Introduction
An SEL-7250 Retrofit Solution equipped with an SEL-710 or an SEL-710-5
Motor Protection Relay (only the SEL-710-5 is available with an optional touch-
screen display) is designed to provide in-kind replacement of key features of a
GE Multilin 469 relay. You can save significant time and engineering costs when
you use the SEL-7250 solution compared to a custom replacement design. This
assembly is suitable for the retrofit of existing relays with thermal devices
(RTDs). Ensure you select the appropriate assembly for your application prior to
starting a replacement. This guide provides a broad description of an SEL-7250
with an SEL-710 or an SEL-710-5 and provides a step-by-step procedure to suc-
cessfully install the assembly.

Wiring Diagrams
With interposing terminals labeled consistently with the previous device, draw-
ings need not be updated for an SEL-7250 solution, other than identifying the
SEL device as the active protective device, as desired. Relay part numbers may
vary from assembly to assembly and may be identified on the side of the relay.
Consult the manual for detailed protective relay specifications. SEL-7250 wiring
diagrams and schematics are included in this installation guide. Refer to them if
you choose to make updates to your existing drawings.

Required Tools
The following tools may be required for installation of this SEL-7250 Retrofit
Solution:
➤ Ferrule crimper
➤ Ring terminal crimper
➤ Nut driver
➤ Screwdriver
Installation Steps
Step 1. Label each existing wire on the currently connected device with the
provided wire labels. For example, you should label a wire landed on
the existing Terminal A1 as A1. Place wire tags roughly 2.54 cm
(1 in) from the existing termination, leaving room for wires to be
stripped and re-terminated if needed.

wires to 8–12 in-lb (see Connections on page 2).

but not required.
Step 9. Using the wire tags from Step 1 as your guide, land the remaining
wires on their correspondingly labeled push-in terminal blocks. You
can push solid wire or ferrule terminated wires directly into the pro-
vided terminal block cages.
To insert stranded wires, depress the orange pushbutton on the top of
the terminal block, insert the wire, and release the pushbutton to
secure the wire. Pull gently on each wire to ensure that it is fully
seated in the terminal block. A pen or small screwdriver may be used
to depress the orange pushbutton.
Each connection will accommodate a single wire. If the existing wir-
ing has two wires on a single terminal, use the adjacent connection
point on the terminal block if equipped. If the provided terminal
block does not provide an adjacent connection point, the assembly
may have spare multipoint terminal blocks that may be used. Other-
wise, existing panel wiring must be modified to accommodate the
unique wiring for your application.
