Teachers Activity Students Activity/responses

Good morning class!
Good morning Ma’am
May I ask Acenas to lead the prayer?
Acenas led the prayer.
Before anything else, I would like to introduce
myself. I am Kristine Casey Kaye Empron Bebis and
I will be your Mathematics Teacher for today.

Is there absent for today class?

No ma’am.
Since there is no absent. I want to inform you the
class rules. First, wear your facemask for safety
purposes, second, be respectful, if someone’s
talking please keep quiet and listen, third, be
participative and last, raise your hand if you want
to answer or say something about our topic for
today.

Are we all clear class?

Yes ma’am.
A. Drill

Listen class, I want you to group into two. Count 1

and 2. Group 1 on the right side and Group 2 on
the left side. Choose a representative to do the
rock, paper, scissor, shoot and then the winning
group will choose if they want to go first or not.

Did you get it class?

Yes ma’am.
Are you familiar with Four Pics, One Word game?
Yes ma’am.
4 Pics 1 Word is a word guessing game. It
presents you with four pictures and then tasks
you with guessing what specific word fits with the
theme of the photos presented. In determining
the winner, whoever team who can get the least
time.

Are you ready class?

Yes ma’am.
So let us start.

BALL AND BEANS

SWEET AND PAINT

CHAIN AND SPELL

RICH AND STINK

SIGN AND DIRTY

Very good class! Congratulations to the winner.

B. Review

To recall your past lesson, may I know what was

your topic yesterday?
Ma’am our topic yesterday was all about
transforms the quadratic function.
Very Good!

So what is quadratic function?

A quadratic function is a polynomial
function with one or more variables in which
the highest exponent of the variable is two.
What is the standard equation of Quadratic
Function?
The standard form of a quadratic function is of
the form f(x) = ax2 + bx + c, where a, b, and c
are real numbers with a ≠ 0.
Very well said class.
C. New Lesson

C.1 Motivation

I have here prepared a set of numbers and I want

you to plot it in the Cartesian Plane.
a. (-1,4) Domain: {-1,0,-3,1}
b. (0,3) Range: {4,3,0}
c. (-3,0) Opens downward
d. (1,0)
After plotting the given sets, identify the domain
and range and if the parabola opens downward or
upward.
Since we are done in activity 2, what do you think
is our topic?
About identifying domain and range ma’am.
Very good.

C.2 Presentation of New Lesson

C.4 Spring Board

A bird is building a nest in a tree 36 feet above the

ground. The bird drops a stick from the nest. The
function f(x) = -16x2 + 36 describes the height of the
stick in feet after x seconds. The graph of this function
is shown below. Identify the domain and range of this
function using the drag and drop activity below.
C.5 Intellectual Discussion

All right class can you read again the word

problem?
A bird is building a nest in a tree 36 feet above
the ground. The bird drops a stick from the
nest. The function f(x) = -16x2 + 36 describes
the height of the stick in feet after x seconds.
The graph of this function is shown below.
Identify the domain and range of this function
using the drag and drop activity below.
Alright, very good.
Class, what is being asked in the problem?
Acenas raised his hand.
Yes, Acenas?
Ma’am the problem is to find the domain and
range.
Very good, Acenas.

So what is the given in the problem?

Richard raised his hand.
Yes Richard?
Ma’am the given in the problem are 36 feet
above and a function f(x) = -16x2 + 36.
Yes, excellent Richard.

C. 6 Aesthetic Discussion

Domain of Quadratic Function

A quadratic function is a polynomial function that

is defined for all real values of x. So, the domain of
a quadratic function is the set of real numbers,
that is, R. In interval notation, the domain of any
quadratic function is (-∞, ∞).

Range of Quadratic Function

The range of the quadratic function depends on

the graph's opening side and vertex. So, look for
the lowermost and uppermost f(x) values on the
graph of the function to determine the range of
the quadratic function. The range of any quadratic
function with vertex (h, k) and the equation f(x) =
a(x - h)2 + k is:
y ≥ k (or) *k, ∞) when a > 0 (as the parabola opens
up when a > 0).
y ≤ k (or) (-∞, k+ when a < 0 (as the parabola
opens down when a < 0).

To get the value of k, we have the equation

Let’s go back to our word problem. Since the

graph is given, we can easily identify the domain
and range. We all know that domain is the value
of x and based on our graph our domain is 1.5 and
we can express it 0 ≤ x ≤ 1.5, while our range is the
y value and based on the graph we have 36 or 0 ≤
y ≤ 36.

Did you get it class?

Yes ma’am.
So let us have an example.

Example:

Example 2. f(x)=2x2-4x+5, find the domain and

range.

Domain: ,x │ x Є R- or (-∞, ∞).

Range: ,y │ y 3} or
a>0 and ,

Example 3. f(x)= -x2-6x+3, find the domain and

range.

Domain: ,x │ x Є R- or (-∞, ∞).

Range: ,y │ y 12} or
a<0 and ,
C.7 Generalization

Any question about getting the value of domain

and range?
None so far ma’am.
Any clarification class?
None ma’am.
Since you don’t have any questions, I will be the
one to ask.

In your own words, how will you define domain

and range?
Domain is the value of x and it is all real
numbers while range is the value of y.
Very good class.

C.8 Application

To deepen your understanding I have here

another group activity. With the same group I
want you to identify the domain and range in a
given graph and in a quadratic equation. After
answering, two members will explain the answer
in the given graph and in a quadratic equation.

Are we clear class?

Yes ma’am.
I have here the rubrics:

Speed = 25%
Accuracy= 25%
Team work= 10%
Explanation= 40%

Group 1.

You have a ten question test. Your teacher Domain : ,0,1,2,…,10-

decided to curve your grade, so everyone receives Range: ,15,25,35,…,115-
a 15 point bonus. If your score is a function of the
number of questions you get correct, find the
domain and range. Assume there is no partial
credit.
Group 2
Domain: ,0,1,2,…,50-
A concert venue holds 50 people. Each ticket cost Range: ,0,15,30,…,750-
$15, and a function can be written that describes
the total income of the venue as a function of the
number of tickets sold. Find the domain and
range.

C.9 Valuing

How can you relate or apply domain and range in

real life situation?
Richard raised his hand.
Yes Richard.
As a future teacher, domain and range is used
in real life to make mathematical calculations.
For example, if a function were to describe the
GPA of students, there is a strict lower bound
on the range (0) and some upper limit that is
based on the school or grading system being
studied.
Very good Richard.
Is there another answer?
Mia raised her hand.
Yes Millagracia.
In range ma’am, it can be used to calculate the
amount of time that has passed, like when
calculating your age. For example ma’am, the
current year is 2022, and I was born in 2005.
Then I am 17 years old ma’am.
Very good Millagracia.

I want you to get ¼ sheet of paper and answer the

following.
