Introduction
Introduction
This document provides detailed procedures for the installation and
configuration of the software and hardware necessary needed for
wireless transmission of data from the MAC 5000 resting ECG analysis
system to the MUSE CV information system. Once this option is properly
installed and configured, the modem of the MAC 5000 is not used, or
required, in order to transfer and receive data from or to the MUSE
system. To the MAC 5000 user who is transmitting data to the MUSE
system, the functionality of the MobileLink option and the modem option
are the same.
127(
Sending a report from the MUSE system to the MAC 5000 is not
supported by the MobileLink option.
For example, “Press Ctrl + Esc” means to press and hold down the
Ctrl key while pressing the Esc key.
When instructions are given for typing a precise text string with one
or more spaces, the point where the spacebar must be pressed is
indicated as: [Space]. The purpose of the [ ] brackets is to ensure
you press the spacebar when required.
Enter means to press the “Enter” or “Return” key on the keyboard.
Do not type “enter”.
Italicized items are software terms which identify menu items,
buttons, or options in various windows.
Revision History
Each page of the document has the document part number and revision
letter at the bottom of the page. The revision letter changes each time the
document is updated.

connect to the MUSE by hospital IT Dept. information provided by the hospital IT department to make sure that it
system is accurate. Here are some possible factors that could affect
communications:
1. Improper Gateway Address - would not allow proper routing.
2. Improper Subnet Mask information - would not allow enough IP
Addresses or could conflict with routing.
3. Duplicate IP Address - would cause a conflict if another device on
the network has the same address.
4. Incorrect Encryption Key - would not allow the Client Bridge to
associate with the Access Point.
5. Wireless authentication issues - if the hospital has hardware in
place that will not allow the IP Address/MAC Address of the client
bridge to gain access to the wired network.
Although most of these issues should be addressed during the pre-
installation consultation that we provide to the customer, please be
aware that new issues can arise during the installation because of
infrastructure or personnel changes that have taken place.
Incorrect configuration. 1. Verify whether or not the setup was previously working.
2. Check the configuration based on the configuration basics above.
Important factors include the following:
Serial Communication: COM Port, Baud Rate, Stop Bits, etc.
Networking: IP Address and Listening Port.
Modem Setup: Modem number matching CSI Service, CSI
Service properly installed, Modem properly configured.
If the setup was not previously working, you will need to go through
(Continued) the entire setup procedure to configure both sides.

3. Verify whether or not any cart can communicate with the MUSE.
If other carts can transmit via the same access point, the problem
may be with the modem service that is associated with the non-
working cart. Follow the steps in the above Possible Cause for the

If no carts are working from any access point, you should try
restarting all modem services first. If that does not help, you should
verify that MUSE clients are working, since they are using at least
some of the same portion of the wired network.

Glossary
Glossary
10baseT A variant of Ethernet which allows stations to be attached via twisted pair cable.
802.11b (also referred to as 802.11 High Rate or Wi-Fi). An extension to 802.11 that applies to wireless LANs and provides
11 Mbps transmission (with a fallback to 5.5, 2 and 1 Mbps) in the 2.4 GHz band. 802.11b uses only DSSS.
802.11b was a 1999 ratification to the original 802.11 standard, allowing wireless functionality comparable to
Ethernet.
ASCII American Standard Code for Information Interchange. The basis of character sets used in almost all present-
day computers. US-ASCII uses only the lower seven bits (character points 0 to 127) to convey some control
codes, space, numbers, most basic punctuation, and unaccented letters a-z and A-Z.
BNC Bayonet Navy Connector. A connector for coaxial cable such as that used for some video connections and
RG58 “cheapernet” connections. A BNC connector has a bayonet-type shell with two small knobs on the female
connector which lock into spiral slots in the male connector when it is twisted on.
BPSK Binary Phase Shift Keying. A digital frequency modulation technique used for sending data over a coaxial cable
network. This type of modulation is less efficient--but also less susceptible to noise--than similar modulation
techniques, such as QPSK and 64QAM.
DSSS Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum. One of two types of spread spectrum radio, the other being frequency-
hopping spread spectrum. DSSS is a transmission technology used in local area wireless network transmissions
where a data signal at the sending station is combined with a higher data rate bit sequence, or chipping code, that
divides the user data according to a spreading ratio. The chipping code is a redundant bit pattern for each bit that
is transmitted, which increases the signal’s resistance to interference. If one or more bits in the pattern are
damaged during transmission, the original data can be recovered due to the redundancy of the transmission.
EIRP Effective Isotropic Radiated Power. The EIRP is the apparent power transmitted towards the receiver, if it is
assumed that the signal is radiated equally in all directions, such as a spherical wave emanating from a point
source.
FCC Federal Communications Commission. An independent United States government agency, directly responsible
to Congress. The FCC is charged with regulating all non-Federal Government use of the radio spectrum (including
radio and television broadcasting), and all interstate telecommunications (wire, satellite and cable) as well as all
international communications that originate or terminate in the United States. The FCC took over wire
communication regulation from the Interstate Commerce Commission.
IP Address The 32-bit host address defined by the Internet Protocol in STD 5, RFC 791. It is usually represented in dotted
decimal notation.
Mbps megabits per second. Millions of bits per second. A unit of data rate. 1 Mb/s = 1,000,000 bits per second
QPSK Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying. A digital frequency modulation technique used for sending data over coaxial
cable networks. Since it's both easy to implement and fairly resistant to noise, QPSK is used primarily for sending
data from the cable subscriber upstream to the Internet.
SSID Service Set Identifier. A 32-character unique identifier attached to the header of packets sent over a WLAN that
acts as a password when a mobile device tries to connect to the BSS. The SSID differentiates one WLAN from
another, so all access points and all devices attempting to connect to a specific WLAN must use the same SSID.
A device will not be permitted to join the BSS unless it can provide the unique SSID. Because an SSID can be
sniffed in plain text from a packet it does not supply any security to the network.
