a) Condition based maintenance.
b) Safety in Heat Treatments.

d) Design out maintenance.
e) Stress-dependent hazard model.
f) Availability and maintainability.
Q 2. Answer any four parts of the following. 5x4=20
a) Define reliability, its origin and relevance in present industrial scenario.
b) Outline the primary and secondary functions of maintenance department.
c) How would you deal with replacement of items that fails completely and suddenly?
d) What are the key safety measures for arc welding?
e) What can you do to reduce material handling accidents?
f) Define an accident. Discuss the various causes of accidents

Q 3. Answer any two parts of the following. 10x2= 20


a) What do you understand by bathtub curve? Sketch a typical curve and indicate the
distinct failure zones.
b) What is preventive maintenance? When should the preventive maintenance be
carried out? List some advantages of preventive maintenance.
c) A firm is using a machine whose purchase price is Rs. 13,000. The installation
charges amount to Rs. 3600 and the machine has a scrap value of only Rs. 1600
because the firm has a monopoly of this type of work. The maintenance cost in
various years is given as follows:

considerations, assuming that the machine replacement can be done only at the year

conveyors, ropeways and elevators/lifts?

a) What are the precautionary measures that an operator should adopt while working
with lifting equipment’s?
b) Discuss implementation principles of Total Productive Maintenance program.
c) Discuss in brief the guidelines for stocking of special spare parts.
