Abstract
The paper has reviewed the previous studies that aimed at investigating the use of Quizizz
Application in improving students’ reading achievement. A Quasi - Experimental design
was employed only one classes at the seventh grades of SMPN 1 Parepare. The data were
obtained through a pre-test and a post-test. The compulation showed that the used Quizizz
Application was improving the students’ reading achievement, students’ reading achievement
using the Quizizz Application show better learning outcomes than before the Quizizz
Application was applied. The results of inferensial statistical analysis using the t test formula.
Introduction
Nowdays, the progress of education in Indonesian is growing rapidly along with
technological advances. One lesson that is not less important is English language. In the
process of teaching English, there are several aspects that need to be considered, namely
reading skill, speaking skill, writing skill, and listening skill. All these skills have important
links between each other, especially for the reading skill. Reading is an activity in which a
person obtains information in a passage. In terms of perspective reading is an activity that
requires high concentration or focus in reading to obtain information. Reading is a part of
daily activities, which is always done by someone. He or she usually reads to find something
that he or she wants to know, need other opinion, which wants to check clearly some
information (Rahayu, 2014). Reading is a process that is done by the readers to get a
message, to be delivered from authors with an intermediary media words or writing. Besides,
reading is a process done and used for the reader to find out messages that use the author of
words or written language. Reading is also needed to know the answers to a particular
question or issue for which someone reads. To satisfy one's thirst for knowledge, reading
books is necessary, and most of the books. In addition, there are many difficulties that
students often experience in reading or in terms of reading achievement, often the students
feel lazy, it is difficult to know the information on the reading, lack of motivation in reading,
difficulty to pronunciation, lack of vocabulary and lack of confidence in students.
The most acknowledged cause of failure of the students in effective reading is the lack of
vocabulary. Many students inspired by friends or guided by teachers sometimes try to read a
book but soon they lose the eagerness and interest with which they start reading the text. In
every paragraph, or even in every sentence, or every phrase they come across some new
words, which create a constant barrier for them to understand the meaning. Sometimes, they
do not understand the long sentences, and they miss the links between parts of a text. As a
result, they lose their patience and their interest, and they give up reading. Sometimes they
may inspire to dictionary too many times and get bored, and at last, their enthusiasm for
reading the text dies down.
This study provides an overview of classroom management strategies and classroom
management facilities programs for (new) teachers in primary education to help them develop
ways to effectively manage their classroom and to identify interventions that have the
potential to prevent classroom management difficulties. One way for classroom management

to run well, by utilizing the internet facilities provided by the school, a teacher conducting an
online search of posted web quest would find many activates from all subject and topic.
Whereas according the analysis of the data obtained through quasi-experiment reveals that
there is significant difference between students’ reading achievement achievement taught by
using M-Web Quest compared to those who are taught conventionally (Hadriana, 2014).
Some researchers have found about the Quizizz Applications in improving students' reading
ability. Quizizz is an online assessment tool as a fun multiplayer classroom activity that
allows all students to practice together with their computer, Smartphone and I Pad. The
researchers uses this application media because this application media is kind of learning
model (Ju, 2018). Therefore, how the students can get some information by the Quizizz
Application and students can collaboration with their friends and sharing with the teacher. So
that Students’ have a motivation about the benefit of using Quizizz Application media to
collaboration with friends.
Methods
This research study used quantitative approach.The design of this study is quasi-experimental
design because the researcher wants to measure the use of Quizizz Application in improving
reading achievement students at SMPN 1 Parepare. The test is distributed to measure the
students’ reading achievement through Quizizz Application. The tests was give to students of
experimental and control classes. The test is divide into two tests. They are pre-test will give
before treatment, and post-test will give after doing the treatment.
Result
The result of this research shows that there was good effect of using Quizizz in reading
achievement. Students gave an active participation because the application helped them built
up their background knowledge. It also helped them to predict the contents of the text.
Almost all of students in the class are satisfied and agree that quizizz could improve their
reading achievement. Unfortunately there are some students still have difficulties to using the
quizizz. The description above has flowed to a single conclusion that quizizz has a positive
impact on students’ reading achievement achievement where it could increase the students’
reading achievement in all aspects. It caused by the fact that in using quizizz the teacher ask
the students to apply their background knowledge and help them to comprehend the passage
Based on the research at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Parepare and analyzing the data,
the researcher draws the conclusion as follows:
1. There was a significant effect of students’ reading achievement achievement in
descriptive text after being taught by using Quizizz application . The t-value was 9.88
and the t-table was 2.026. Thus, the t-value was higher than the critical value, (9.88 >
2.026). ). It can be concluded that there was a significant difference between the
experimental and control groups. This could Ha was accepted. It could be concluded
that the use quizizz to see the effect of students’ reading achievement of descriptive text in
all reading aspects. The aspects of reading that improve the most is vocabulary and
specific information has the lowest improvement among other aspects of reading.
2. Vocabulary has the most increase aspect because quizizz could develop and give effect
their ability to find out the word which has the same meaning with word on the question.
It does not require students to make their own conclusion to find the answer.
3. Inference (predicting outcome, main idea, implicit information, cause and effect
relationship). Make Student easy to understand the meaning of a passage of text without
all the information being spelled out. From context clues within a passage, the author
gives information about plot, characters, setting, time period and other elements of story
by the things he or she infers.

Discussion
To discuss further, is Quizizz better to use in the classroom. First is the engagement; Quizizz
is more engaging for it does not split the students’ concentration during the quiz. It allows the
students to see the questions and all possible answers on their own devices and it is likely
students self - directed quiz which the students might complete the quiz at their own speed
and therefore remain highly engaged during the quiz. Second, a more fair result; questions
and answers are shuffled for each student. Therefore they have no chance to cheat each other.
Third, since the questions and answers are shuffled for each student, they keep focusing on
doing their own work. Fourth, more entertaining. Quizizz has memes, funny pictures shown
after each question, as the questions’ feedbacks. In these lines, from the students’ view as the
result of the present research, students’ preference for Quizizz has some reasons. First,
Quizizz is more interesting, motivating and fun. Second, Quizizz is more addictive. Third,
Quizizz makes students more confident/positive. Fourth, Quizizz makes students more eager
to grasp the lessons in the classroom or autonomous learning at home. Fifth, Quizizz creates a
more energetic classroom atmosphere. Sixth, Quizizz allows students to finish the quiz more
independently. Seventh, Quizizz makes students more focus on doing the quiz. Eight, Quizizz
results from a more fair and objective score. Ninth, Quizizz is more familiar and simpler (no
need more body movements). Lastly, the tenth, Quizizz questions’ feedbacks (memes) are
entertaining.
Conclusions
Based on the data analysis and the research result, it could be concluded that
there was significant effect of using Quizizz as media to improve students in reading
achievement for the seventh grade of SMP 1 Parepare. It was based on the significance
value which was lower than the significance level (9.88 > 2.026). From the research
findings above, it could be stated that Ha was accepted. It means that the students
taught by using Quizizz application had better reading achievement than the
students taught by using Qualizalize application.
