VOCABULARY LIST

1. Quirky (a.): unusual in an attractive and interesting way. 古怪的;獨特的


e.g. Despite her quirky habits, Elena always managed to bring joy to those around
her with her unique sense of humor.

2. Disembodied (a.): seeming not to have a body or not to be connected to a body. 脫離

e.g. A disembodied voice made the atmosphere of the haunted house even more
terrifying.

3. Breakneck (a.): carelessly fast and dangerous. 高速而危險的


e.g. Students are forced to finish their courses at breakneck pace, causing
exhaustion.

4. Realm (n.): an area of interest or activity. (興趣或活動的)界;領域;範圍


e.g. In the realm of imagination, anything is possible, from flying unicorns to talking
trees.

5. Paramount (a.): more important than anything else. 至上的;首要的


e.g. In the business industry, the principle of customer-first is paramount.

6. Staggered (a.): very shocked or surprised. 震驚的;大吃一驚的


e.g. Adam was staggered at his grade when he finally got it.

7. Ubiquitous (a.): seeming to be everywhere. 普遍存在的;似乎無所不在的


e.g. Self-driving cars haven’t become ubiquitous in today's society yet, but it is
possible in the near future.

8. Autonomy (n.): the ability to make your own decisions without being controlled by
anyone else. 自主;自主權
e.g. The university grants its students a considerable degree of autonomy in
arranging their courses and academic paths.

9. Intervention (n.): the action of becoming intentionally involved in a difficult situation, in


order to improve it or prevent it from getting worse. 干預;干涉

e.g. The doctor recommended early intervention for the patient's condition to prevent
it from worsening.

10. Fraction (n.): a small part of something, or a small amount. 極小的部分


e.g. Although it was just a fraction of the total budget, the small donation made a
significant impact on the disaster relief project.

11. Tinker (v.): to make small changes to something, especially in an attempt to repair or
improve it. 修補;改進
e.g. The inventor spent countless hours in his workshop, determined to tinker with his
latest invention until it was perfected.

12. Tackle (v.): to try to deal with something or someone. 對付;處理;與…交涉


e.g. The basketball coach emphasized the importance of teamwork to tackle their
opponents effectively on the field.

13. Gauge (v.): to use a measuring device to calculate an amount, or to make judgment
about something. 測量;計算;判斷
e.g. In the experiment, it is crucial to control the temperature, so we need someone
to gauge the temperature by using a thermometer.

14. Scepticism (n.): an attitude that shows you doubt whether something is true or useful.

e.g. The politician's promises were met with scepticism from the public, since he had
broken his pledge before.

15. Mishap (n.): bad luck, or an unlucky event or accident. 厄運;不幸事故


e.g. The big earthquake which occurred in early April caused a series of mishaps.
