Praises Of Allah
All praise is for Allah who has not taken a son, has no partner in
His dominion and does not need anyone, out of weakness, to protect
Him. … (17:111)
All praise is for Allah who sent down the Book to His servant and did
not place in it any crookedness. (18:1)
All praise is for Allah, to whom belongs all that is in the heavens
and all that is on the earth; and for Him is all praise in the
Hereafter. He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware. (34:1)

All praise is for Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth,
who appoints the angels as messengers having wings, in twos, threes
and fours. He adds to the creation what He wills. Indeed, Allah is
All-Powerful over everything. (35:1)

O Allah, for You Alone is all praise; You are the Light of the
heavens and the earth and whatever is therein. For You Alone is all
praise; You are the Maintainer of the heavens and the earth and
whatever is therein. And for You Alone is all praise; You are the
Truth. Your promise is the truth, Your speech is the truth, the
meeting with You is the truth, Paradise is the truth, Hell-Fire is
the truth, the Final Hour is the truth, the Prophets are the truth
and Muhammad ﷺis the truth. O Allah, I surrender myself to You
Alone, I put my trust in You Alone, I believe in You Alone, I turn to
You Alone, I complain of my opponents to You Alone and I refer
judgement to You Alone.
Ibn Abbas (radiy Allāhū ‘anhumā) narrates: “When the Prophet ﷺwould stand for the
night (tahajjud) prayer, he would say [the above]. (Bukhārī 6317, 7499)
O Allah, for You Alone is all praise. O Allah, none can restrict what
You expand and none can expand what You have restricted. None can
guide whom You have left astray, and none can mislead whom You have
guided. None can give what You withhold, and none can withhold what
You bestow. None can bring near what You have distanced and none can
distance what You have brought near.
Rifā’ah az-Zuraqī (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates: “When it was the day of (the battle of)
Uhud and the polytheists retreated, the Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid: ‘Arrange yourselves (in
rows) so I can praise my Lord.’ So the Companions (radiy Allāhū ‘anhum) stood behind
him in rows. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid [the above].” (Aḥmad 15066)

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens, Lord of the earth, Lord of the
Magnificent Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, Splitter of the
seed and the date stone, the One who revealed the Torah, the Bible
and the Criterion (Qur’ān); I seek Your protection from the evil of
every thing You hold by the forehead (i.e. fully control). You are
the First and there is nothing before You. You are the Last and there

You.
Suhayl reports that Abu Salih would command us: “If one of you intends to go sleep, he
should lie on his right side and say [the above].” Abu Salih would narrate this from Abu
Hurayrah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) who narrated it from the Prophet ﷺ. (Muslim 2713)

All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds, the All Merciful, the
Very Merciful, Master of the Day of Judgement. There is no god worthy
of worship except You, You do what You will. O Allah, You are Allah,
there is no god worthy of worship except You. You are the Rich and
Free of all needs whilst we are poor and in need of You. (Ibn Ḥibbān)
Aisha (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā) narrates: “The people complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
of a drought. So he ﷺordered for a pulpit and it was placed in his place of prayer. He
then arranged a day for all the people to gather. Aisha says (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā): ‘The
Messenger of Allah ﷺcame out when the disk of the sun appeared. He sat on the pulpit
and praised Allah and then said: “You have complained regarding the drought of your
gardens and lack of rain for some time. Verily, Allah has commanded you to ask Him and
promised to answer your prayers, then he said [the above with the addition of] “Send
down rain upon us, and make what you send effective and far-reaching until some time.”
Then he ﷺlifted his arms until we saw the whiteness under his armpit. He then turned his
back towards the people and turned round his upper garment while his hands were
raised. He then turned to the people and descended the pulpit. He performed two units of
Salah. Allah then formed a cloud. There was a clap of thunder and a flash of lightening
and it rained with the permission of Allah. He did not stay inside the Masjid until there were
streams of water running. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺsaw wetness on the peoples
clothes, he smiled until his front teeth became visible. He then said: “I bear witness that
Allah is over all things All-Powerful and I am the servant and Messenger of Allah.” (Ibn
Ḥibbān 991)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid: “Whoever says [the above] when retiring to bed has
praised Allah with all the praises of His entire creation.” (Hākim 2001)

All praise is for Allah who feeds and is not fed. He favoured us, and
thus guided us, blessed us with food and drink, and bestowed upon us
every favour. All praise is for Allah, a praise which we will never
bid farewell to, a never-ending praise, an accepted praise and an
indispensable praise. All praise is for Allah who provided food and
drink; who clothed us, guided us from error, removed our blindness
and favoured us greatly over many of His creation. All praise is for
Allah, Lord of the worlds. (Nasā’ī)
Abu Hurayrah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates: “A man from the Ansar from the people of
Quba invited the Prophet ﷺfor a meal. When he ﷺhad finished eating and had washed
his hands, he said [the above].” (Nasā’ī in Sunan al-Kubrā 10060, Ibn Ḥibbān 5219)
All praise is for Allah; praise which is abundant, pure, blessed and
perpetual, as our Lord loves and is pleased with. (Nasā’ī)
Rifa’ah b. Rafi (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) said: “I prayed behind the Prophet ﷺand I sneezed and
said: [the above]. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺfinished praying, he turned and asked:
‘Who is the one who spoke during the prayer?’ But no one said anything. Then he said it a
second time: ‘Who is the one who spoke during the prayer?’ So Rifa’ah b. Rafi b. Afrah said:
‘It was me, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘I said: [the above] The Prophet ﷺsaid: ‘By the
One in Whose hand is my soul, thirty-odd angels hastened to see which of them would
take it up.’” (Nasā’ī 931)

Abū Umāmah Bahilī (r.a.) says that the Messenger of Allah ﷺpassed by him while he was
moving his lips, so he asked: “What are you saying O Abū Umāmah?” He replied: “I am
remembering my Lord.” He ﷺsaid: “Shall I not inform you of the most virtuous dhikr for the
night and day? It is that you say [the above].” (Composite: Ahmad 22198 and Ibn Ḥibbān

Exalt Allah
وَتَعاَلٰى َجُّد َك َوَلا ِإ ٰلَه َغْيُرَك، َوَتَباَرَك اْسُمَك، ُسْبَحاَنَك الّٰلُهَّم وِبَحْمِدَك
How perfect are You O Allah, and all praise is Yours. Your name is
most blessed, Your majesty is exalted and there is no god worthy of
worship except You.
Abu Sa’id Khudri (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺgot up to
pray at night (for tahajjud prayer) he uttered the takbir ( )اهلل أكبرand then said: “[the
above]”. He then said: ( اَل ِإ َٰل َه ِإ اَّل ٱُهَّٰللThere is no god but Allah) three times; and: اُهَّلل َأ ْكَب ُر َكِب يًر ا
(Allah is altogether great) three times.
I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing and All-Knowing from the accursed devil,
from his evil whisper, from his blowing, and from his spitting.” He then recited (the Qur’an).
(Abū Dāwūd 775)
Allah is free from imperfection and all praise is for Him. Allah, the
Magnificent, is free from imperfection.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid: “There are two statements that are light on the tongue,
heavy on the Scale and are beloved to the Most Merciful: ُس ْب َح اَن اِهلل اْلَع ِظ ْي م، ُس ْب َح اَن اِهلل َو ِب َح ْم ِد ِه.”
(Bukhārī 6682, Muslim 2694)
Allah is free from imperfection and all praise is for Him, (in ways)
as numerous as all He has created, (as vast) as His pleasure, (as
limitless) as the weight of His Throne, and (as endless) as the ink
of His words. (Muslim)
Juwayriyah bint al-Hārith (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā) reported: “The Prophet ﷺleft (my home) in
the morning as I was busy in performing the dawn prayer. He came back in the forenoon
and found me sitting there. He ﷺasked: ‘Are you still in the same position as I left you?’ I
replied in the affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet ﷺsaid: ‘I recited four phrases three
times after I left you. If everything that you have said today was put in the scales, [the
above] would outweigh it.’” (Muslim 2140, Abū Dāwūd 1503)
‘Awf b. Malik (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates: “I stood with the Prophet ﷺ. He started by using
the siwak and performing wudhu, then he stood and prayed. He started reciting Al-
Baqarah and he did not come to any verse that spoke of mercy but he paused and asked
for mercy, and he did not come to any verse that spoke of punishment but he paused
(and sought refuge with Allah from that). Then he bowed and he stayed bowing for as
long as he had stood, and he said while bowing: [the above] Then he prostrated for as
long as he had bowed, saying while prostrating: [the above]. Then he recited Al Imran,
then another surah and another, doing that each time.” (Nasā’ī 1132)
Declare the Perfection of Allah
َرُّب اْلَمَلاِئَكِة َوالُّر ْوِح، ُقُّد ْوٌس، ُس ُّب ْوٌح
The Supremely Perfect, the Most Pure, the Lord of the angels and the
Spirit (Jibrīl).
Aishah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā) narrates: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺwould say [the above] in
his ruku and sajdah.” (Muslim 487)
Ibn ‘Umar (radiy Allāhū ‘anhumā) narrates: “While we performing salah with the
Messenger of Allah ()ﷺ, someone from among us said: [the above] The Messenger of
Allah ﷺsaid: Who uttered such and such a word? A person among the people said: It was
me (who recited these words), Messenger of Allah. He ﷺsaid: “It (its utterance) surprised
me, for the doors of heaven were opened for It.” Ibn ‘Umar (radiy Allāhū ‘anhumā) said: “I
have not abandoned them (these words) since I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺsaying
this.” (Muslim 601)
Aisha narrates: “When the Messenger of Allah would turn in his sleep (at night), he would
say [the above].” (Ibn Hibbān 5530)

Ubadah b. Samit (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever
wakes up in the night and says: [the above], then he supplicates ( َر ِّب اْغ ِف ْر ِل يO Lord, forgive
me), he will be forgiven.’” Walid said: “Or he said: then if he supplicates, it will be answered
then if he stood up and performed wudhu and then performed salah, his prayer would be
accepted.”(Ibn Mājah 3878)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺwould invoke Allah at the time of distress with [the above]
(Bukhārī 6345, Muslim 2730)
O Allah, I call upon You, Your angels, the bearers of Your Throne,
and all those in the heavens and the earth to bear witness that
surely You are Allah. There is no god but You Alone. You have no
partner whatsoever, and I bear witness that Muammad ﷺis Your slave
and Your Messenger.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid: “Whosoever reads [the above] once, Allah frees a quarter
of him from the Hell-fire. Whosever reads it twice, Allah frees two-thirds of him from the
Hell-fire. And whosoever reads it thrice, Allah frees him completely from the Hell-fire.”
(Hākim 1920)
O Allah, I seek protection in Your pleasure from Your anger, and in Your forgiveness from
Your punishment. I seek protection from You through You. I cannot enumerate Your praise.
You are as You have praised Yourself.
Ali b. Abi Talib (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺused to say [the
above] at the end of his witr Salah.” (Abū Dāwūd 1427, Tirmidhi 3566, Ibn Majah 1179) In
another narration, it is narrated from Aisha (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā): “I noticed that the
Messenger of Allah ﷺwas missing from his bed one night, so I went looking for him, and
my hand touched the soles of his feet while he was prostrating with his feet upright. He
was saying: [the above without the word ]ِإ ِّن ْي.” (Muslim 486)

Anas b. Malik (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid to Mu’adh:
“Shall I not teach you such a duʿā that if you had debt equal to Mount Uhud, Allah will pay
it off for you. Say O Muadh: [the above].” (Tabarānī in Mu’jam al-Saghir 558)
ُكُفًوا َأ َحٌد
O Allah, I beg You as I bear witness that You are Allah, there is no
god worthy of worship except You, the One, the Self-Sufficient
Master, who has not given birth and was not born, and to whom none is
equal.
Buraydah (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺheard a man
saying [the above]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺremarked: “By the One in Whose Hand is
my life, He has certainly asked Allah with His Greatest Name; when He is supplicated by it,
He responds, and when asked, He gives.” (Tirmidhī 3475)
O Allah, I beg You as all praise only belongs to You. There is no god
worthy of worship except You, the Giver of all good, the Originator
of the heavens and the earth. O Lord of Majesty and Honour, O the
Ever Living, O the One who sustains and protects all that exists.
Anas ibn Malik (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrates that I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah
ﷺand a man was offering Salah. The man then said [the above]. The Messenger of Allah
ﷺremarked: “He has certainly asked Allah with His Greatest Name; when He is
supplicated by it, He responds, and when asked, He gives.” (Abū Dāwūd 1495)

Tashahhud like he would teach us a surah of the Qur’an (saying): All royal greetings
belong to Allah, as do prayers and good (deeds and words). May peace, the mercy of
Allah and His blessings be upon the Prophet. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous
servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah and I bear witness that
Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. He then said [the above] and ‘May the peace
and mercy of Allah be upon you’.” (Dāraqunī 1338)

Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious. (Bukhārī)
