*THE COMPETENCY BASED A-LEVEL CURRICULUM*
The National Curriculum Development Center, NCDC, has started to review Advanced level
curriculum and the following are some of the proposals:
1. A-level learners will study two career subjects essential to their admission to university
2. A-level learners will have the liberty to sit for one UNEB paper in the subjects (combination)
they offer per year or all at once
3. A-level learners will study for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years, the five
years are mainly to cater for a learner who will chose to sit for one final paper per year, one may
not be ready to sit for all papers at once, all results will be put together in one transcript for a
Learner to proceed to university
4. A learner who fails to achieve the maximum points to get university admission will only repeat
the subject paper he or she failed.
5. A learner will study one occupational subject, this will be assessed by the Directorate of
Industrial Training, D.I.T
6. Contemporary Studies will be introduced to replace General Studies, therefore a Learner will
write the Contemporary Studies Paper, replacing General Paper.
7. A-level learners will be continuously assessed, and this assessment will contribute 20% to
their final UNEB exams score.
8. The Advanced Level Curriculum also has the following proposed New subjects:
i) Accounting
ii) Physical Education (P.E)
iii) Information Computer Technology (ICT)
If all goes as planned, the above are set to be implemented in 2025,
