HISTORY OF FLOW PROCESS CHART.
The first structured method for documenting process flow, e.g.
in flow shop scheduling, the flow process chart, was introduced
by Frank and Lillian Gilbreth to members of ASME in 1921 as the presentation
“Process Charts, First Steps in Finding the One Best Way to Do Work”. The
Gilbreths' tools quickly found their way into industrial engineering curricula.
In the early 1930s, an industrial engineer, Allan H. Mogensen began training
business people in the use of some of the tools of industrial engineering at
his Work Simplification Conferences in Lake Placid, New York. A 1944
graduate of Mogensen's class, Art Spinanger, took the tools back to Procter
and Gamble where he developed their Deliberate Methods Change Program.
Another 1944 graduate, Ben S. Graham, Director of Formcraft Engineering
at Standard Register Corporation, adapted the flow process chart to
information processing with his development of the multi-flow process chart
to display multiple documents and their relationships

INTRODUCTION OF FLOW PROCESS CHART.
Flowchart is a graphical representation of an algorithm.
Programmers often use it as a program-planning tool to solve a problem. It
makes use of symbols which are connected among them to indicate the
flow of information and processing.
The process of drawing a flowchart for an algorithm is known as
“flowcharting”.
SYMBOLS OF FLOW PROCESS CHART.
In 1947, ASME adopted the following symbol set derived from
Gilbreth's original work as the ASME Standard for Process Chart
Symbol Letter Description
Ο O Operation
Ỻ I Inspection
→ M Transport
D D Delay
∇ S Storage
6
Ο OPERATION: To change the physical or chemical
characteristics of the material.
Ỻ INSPECTION: To check the quality or the quantity of
the material.
→ TRANSPORT: Transporting the material from one place
to another
D DELAY: When material cannot go to the next activity.
∇ STORAGE: When the material is kept in a safe location.

Guidelines For Making A Flow Process
Chart
All the facts must be correctly recorded.
The details must be obtained by direct observation—charts must
not be based on memory
No assumptions should be made.
Make it easy for future reference.
All charts must have the following details:
(a) Name of the product, material or equipment that is observed.
(b) Starting point and ending point.
(c) The location where the activities take place.
(d) The chart reference number, sheet number and number
of total sheets.
Key to the symbols used must be stated

WHY WE USE FLOW PROCESS CHART?
As a business owner, you should always be striving to improve the
efficiency of your workplace, so you should welcome any tool or resource
that helps you accomplish that task. Streamlining the processes within your
business can also help your staff increase its productivity, and more
productivity means more sales. One tool to consider is a flowchart, which is
a pictorial or graphical representation of a process. The uses of flowcharts
are numerous in industries, such as entertainment, engineering, physical
sciences, and computer programming. The purpose of flowcharts are to
communicate how a process works or should work without any confusing
technical jargon. Understanding the major uses of flowcharts can help your
business run at peak levels.
TYPE OF FLOW PROCESS CHARTS
1. Man/ Worker type flow process chart
This flow process chart records what the worker does.
2. Material type flow process chart
This flow process chart record how the material is handled
or treated.
3. Equipment type flow process chart
This flow process chart records how the equipment or machine is
used.

INTRODUCTION OF VIKAS MILK FEDERATION
Established in 1971,'JALGAON JILHA SAHAKARI DUDH UTPADAK SANGH MARYADIT,
JALGAON' was a bold step taken to free the farmers and consumers alike from the
clutches and unethical business practices of private vendors/traders in the district.
Very soon, 'VIKAS' as it is popularly known, embarked upon a journey of remarkable
milestones. Clean and hygienic milk procurement and processing by means of latest
technology and a wide distribution network have made 'VIKAS' a household brand
name that is synonymous with quality. Our biggest asset is the trust of millions of
households. Not only domestic consumers but also many other co-operatives and
national level organizations throughout India are our regular patrons. The daily milk
handling of 'VIKAS' is about 1.70 lakhs liters and is ever increasing. The various
products of 'VIKAS' are in great demand.

ADVANTAGES OF FLOW PROCESS CHART:
1) Visual Clarity
2) Instant Communication
3) Effective Coordination
4) Efficiency Increase
5) Effective Analysis
6) Problem Solving
7) Proper Documentation
DISADVANTAGES OF FLOW PROCESS CHART:
1) Manual tracing is needed to check correctness of flowchart drawn on paper.
2) Simple modification in problem logic may leads to complete redraw of
flowchart.
3) Showing many branches and looping in flowchart is difficult.
4) In case of complex program/algorithm, flowchart becomes very complex and
clumsy.
5) Modification of flowchart is sometimes time consuming.
