Pulse rate (lab 10)

Title: Pulse rate and exercise

Aim: To investgate how exercise affects pulse rate

Materials: - One stop watch

- Notebook
- Pen/pencil

Diagram:

Method:

1. The individual was required to relax for a period of 5 minutes.

2. The individual’s pulse rate was checked for 1 minute by placing the 4 figures( not the thumb) on
the inside of the wrist to press an artery against a bone.
3. A stop watch was used to count the number of pulses per minute. This was repeated 3 times
and the average resting pulse was calculated.
4. The individual then performed exercises vigorously.
5. Immediately after the exercise the individual’s pulse was recorded. This was done every minute
until the resting pulse was obtained.
6. The results were recorded in a table.
7. A graph was plotted with the number of pulses against time.
Observation/results:

TABLE SHOWING PULSE RATE AFTER VIGOURUS EXERCISE

Period Time/Minutes Number of pulse beats per

minute

Before exersise 1st 79

2nd 79
3rd 79

Average ... 79

After exersise 1st 157

2nd 134
3rd 132
4th 123
5th 120
6th 100
7th 89
8th 80

Precautions:

1. Ensure the participate is in good health before exercising to avid over exertion or health risks.
2. Use a reliable stopwatch to accurately measure the time intervals for pulse rate readings.

Source of errors;

1. Inaccurate timing
2. Miscounting pulse beats

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the experiment successfully demonstrated that exercises increase pulse rate, as the heart
works harder to supply oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, conforming the direct impact of physical
activity on heart rate.
Lab 13

Title: sanitation

Aim: To determine the rate of mold growth on bread I different environments

Materials: - 3slices of bread

- 3 Ziplock bags
- 1 fridge
- Open environment variable(countertop)
- Dark Environment variable(cupboard)
- Magnifying glass

Method:

1. The various materials were gathered and assigned to their relative stations.
2. One slice of bread was placed into each Ziplock bag
3. At least five holes were pierced on one side of each bad to facilitate air to enter
4. One bag was placed on the countertop and the other one was placed in a dark cupboard.
5. The slices were left for 72 hours
6. The mold growth was observed using a magnifying glass
7. All observations were recorded.

Diagram:

Observation:

Insert the table

Variables:

Controlled: Location

Independent: Environment in which the bread was placed

Air exposure

Dependent: the amount of mold growth observed on the bread over time

Discussion:

Discussion on my chat on whatsapp

Source of errors:

1. Inconsistent Air exposure

2. Uneven temperature conditions

Precations:

1. Ensure consistent piercing

2. Use controlled temperature
Limitations:

1. Limited sample size

Conclusion:

In conclusion, this experiment found that mold growth on bread varied significantly with environmental
conditions, particularly, temperature and humidity, highlighting their crucial roles in microbial
proliferation and food preservation.
Lab 14

Title: Conductors and Insulators

Aim: to determine which house hold materials are conductors and insulators

Materials: - 1 simple circuit

- A piece of glass (tempered)

- 1 pencil of any mercury quality
- 1 plastic ruler
- 1 copper strip
- 1 razor blade

Method:

1. A dimple circuit was set up according to its specifications.

2. A piece of glass was placed between the two open wires for testing.
3. Step 2 was repeated using the pencil, ruler, copper strip and razor blade.
4. All observations were made and recorder in a suitable table.

Discussion:

In my messages on whatsapp

Sources of error:

1. Environmental variability
2. Bread sample differences

Limitations:

1. Controlled conditions
2. Short duration

Precautions:

1. Standardize bread samples

2. Control environmental conditions
Conclusion:

In conclusion, this experiment determined the conductive and insulating properties of various
household materials, demonstrating significant differences In their ability to transfer electricity, which is
essential for practical applications in daily life.

Title: Current and voltage in series and parallel circuits

Aim: to observe the current and voltage in series and parallel circuits

Materials: - 9-volt battery

- Wire
- 3, 6 volt bulbs
- Bulb holder

Method:

1. The series circuit was set up with 1 bulb and the brightness was observed
2. A second bulb was added to the circuit and observations were made.
3. A third bulb was added and observed were made and recorded
4. Step 1-3 were repeated using a parallel circuit as shown in the diagram

Source of error:

1. Inaccurate measurements
2. Connections issues

Component variability

Precautions:

1. Calibrate equipment
2. Secure connections
3. Use identical components

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the study showed that current is constant in series circuits while voltage divides in parallel
circuits, voltage remains constant.
