Exercise 1: Design materials handling equipment for movement the motor
housing from Manufacturing department to Assembly department. (Name
of equipment, the operation of equipment) Name of equipment: The motor housing These are some examples of materials handling equipment that could be used for moving motor housings from the manufacturing department to assembly department: - A motorized material handling vehicle is a battery-powered cart that can transport heavy loads with ease and efficiency. It has a low-deck platform that allows for easy loading and unloading of motor housings, and it can be recharged using a common 110V outlet. It also has durable tires that can withstand sharp metal shards and other debris. A motorized material handling vehicle can be used to move motor housings from one department to another without requiring much manual labor or physical strength.
- A monorail system is a type of overhead conveyor that uses a single rail
to suspend and move motor housings along a predefined path. It can be customized to fit the layout and requirements of the manufacturing and assembly departments, and it can handle various speeds and capacities. A monorail system can provide fast and continuous transport of motor housings without taking up floor space or interfering with other operations. - A lift truck is a vehicle that has forks or other attachments that can lift, lower, and move motor housings on pallets or other platforms. It can be powered by electricity, gas, diesel, or propane and operate in narrow aisles or tight spaces. A lift truck can load and unload motor housings from trucks or storage racks and transfer them between different departments.

Drinking water bottles from production factory to the supermarket (Name of equipment, the operation of equipment) - Conveyor: First, automated machines place the drinking water bottles onto the conveyor. The finished drinking water bottles will be loaded onto the conveyor system at an infeed station located in the manufacturing facility. Then, the bottles are transported via a continuous conveyor belt. To maintain cleanliness and safety, the conveyor might be manufactured of materials suitable for use in food. - - Packaging equipment: a system that makes sure the bottles are positioned correctly for packaging can be built into the conveyor depending on the shape and design of the bottles. Next, a quality check station might be positioned along the conveyor path. Here, automated sensors can inspect the bottles for any defects or contamination. Additionally, the bottles can be routed to the packaging section at the end of the conveyor belt. Some bottles are packed directly into suitable cartons. Others are packaged in batches of about 6 bottles. The packaging processes are all carried out using automatic packaging machines (robots). It determines the given quantity and arranges the bottles in the correct position in the cartons. - - Forklifts, conveyor systems, or other equipment: they can load the bottled water onto trucks or other transport vehicles for delivery to the supermarket. - - Transport vehicles: such as trucks or other vehicles are fully equipped and meet the conditions for storage and safety of products on the way to the supermarket. - - At the supermarket, a set of conveyor and forklift systems can be used to unload the bottles from the delivery vehicles and place them in the store's storage area or directly on shelves for customer access.
