Activities - In House
Yoga & Meditation
7.30 am to 8.30 am
(Guests can confirm this on arrival if required)
Yoga and meditation are conducted at our yoga centre 'Thapasya'; and help one
in finding equilibrium for the body, mind, and soul.

Handmade Paper Making


2.00 pm
Watch how paper generated from old newspapers and magazines is used at our
handmade paper-making centre and turned into helpful paper. You can also try
your hand at it if you wish to.

Pepper Vine (10.00 am & 4.00 pm - 1 hour)


Organic Garden Vegetable Harvest (11:30 am | Prior booking required)
Go on a tour of the resort with our Naturalist, where you get to see the amazing
flora, fauna and Eco activities that are carried out. You will also be shown around
the organic farm where you can experience vegetables being harvested.

Introduction to Spices
6.45 pm to 7.30 pm
An interactive cooking demonstration during which our Chef cooks local cuisine
and explains the intricacies of its cooking methods. The Naturalist who is also
present provides interesting insight into the spices and the other ingredients used.
Night Walk (8 pm to 8:30 pm)
Going for a nature walk through Spice Village at night is a very different
experience from doing this during the daytime. The buzzing of crickets
and frogs also gets loud at night. With a torch, comfortable walking shoes
and our naturalist, a little night-time exploration on the grounds can be a
wonderful addition to your experience.

An evening with the Naturalist (8:30 pm)


Guests can gather around at the amphitheatre and our naturalist will
share his experience, knowledge and stories about the Periyar Tiger
Reserve, the local people, cuisine, wildlife and much more, through
presentations.

Activities for Children

Bird Call
9 am
Children can spend quality time with our Naturalists learning interesting
facts about birds’ habitats, behaviour and calls.

Nature & Art


8 am to 5 pm
Want to get your creative juices flowing? Drawing and painting strengthen
memory, promote an optimistic attitude and nurture your Child's emotional
growth. We've got an interesting activity where Children spend some Fun
time unleashing their inner artist. If your child is new to it then they can
choose from a bunch of wild-life or nature-themed outlines to play with.
(The art supplies are provided)

A Wild Wonderland Awaits (Anytime)


An activity where the Children are taken for a tour of the resort by the
Naturalist, where he explains to them our Eco initiatives, giving them
insight into our core concepts. It is an interactive session during which
questions are asked, answers sought, and a deeper understanding is
developed in these young and impressionable minds. At the end of the
walk, a questionnaire based on these initiatives and concepts is handed
over to the Children for them to answer. Surprise gifts are awarded to the
winners, making this a fun educational activity.

Children's Movie Club


11 am & 3:30 pm
A whole lot of, fun Children’s movies are screened at the Tiger Club for
those interested.

Table Tennis, Caroms, Chess, Rummikub, Domino, Ludo,Cards & Brainvita.

Treasure Hunt (Anytime)


An activity where the Children are involved in an interesting game where they
learn more about the different species of plants around the resort. A plant card
with the English names of over a hundred plant species can be found in each
room. The Children on their treasure hunt locate and write down the
corresponding Latin and family names of those listed plants. A game that brings
your Child as close to nature as they can get; and what's more is that you stand a
chance to win a Surprise gift at the end of the Treasure Hunt.

A farm-to-table Experience for Children (2:30 pm)


During this activity, the Children get to explore the Botanical Garden and learn
more about different spices of plants and herbs. They also spend a fun-filled
afternoon creating mocktails with fresh herbs from our Organic garden.
Forest Activities
Guided day treks
A light trek for the uninitiated

Nature trails traversing diverse habitats form the trekking routes, generally 4
to 5 km. in length. This light trek offers an excellent opportunity to explore the
flora and fauna of the forest, accompanied by a guide from the tribal
community. On this trek, you can spot different varieties of birds, butterflies,
and other wildlife.

Nature Walk
Starting at Periyar lake, it covers evergreen and moist deciduous forests and
marshy grasslands.
Time: 2.5 hr
Timings: 7 am, 7.30 am, 10 am, 10.30 am, 2 pm, and 2.30 pm
Number of people per trek: Min 4, Max 6 | *Rate: Rs. 1600/- for 4 persons

Green Walk
Starting near the bamboo grove, and passing through the tribal settlement, it
also covers evergreen and moist deciduous forests and marshy grasslands.
Time: 3 hr
Timings: 7 am, 7.30 am, 10 am, 10.30 am, 2 pm, and 2.30 pm

Trekking and Bamboo Rafting Expedition in the Forest
(Full/half day)

Starting in the morning at 8 am and finishing at 5 pm, this expedition


covers varied terrains of the Periyar Tiger Reserve over 10 km of trekking
and 3-4 hrs of rafting. One covers a good distance on foot exploring the
forest before reaching the bamboo rafts on the lake. While rafting one
gets a panoramic view of forest hills surrounding the lake. Animals like
Elephants, Gaurs and Sambar deer, Wild Dogs and Otters can be
spotted along the edges of the lake, and if you are lucky a Tiger playing
with its cubs or the great Malabar Hornbill flying above you. After the
rafting expedition, the group treks back to finish by 5 pm. Food and
water are carried on the expedition. The expedition is accompanied by
forest guides and an armed guard.

Full-day expedition (Covering 10 km of trekking and 2 hrs of rafting)

Jungle Scout

A thrilling 2.5 hr trek to spot the nocturnal life in the forest. This
trek that covers evergreen and moist deciduous forests and marshy
grasslands is accompanied by two forest guides and an armed
forest guard.

Time: 2.5 hr
Timings: 7 pm, 10 pm, 1 am
Number of people per trek: Min 2, Max 6

Border Hiking

Forest conservation Trek and mountain hike.


The conservation-oriented arduous trek starts at 8 am and ends in
the evening. The route passes through undulating terrains.
Altitudinal ranges of 900 to 1300 meters will be covered, and the
trekkers can get a glimpse of the lofty escarpments bordering the
park and the vast plains below. Gaur, sloth bear, elephant, etc.
are often sighted apart from birds and butterflies. A maximum of
12 tourists can participate in the hike in two groups. The trekkers
will go with two guides and an armed forest guard.

This trek covers the richest part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve and
has two start points, the Bamboo Grove and the Entrance Gate.
Food and water will be provided.

Tiger Trail
In the Tiger Trail, nature lovers are in the hands of a team of hardy and
dependable guides who know the forest and its ways intimately. This is an
adventurous camping and trekking programme inside the forest with
accommodation in tents.

Time slots: Starts at 9 am | Group size: Six persons per group


Only children of 12 years and above are allowed to participate in the above
programme.
One night and two days

Two nights and three days
*Rate: Rs. 10,000/-per person (Minimum Rs. 15,000/- per camp)

Pug Mark Trail (Self-guided trail)


You can now explore the beauty of nature through a self-guided soft trek, which
is a newly introduced trek at Periyar Tiger Reserve. During the programme, you will
be guided by a number of bio-diversity themes, pictures of birds carved out in
stone, tree species name boards etc.

Boating in the Periyar Tiger Reserve
Boating through the Periyar lake gives you a chance to watch the wildlife across
the shore of the lake. Animals like Elephants, Gaur and Sambar are sighted
keeping close to the edges of the lake. If it is your lucky day you may even spot a
big cat.

Gavi Jeep Safari

This full-day Jeep safari, starts from Spice Village at 5:30 am, first 15 km through
normal road, then another 25 km through the Jungle. You reach Gavi in 2.5 hours
in time for breakfast. After breakfast, you can join the two-hour soft trek through
the open grassland and the shola forest. Post lunch, spend 30-45 minutes rowing
on the lake. The return ride reaches the hotel at approximately 3 pm

Outdoor Activities
(Accompanied by the Naturalist)
Visit a local Spice farm and Lunch
This day trip takes you to a neighbouring spice plantation. Our Naturalist and the Planter will
walk you through the plantation filling you in with details on the flora and fauna. The scent
of the spices mingles with the fresh mountain air. This is the starting point of the centuries-
old spice trade and that delicious flavour which makes such a difference to foods
worldwide. Once you've worked up an appetite you are welcomed to the Planter's home for
a delectable Kerala meal on a banana leaf.

Periyar Walk
This is a soft trek with our naturalist in the Periyar Tiger Reserve, 400 km away from
Spice Village. During this walk, get to identify different birds from their songs that ring
through the forest around them with the help of expert naturalists who will help single
out the tell-tale characteristics of each call. As the lush forest abounds on either side
of the Road, there is a good chance of sighting wildlife on your walk.

Day Visit to Tamil Nadu (8 am)


An early morning drive takes you towards Tamil Nadu where you have an experience
of the vegetable fair trade market, village walks and interactions with the local
farmers, walk through paddy fields, visit a brick-making unit and relish local cuisine on
the way.

A trip to Honey Nagar


A one-of-its-kind tour to Honey Nagar where we meet Raju and his colleagues who
are passionate about beekeeping. The entire village is involved in this activity and
hence the name Honey Nagar. Raju, the recipient of many an award for his initiative, is
very enthusiastic and will enthral you with information on the Bee Kingdom and how it
benefits our wellbeing. An interesting visit with lots to learn.

Palar Greens - Mini Tea Factory visit


Palar Greens mini-tea factory, located at 3600 ft and 65 km away from Kumily is open
for visitors to learn about Tea cultivation, Traditional Tea making and Tea tasting as
well. End the visit with a traditional wholesome vegetarian lunch with the Tea factory
owner's family.

Bullock Cart Discoveries
A scenic drive takes you from Kumily to Tamilnadu, during which you can enjoy the
valley view of Tamilnadu's farmlands. Our naturalists talk about the local wildlife
sightings and about the famed Mullaperiyar dam, its History etc. The drive reaches
the lower camp in time for our bullock cart ride along with a Local NGO called
Wild Life Foundation Of India. An amazing two hours are spent spotting various
birds and the naturalist goes on to explain local farming practices as well as the
history and culture of the land.
Timings: 6:30 am and 2:30 pm (3 hrs)

Sense the Lowlands on Pedals


Pedal through the beautiful Lowlands of Tamilnadu where you can pass through
vegetable farms, explore local village life, spot birds en route and just enjoy
nature.
Timing: 6:30 am to 9:30 am or 4 pm to 7 pm

Jeep Safaris
Kerala Package
You can go sightseeing to some of Kerala's beautiful viewpoints - Chellarkovil, famous for
its green mountain slopes and cascading waterfalls, Pandikuzhi where chilling streams add
to the beauty of the vista, and Ottakathalamedu offering a breathtaking view of Kumily,
Periyar Tiger Reserve, the spice gardens and some of the villages in Tamil Nadu.

Sathram Package
An off-road experience through the forest borders, covering a 55 km stretch in roughly 3
hrs. Experience rugged terrain through streams, hillocks and lavish green mountains. There
is a chance of wildlife sightings too. One of those trips where you will be at a pace of your
own.

Kalvary Mount
Kalvari Mount, also known as Calvary Mount is one of the most scenic locations in Idukki.
The viewpoint offers a charming view of Idukki Reservoir with Idukki to Ayyappankovil on
one side and a panoramic view of Kamakshy and Mariyapuram villages on the other side.
The views are one-of-a-kind and cannot be missed.

Meghamalai
Tucked within the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, Meghamalai in the Theni district is a
hidden paradise, the kind that you read about in books. Located at an elevation of 1,500
metres above sea level, Meghamalai is covered in the trademark green of the Sahyadri,
thus earning the name 'Pacha Kumachi' in Tamil, meaning 'Green Peaks'. This location is
complete, with exhilarating trek routes, breathtaking scenes and an excellent opportunity
to take a break from your everyday life in the lap of nature
