in the control side M/E BCR in near the wall
installation, including remote display panel, E CONTROL / Remote control
position change-over switch, gear box the AHEAD-IDLE-ASTERN (or switch),
pressure switch, etc. normal equipment;
The other ship under the real difference may also be installed in the tail
shaft tachometer; M/E tachometer and engine room monitoring alarm panels
optional equipment.
E control box's protection level: IP44 standards.

4.6 测速单元 Speed Measuring Unit

Speed measuring unit installed between M/E with shaft stern, used to measure
the M/E speed and shaft speed. See the figure below:
1) M/E speed measuring box: The internal installation of two magnetic pulse
sensor, close to the main gear on the flywheel side peak of about 2mm to install
a fixed, fixed-speed box with the bracket by the shipyard welding;
2) Shaft speed measuring box: The internal installation two magnetic pulse
sensors, close to the tail shaft speed gear tooth disc to install a fixed peak
of about 2mm;
3) The shaft speed gear set: fixed output shaft in the gearbox tail shaft
Department, together with the tail shaft rotation, manufacturers must provide
the shaft before installing Office of shaft, fixed speed box with the bracket
by the shipyard welding;

4.7 Servo Motor Regulator

Servo motor is installed on the Main Engine and servo motor’ s speed control
rod is connected to the engine’ s governor rod .When the servo motor rotate,
it drives engine’ s governor rod to rotate adn to control the size of the engine
injection quantity.

4.8 M/E Power Supply Unit

In the engine room control room set Power supply units, with AC220V and
DC24V double way power supply, auto change switch mode without disturbances.
The other is equipped with AC220V UPS to satisfy the system 30 minutes after
loss power;

4.9 M/E & The Gear Box With The Conditions

4.9.1 主机 M/E

1) The M/E must provide the location of Servo Motor, and it can be connected
to the governor rod of engine.
2) The M/E must provide the location of speed sensor installation can be
installed on the flywheel side or the M/E reserved the mounting holes,
hole’ s diameter standard: M18 × 1 or M22 × 1.

4.9.2 Gear Box

1) The gear box change to the control valves are required to have car
parking and parking three control outlet, when the reversing control
population without pressure from the air supply pressure control are empty,
while missing three tone source air, the valve position change (turning
the propeller remained unchanged).
2) If the Elec. control gear box change to the way, to be equipped with
are cars, electric control reversing valve each one, power off the same
valve position (propeller turning unchanged).
3) The gear box needs to be installed is of vehicles, oil pressure switch,
back working oil pressure switch, remote control in order to ensure the
reliability of the proposed gear box manufacturers to provide the pressure
indicator of imported components.

6. Explanation Of Symbols

6.1 M/E Remote Control Operation Panel

6.1.1

System silencer button


When system have alarm, press this button the sound of alarm will
be eliminated, and press again, the alarm lamp will stop flash;

6.1.2 The Status Indicator of Gear Box

Used to indicate the actual working conditions of gear


box; when the remote control handle’s control commands
signal is changed, the corresponding indication lamp
flash, until receive the actual feedback signal, the lamp
stop flash;

1、BCR / ECR/ E/S Push Indicaton Lamp


(1)Indication lamp, used to indicate the
actual control position of remote device;
(2)When WHC requests BCR operating, press
BCR button, the three positions’ indication
lamps flash, also give a sound, the Engine
Side makes M/E control position handle to
the position of remote, and E/R’s BCR-ECR control handle turn to BCR, this

indication lamp stop flash, the sound eliminate the actual control position of
remote is BCR;
(3) When WHC requests ECC operating, press ECC button, the three positions’
indication lamps flash, also give a sound, when the ECC receives the
requisition of ECC, the E/R’s BCR-ECR control handle will turn to ECC, this
indication lamp stop flash, the sound eliminate, the actual control
position of remote is ECC;\
(4) When WHC requests E/S operating, press E/S button, the three positions’
indication lamps flash, also give a sound, when the E/S receives the
requisition of E/S, the Engine Side makes M/E control position handle to
the position of E/S, this indication lamp stop flash, the sound eliminate,
the actual control position of remote is E/S;
2、 Standby F.W.E contact button
This operation only can be made by wheel house, when wheel house give a
standby request, the standby indication lamp flash, and the E/S crew answer,
this lamp stop flash, after standby operation finished, the E/S crew press
F.W.E button the F.W.E indication lamp flash, when wheel house answer ,this
indication lamp stop flash.

6.1.4 Fault slowdown

(1)Slowdown indicator:
when M/E has fault output, the fault slowdown indicator will flash,
if press slowdown cancel button is cancel slowdown the indicator
stop flash, if not, after a certain time the fault slowdown
indicator stop flash, the M/E run with slowdown.
(2)Slowdown Cancel push button with lamp:
when fault slowdown indicator flash, determined by
operator whether cancel slowdown or not, press
slowdown cancel push button is the function of canceling slowdown,
the slowdown indicator light ,do not cancel by not.
(3)Slowdown Reset push button with lamp:
W hen M/E fault is back to normal, press the slowdown reset button, the function
of fault slowdown is cancel.

6.1.5 Shutdown

( 1 ) Shutdown indicator: when M/E has fault output, the shutdown


indicator will flash, if press shutdown cancel button is cancel
shutdown the indicator stop flash, if not, after a certain time the
shutdown indicator stop flash, the M/E stop.
( 2 ) Shutdown Cancel push button with lamp: when fault shutdown
indicator flash, determined by operator whether cancel shutdown or not,
press shutdown cancel push button is the function of canceling shutdown,
the shutdown indicator light ,do not cancel by not.
(3)Shutdown Reset push button with lamp: when M/E fault is back to
normal, press the shutdown reset button, the function of fault shutdown
is cancel

6.1.6 Limit cancel push button with lamp

Press limit cancel push button, the limit cancel indication lamp light,
implement the funtion of limit cancel. Press again, the indicator go
out, cancel the limit cancel function.
This push button can cancel funtions as follows:
1)Fault slowdown;
2)Maximum throttle limit
3)Accelerate the control rate of remote

6.1.7 Start block indicator

Start block indicator is indicate the remote control device is


unenble state .when the bellow situations is satisfied the remote
control device can be control the engine.

1) In remote state ;
2) ShutDown is not actived;
3) Main engine is running;
4) The remote handle is in the Idle position。

6.1.8 Function selection button

F1: Enter the interface of changing password


F2:Enter the interface of checking communication statues
F3: Enter the interface of checking alarm
F4: Enter the interface of changing parameter

6.1.9 Test push button

When press test push button, all the lamps light, the alarm buzzer
action.

6.1.10 Dimmer Push button

This dimmer button is cycle, each time press dimmer button, the

Used to indicate the actual working conditions of gear box; when the remote control
handle’s control commands signal is changed, the corresponding indication lamp
flash, until receive the actual feedback signal, the lamp stop flash.

(3)When WHC requests ECC operating, press ECC button, the three positions’
indication lamps flash, also give a sound, when the ECC receives the requisition

(4 When WHC requests E/S operating, press E/S button, the three positions’

7.4.1 BCR Remote Control

the Acceleration and deceleration signal to control the servo motor Forward or
reverse . then it will program automatic control purpose;
When the M/E to changes in speed due to load changes, the remote control
device can be adjusted in accordance with the limits set speed to achieve
the speed stability.

7.4.1.2 G/B Clutch Coupled Control

Remote control when the control staff will pull the handle to ahead or astern
from the IDLE position, the remote control panel in accordance with procedures
set the first speed change to allow clutch coupled rotational speed, in set the
time output the clutch coupled signal , via elec. valve to control gear box, and
gradually rise the handle speed requirements.

7.4.1.3 G/B Disengage Clutch Control

Remote control when the control staff will handle from the forward (or back)
pull the empty location, remote control panel in accordance with procedures set
first to allow the M/E to change the speed gradually speed off row, set the time
to stop the output in the co-emission control signal, gear box off row, and
gradually reduced to empty the M/E speed.

7.4.1.4 G/B Control Position Control

When the remote control handle control personnel will moved from the max speed
ahead position to astern, remote control panel in accordance with procedures first
M/E speed gradually changed to allow the speed off after row, in a specified time
for automatic removal row, according to the actual speed of the propeller and other
data, will M/E speed down to allow the co-ranked speed within the set time
automatically combined row, and gradually rose to remotely control the M/E speed
handle the speed requirements. This feature is not due to operation of the M/E
staff quickly pulled lead to dramatic changes in heat load to protect the M/E and
the gear box.

7.4.1.5 Automatic Avoid The Critical Speed

7.4.1.6 M/E The Max Speed Limit

Remote M/E control panel you can set the maximum speed limit value, to protect
the M/E will not overload.

7.4.1.7 M/E Max Fuel Admission Limit

Remote control panel can diesel engine manufacturers to provide the M/E
characteristic curve, set in a different speed limit set under the maximum amount
of oil to protect the M/E is not over torque.

7.4.1.8 M/E Growth Rate Control

Remote Control Panel can be set at different speed settings speed growth rate
under control, protection of the M/E variable load in the overload is not so hot,
in the emergency control (more control), its growth rate accelerated twice.

7.4.1.9 Slow Down

When Remote control device received the slow down signal form safety system ,
the slow down indicator will flash , and if no push ‘ SL.D. CANCEL’ button
within 6 seconds ,the M/E remote device will control the engine speed slow down
to pre-set speed value, and the failure slow alarm signal is given to protect the
engine; when the slow down alarm signal back to normal, push ‘ SL.D. RESET’ button
M/E speed will be automatic back to handle speed lever.

7.4.1.10 Shutdown

Remote device according to the M/E safety system fault shut down to the M/E
output reduced to zero throttle, gear box off row immediately and give alarm signals
trouble parking.
Fault shut down can be divided into more control of navigation need not be more

— Override shut down signal: when M/E safety protection device has

gives trouble parking alarm signal (the function of safety devices
need to M/E support)
— Non override shut down: When the M/E has over speed alarm shut down
signal, safety device immediately to shut down the M/E, while give
remote control device a signal which is a non override controlled
shut down signal,remote control device immediately reduced to zero
output M/E throttle, gear box off distance clutch immediately and
give shut down alarm signals.
After M/E failure shut down, only satisfied the following conditions are
met, the remote control device could be work properly:
* Shut down to eliminate fault
* Remote control handles back on the idle position
* M/E has being re-start and has reached the empty speed

7.4.1.11 Emergency Shutdown

Set EM’ CY shut down push button in the BCC, ECC & E box independently,
when the emergency situation requires immediate shut down, press the button,
remote control devices and M/E safety protection devices are implemented
immediately shut down command.
After M/E emergency stop, only the following conditions are satisfied, the
remote control to work properly:
* Emergency shut down button has been reset;
* Remote control handles back on the idle position;
* The M/E has to re-start and has reached the empty speed;

7.4.1.12 Emergency Control

BCR set emergency push button, when the staff need to control M/E, press
the button, it can relieve some of the protection due to some of the
limitations set by the M/E, such as:
* Remote control, the speed set to make time speed up the growth rate
* Remote control, the oil relative to the speed limit value when compared
with normal control, 5%
* Remote control, cancel fault slowdown function
* Remote control, cancel maximum speed limit

7.4.1.13 Over Speed Shutdown

In the remote status, through the Remote control device installed on the
speed measuring unit of the M/E, when the remote control device to detect
speed above the set value, the remote control to immediately stop command ,
M/E shut down, and issued over speed alarm signal.
After M/E over speed shut down, only the following conditions are met, the
remote control to be worked properly:
* Remote control device on the empty position
* The M/E to re-start and has reached the empty speed

speed of the M/E and the speed gear box needs the engineer judgments.

7.4.4 Emergency Control

When the power of Remote control device is lost, the engine side operator can only hand
servo motor wheel to control the engine speed and manual operate isolenoid valve to control
the engager engage.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Common Failure And Disposal Methods

8.1.1 Remote Control Handle Failure

Primarily as a remote control Remote control device handles the operation


of the command signal input, the main body by the handle, precision
potentiometers, limit switches and other hardware; the hardware through the
A / D conversion, the corresponding handle position signal input to the remote
control panel , its signal must meet the requirements of the computer. In the
use of the process, may be caused because of incorrect operation of the handle
position signal error, the computer will automatically determine the logic
immediately after the alarm in the control panel instructions prompt remote
control handle failure;
If the remote control handle failure, please follow the remote control
parameter table in the corresponding A / D conversion data matching, if we find
error, please adjust the parameters, and save the data; if a hardware failure,
please contact the factory replacement of hardware;
Note: The above parameters changes with the most care in order to avoid
remote control device does not work!

8.1.2 M/E Speed Measuring Fault

In the M/E-side common to install two magnetic flywheel speed sensor for
measuring the M/E speed signal, the remote control signal as a sample value
input to the remote control unit, if the gun fails, it will directly affect
the accuracy of remote control devices. Therefore, redundant probes to two gun
safety measures that can guarantee a speed sensor failure will not cause the
M/E speed out of control.
The measurement M/E speed, two speed input probe pulse are two independent
input channels. When the control unit the measured values of the two input
signals have size to large a signal as the actual speed signal, when the

difference between the two signals is greater than the computer settings, the
control panel immediately issued a gun failure alarm indication.
Speed is the speed sensor fault main break or pulse loss, the reasons for
disconnection due to vibration of the general, or caused by the installation
of screws loose wheel speed sensor encountered were broken, so the need for
regular inspection speed probe, demands probe peak with the flywheel teeth
apart 2 ~ 3mm, to ensure the accuracy of speed.
If the speed sensor is damaged, please change to the E the control mode,
and immediately replace the speed sensor.
In addition, remote control device with a speed / stall protection, when
the M/E speed sensor failure due to sudden loss of speed, the remote control
unit output signal once the M/E throttle down to zero. And immediately issue
audible and visual alarm signals, in order to protect the M/E.
M/E their own general hydraulic governor or Elec. governor with a speed of
protection are, if during operation, regardless of remote control electric or
air in one part of the problem, for both the M/E with hydraulic governor minimum
speed or maximum speed limit protection against the M/E speed is beyond the
scope of operation.

8.1.3 Gearbox Clutch Coupled & Disengage Clutch Fault

M/E remote control device disengage & coupled control and speed control is
estimated by the work of the oil pressure switch provides a feedback signal
to determine the implementation of the output control circuit is working
correctly, if the feedback signal is not correctly feedback, remote control
process will cause the M/E can not speed up or slow down de row, and the control

8.1.4 Computer Failure

8.2 Check Power Supply
