1 Experiment 1 - Introduction to ngspice

1.1 Aim:
The aim of this experiment is introduction to ngspice and making elementary
circuits as a .spice file and analysing input and output voltage responses as well
as transient frequency analysis.

1.2 Design:
This experiment included analysis of 4 circuits:

• the first one being a simple RC circuit plotting input and output voltages.
• the second being frequency analysis of the same rc circuit from 1 Hz to
1MHz.
• the third experiment was a shunt clipper that maintains the output voltage
between -5 to 5 V.
• The fourth one was an opamp used as inverting amplifier.
Apart from these, two assignnments for the lab included:

• Changing the direction of dc voltage and diode separately and noticing

the changes in output voltage.
• Using ngspice to make a full wave bridge rectifier and plotting input and
output voltage.

1.4 Conclusion and Inference:
Through this experiment we were able to learn about the syntax of writing
circuits in ngspice and running netlist files through command prompt for circuit
analysis.

1.4.1 Experiment Conclusion Status:

The experiment was completed and results were shown to the alloted TA.

2 Experiment 2 - Introduction to NanoHub

2.1 Aim:
The aim of this experiment is introduction to Nanohub and using the abacus
application to analyze p-n junction diode on adjusting input bias voltage.

2.2 Design:
This experiment included idea about following factors without a bias voltage
and when voltage is increased to reach non-equillibrium.
• Energy band diagram

• Electric field
• Charge density
• Total density

2.4 Conclusion and Inference:
Through this experiment we were able to learn that as the voltage bias increases,
the energy bands start to split, and the peak magnitude of the electric field
decreases. The charge density magnitude diminishes and its peak sharpens.
Additionally, the intersection point of the total density graphs moves upwards
with increasing voltage bias.

2.4.1 Experiment Conclusion Status:

The experiment was completed and results were shown to the alloted TA.
