CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Name of the Firm

PrintProsper is the name of the printing service, crafted by combining “print” and

“prosper”. In the realm of printing technology, a “printer” denotes a machine employed

to replicate text and images on the diverse surfaces, like paper or fabric, using these

methods such as inkjet, laser or offset. These devices find extensive use in households,

offices, and industries, to generate tangible photographs. Meanwhile, “prosper” signifies

achieving success and growth in a specific field, often associated with delivering top-

notch products and services. By fusing these two words, “PrintProsper” emerges as a

memorable and appealing moniker for a printing business, suggesting that clients can

thrive through the provision of top-quality dependable printing services.

Location

This business will be renting a space at Chateau Francisca Building, North

National Highway, Bantayan, Dumaguete, City, near to schools and companies and other

establishments. The target consumers are students, employers, employees, and nearby

neighborhood.

Brief description of the project

Printing has become an essential requirement in today’s modern society. As

technology advances, the conventional practices of writing on paper and using

2

typewriters are gradually giving way to printing. Presently, digital printing establishments

can be spotted in abundance throughout urban areas, particularly in the vicinity of

educational institutions and workplaces. According to PFL (n.d), digital printing is a

technique for transferring text and images from computers or laptops onto various types

of paper (such as photo paper or bond paper) using compact printers equipped with four

different liquid ink colors (black, magenta, cyan, and yellow).

PrintProsper is a printing enterprise that excels in delivering top-tier printing

solutions. With a primary aim of aiding clients in accomplishing their printing objectives,

PrintProsper provides an extensive array of printing services, encompassing document

creation, marketing collateral, promotional merchandise, and beyond. Employing diverse

printing technologies and techniques, the enterprise produces polished prints suitable for

personal, commercial, or promoting usage. PrintProsper is dedicated to ensuring

outstanding outcomes, prompts services, and customer contentment, establishing itself as

a dependable all for all printing needs.

In addition to its printing services, PrintProsper provides a range of other

offerings. Utilizing a combination of computers and printers, the company also offers

services such as scanning, photocopy, brochures, flyers, invitations, banners, business

cards, posters, and stationary. The primary rational offering these additional services is

the close relationship between their nature and digital printing services.
3

PrintProsper is the go-to printing destination for your urgent needs. When you

require important documents printed promptly, PrintProsper ensures they are prepared

and cleanly and neatly done for you.

Technical Feasibility

The technical feasibility of PrintProsper encompasses the selection of its products

and services, including their applications, process, and the materials involved. This

assessment also encompasses a breakdown of costs, spanning from raw materials,

machinery and equipment to production expenses, utilities, and rent, totaling Php

900,000.00

The production schedule is also integrated to ensure a well-organized work

routine, with operations running from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a total twelve (12)

operational hours each day, from Monday to Saturday.

business, given its city setting and the proximity to numerous schools, offices, and other

big establishments. The layout of PrintProsper has been meticulously designed to create a

comfortable and conductive environment. It also determines the labor and its waste

disposal schedules.

Management Feasibility

A sole proprietorship will serve as the chosen business structure, and it will have

a workforce consisting of five (5) individuals, this includes owner/manager, cashier, two

customer personnel, and technician. The employment of the five individuals is considered
5

an optimal organizational arrangement as it allows for ample workspace and facilities

straightforward communication.

The employees will receive the requisite benefits and be compensated in

accordance with legal minimum wage standards. The company has implemented practical

and uncomplicated organizational procedures to foster a harmonious and equitable

environment.

Furthermore, the proprietor has obtained all the essential legal documentation

102.0 respectively, and an acid ratio of 16.6, 30.6, 49.1, 70.4 and 95.5 respectively. This

means that PrintProsper has a healthy liquidity ratio given that the all-ratio computations

are higher than 1. An operating profit margin of 3.05%, 5.30%, 7.29%, 9.23% and

11.13% respectively, and Gross Profit Margin of 25.60%, 27.02%, 28.41%, 29.77% and

31.11% respectively, and a Net Profit Margin of 2.59%, 4.24%, 5.84%, 6.93% and 8.34%

respectively, which implies that PrintProsper has a good performance in terms of

profitability as indicated in its high ratio. On the computed break-even point for the five-

year projection, PrintProsper has been operating above its break-even point; hence, the
6

business is operating at a profit. And based on the Probability Index computed which is at

1.76, signifies that PrintProsper is deemed as a good investment.

development within the society at large. It is evident how business significantly impacts

the economy, employments rates, people’s livelihoods, and government functions. The

operation of business is directly influenced by the social structure and cultural aspects of

STATISTICAL AND FINANCIAL DATA

Statistical Treatment

To successfully interpret the data, the researchers will employ the following

statistical treatment: percentage, frequency, ranking, weighted mean, and Likert scale.

1. Percentage

The frequency of each response will be determined by the number of

respondents who respond to the item, and the demographic profile of the

respondents will be determined using the percentage calculation.

Formula: % = F/N x 100

Where: % is the Percentage

F is the Frequency

N is the Total Number of Respondents

100 constant value

2. Frequency

The count or number of occurrences of a particular response or category

within a dataset. Analyzing the frequency distribution of responses helps

researchers understand the distribution patterns and prevalence of different

answers to specific survey questions.

15

3. Ranking

The process of assigning a numerical or ordinal order to set of items or

options based on the preferences or perceived importance of survey respondents.

Ranking data can provide valuable insights into respondent’s preferences,

priorities, or opinions on a particular set of choices.

4. Weighted mean

Because it less prone to error, the mean is the most used in calculating

central tendency. The tabulated data will be analyzed using frequency

distribution, percentages, and weighted mean

5. Likert scale

The qualitative description that follows was modified to quantify the

respondents’ responses to each item.

accumulate up to 15 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave each year, all with full

pay. The accrued leave, whether for vacation or sickness, can be carried forward to

subsequent years if not utilized within the current calendar year. At the end of the year,
47

any remaining unused leave can be converted into monetary compensation. In certain

cases, the monetization of 50% or more of vacation or sick leave credits may be

permitted for valid and justifiable reasons.

Emergency Leaves. Employees can request special emergency leave for a

continuous duration of five working days or on a staggered basis, without any deduction

from their leave credits. This leave option is available for utilization within ten (10) days

from the occurrence of a natural calamity or disaster.

Code of Conduct Policy

Work. Employees are expected to engage in a six-day workweek and are

permitted to take necessary and reasonable leaves as required. Adherence to the rules and

regulations governing working hours is mandatory for all employees. Each employee is

entitled to two 30-minute breaks and an additional 15-minute break on an alternating

basis.

Punctuality and Attendance. Being present at the designated time is obligatory,

and employees must arrive on or before the scheduled time, fully prepared to engage in

their assigned tasks. Tardiness and absenteeism undoubtedly affect an employee's

performance, with potential repercussions on the overall quality and productivity of the

business. Exceptions can be made for valid reasons.

48

Trustworthiness and Integrity. Every staff member is accountable for

maintaining the confidentiality of data. Consequently, information should be treated with

discretion. Essential data, especially concerning the organization's plans, strategies, and

similar details, must be kept strictly confidential. Conversely, other forms of information

may be shared for general reference and public awareness.

Good Moral Character. Employees are required to stay conscious of their duties

and obligations consistently, adhering to elevated moral standards. Hence, employees are

expected to minimize interactions with dubious individuals, refrain from drug addiction,

and avoid engaging in indecent behaviors.

Courtesy. Employees should be motivated by a commitment to deliver the most

satisfactory service to the public in a courteous manner. Consequently, any instance of

impoliteness will be treated with utmost seriousness.

Workplace Health and Safety Policy. Our organization is dedicated to

maintaining a robust safety program aimed at safeguarding its personnel, property, and

the general public from accidents. Ensuring the well-being of employees, preventing

injuries, and addressing occupational diseases are key ongoing priorities. PrintProsper is

committed to creating a work environment that is safe and conducive to good health.

• Smoking is prohibited within the premises.

• Pets are not permitted on the premises.

49

• Bringing or consuming alcoholic beverages inside the establishment is not

permitted.

• The introduction of dangerous weapons or hazardous substances within the

premises is restricted.

• Employees are required to undergo security inspection upon entering and exiting

the work area.

Anti-Harassment Policy. PrintProsper is dedicated to establishing a secure

environment for all its employees, free from discrimination and workplace harassment,

including sexual harassment. The business maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards

any form of sexual harassment in the workplace, taking all incidents seriously and

promptly investigating allegations of sexual harassment.

Behaviors that constitute sexual harassment include, but are not limited to:

Physical Conduct:

• Unwanted physical contact such as patting, pinching, stroking, kissing, hugging,

fondling, or inappropriate touching.

• Physical violence, including sexual assault.

• Use of job-related threats or rewards to solicit sexual favors.

Verbal Conduct:
50

• Comments on a worker's appearance, age, or private life.

• Sexual comments, stories, and jokes.

• Sexual advances.

• Repeated and unwanted social invitations for dates or physical intimacy.

• Insults based on the worker's sex.

• Condescending or paternalistic remarks.

• Sending sexually explicit messages (via phone or email).

Non-Verbal Conduct:

• Display of sexually explicit or suggestive material.

• Sexually suggestive gestures.

• Whistling.

• Leering.

Employees Termination Policy. The company will adhere to all legal

requirements concerning the termination or separation of employment, avoiding any

"implied contracts" and unnecessary terminations.

Voluntary Terminations. An employee may initiate termination by providing

written or verbal notice of resignation to their supervisor. Additionally, termination may

occur when an employee is absent from work for three consecutive workdays without

contacting their supervisor, leading to job abandonment.

51

Involuntary Terminations. If an employee is unable to fulfill the essential

functions of their job, with or without reasonable accommodation, it may lead to

involuntary termination. Additionally, an employee may be discharged for legal reasons,

encompassing but not limited to misconduct, tardiness, absenteeism, unsatisfactory

performance, or inability to perform.

Death of an Employee. Termination resulting from the death of an employee will

be effective as of the date of their passing.

Grounds for Disciplinary Action. The grounds for disciplining or terminating an

employee include the following:

• Unsatisfactory job performance or significant inefficiency in job duties.

• Violation of published company policies or failure to adhere to business

procedures.

• Unacceptable personal conduct.

Certain actions by an employee may fall into one or more of these categories.

When just cause is present, any employee within the organization, regardless of their

position, may face disciplinary action from the management. These actions may range

from oral or written warnings to suspension with pay, suspension without pay, or

termination.
52

The severity of the unsatisfactory job performance or the nature of the misconduct

will determine whether an employee receives a final written warning or faces immediate

termination from the business, bypassing progressive disciplinary steps.

operation of the business. The following outlines the specified requirements along with

SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECT

The socio-economic aspect refers to the factors that may arise when establishing a

business within society, the government, the business community, and individual

households. It encompasses management decision-making aimed at fostering improved

relationships with others and enhancing overall quality of life. This section underscores

that a business exists not solely for profit but also for the advancement and development

of the economy. The chapter outlines the positive contributions made by the business to

society, the government, households, and the business community.

73

Contribution to the Local Government Unit/Philippine Economy

The main goal of the business is to establish a reliable and enduring revenue

stream for its future activities. As is the standard practice in business, it carries the

obligating of providing financial contributions to the government in the form of tax

payments. These tax refunds are later employed by the government to develop

infrastructures and public amenities that enhance the well-being of the entire community.

Employment Generation

In accordance with Article 13, Section 3, Paragraph 1 of the 1987 Constitution of

the Republic of the Philippines, every Filipino is granted equal employment

opportunities. Despite the presence of numerous capable and skilled Filipinos,

unemployment remains a persistent issue in the Philippines. Many Filipinos discover

themselves working in roles that do not correspond with their qualifications and interest,

accepting positions that are unrelated to their areas of expertise or academic pursuits.

This scenario results in a disparity between their skills and their chosen careers, leading

to a condition commonly referred to as unemployment.

Social Desirability

By having printing services situated in Bantayan, it enhances the effectiveness

and efficiency of various organizations. This is achieved by providing students,

companies, and general customers with easier access to printing facilities, thus

eliminating the need to go elsewhere in search of the nearest print shop. This service
74

primarily ensures that customers have accessibility for printing tasks like homework,

essays, research papers, and personal materials.

PrintProsper not only offers the advantage of a convenient location but also plays

a role in bolstering the local economy. It achieves this by promoting growth and

innovation within the community, contributing to economic development, creating job

opportunities, and imparting entrepreneurial skills to the local population. Furthermore, it

nurtures interpersonal relationships with customers, employees, and suppliers.
