4. If a man weighs 1.62 kN on the Earth, what would he weigh on another planet, where
the free-fall acceleration is 20.5 m/s2?
5. A block, of mass 3.00 kg, slides down a frictionless plane having an inclination of
𝜃 = 30.0° . The block starts from rest at the top, and the length of the incline is
2.00 m.
(a) Draw a free-body diagram of the block.
Find
(b) the acceleration of the block
(c) its speed when it reaches the bottom of the incline.
𝐹𝑔 cos 𝜃1
𝑇2 =
sin(𝜃1 + 𝜃2 )
7. The distance between two electric poles is 70.0 m. When a 0.75-kg bird lands on the
electric cable midway between the poles, the cable sags 0.150 m.
(a) Draw a free-body diagram of the bird.
(b) How much tension does the bird produce in the wire? Ignore the weight of the
wire.
10. Consider a large truck carrying a heavy load, such as steel beams. A significant
hazard for the driver is that the load may slide forward, crushing the cab, if the truck
stops suddenly in an accident or even in braking. Assume, for example, that a
12 000-kg load sits on the flatbed of a 24 000-kg truck moving at 15.0 m/s. Assume
that the load is not tied down to the truck, but has a coefficient of friction of 0.520
with the flatbed of the truck.
(a) Calculate the minimum stopping distance for which the load will not slide
forward relative to the truck.
(b) Is any piece of data unnecessary for the solution?
