Part 1
Part 1
Part 1
Currently, I’m a senior at FTU, majoring in Business English. I have been studying
there for 3 years and I will graduate in a few months.
2. What subject (major) are you studying?
Well, as the name suggests, currently I am studying Business English. In addition, I am
also majoring in International Business.
3. Why did you choose to study this?
Well, there is a variety of reasons why I decided on Business English. First, I am partial
towards English and I always believe that I was born for English. Therefore, I can
absorb in English very easily. Second, It is well- acknowledged that Business English
will be promising in the future and after my graduation, there will be a guarantee for my
future job hunting, which means I may get a well-paid job. The biggest reason is that my
brother-in law is a successful businessman and I plan to follow his footsteps if possible.
4. Do you like your university?
Of course, I always say that I am so lucky to study at FTU. Compared with other
countries, FTU has a more dynamic environment because there are a lot of activities to
connect students. So, we are always in high spirit when we go to school.
5. Is there anything you don’t like about your uni?
Basically, everything is fine. But facilities in the class such as: digital projectors or
microphones are sometimes out of order/go wrong
6. 6. Which subject do you don’t like most?
Well, it must be math. For some reasons, math comes very hard to me. I always find it difficult to deal with
numbers , so I always have butterflies in my stomach before Math classes.
8. 8. Which school subject do you think is most useful for people in adult life?
Well, any subject having to do with communication such as: effective speaking in a meeting or how to make an
impressive presentation would help for adults as people’s skills are enhanced.
1
Well, The worst I have to say about my job is that some students are sometimes headstrong. Therefore, I am
stressful to keep my temper when dealing with them.
12. 12. Why did you choose to attend your university/school (instead of choosing
another one)
I think that I chose FTU because of it has been one of top-flight universities in VN up to now. It has a
reputation for giving birth to many top CEOs, top managers and experts. For that reason, I wanted to get a
place there.
Part 1
Name:
It is my parents that gave me my name. Dat means success and I
guess they wanted me to be highly successful in the future. You see,
They put a lot of presson on my shoulder
2. don’t want because it is unique
3. pay attention to their names bring sb good fortune/luck
4. be named after to escalate the ladder of success
5. look on the bright side
Accomodation
Mobile phone is my first priority because without it, I would not keep in touch with
people in case of urgency. It can also serve as an entertainment tool to kill time if I have
to wait for someone else.
SHOES
1. Do you like shoes?
In all honesty, I am quite into shoes/shoes are my cup of tea. To be specific, I am a huge
fan of Nike. I get a lot of satisfaction whenever I wear them.
3
2. Which do you prefer, comfortable ones or fashionable ones?
Off the top of my head, I would go for/have a preference for fashionable shoes. I guess
the prominent reason is that I am a slave to fashion and therefore, I always want to keep
up with the trend.
Certainly yes. I guess the reason is that pricey shoes are mostly well-made and
therefore, they can give consumers a sense of satisfaction. Another reason worth
mentioning is that everyone wants to be the center of attention,/ the life and soul of the
party, so those shoes can make them stand out from the crowd.
TELEVISION
1. Did you often watch television when you were a child?
To be honest, I used to watch television/ the box when I was a little kid. Thanks to
television programs, I can broaden my horizon/ enrich my knowledge/ accumulate /gain/
acquire knowledge
Morever, news coverage also kept me informed of affairs around the world.
In the past, I was a huge fan of cartoons, but nowadays, my first priority is some reality
shows. They give us a lot of laughter whenever I sit in front of TV.
HOUSEWORK
Certainly yes. There are a lot of benefits doing housework can offer. The greatest
benefit is that It can let your hair down after an exhausting day. Moreover, it gives you a
sense of responsibility to your home and forge/foster/maintain the bonds with other
members in your family.
When I was a little kid, I used to do chores such as sweeping the floor or cleaning. I was
advised to give a hand to my parents by doing some simple things like that no matter
how tedious it was./ although I didn’t like it from the bottom of my heart.
Yes, doing chores can give children a variety of lessons. Because some chores are
repetitive, so children can know how to be patient which contributes to the success in
the future. The second advantage is that children see themselves as important
contributors to the family, so they will develop a sense of responsibility to the family.
DREAM
Yes, it is my pleasure to have the chance to hear my buddies talk about their dreams,
which usually contain a lot of mysteries. To be honest, this is the best way to wind down
after an exhausting day.
I believe that dreams have a profound effect on social life, especially on emotional well
being. They can affect our mood for the following day. A good example is that if you
experience a nightmare, you will be emotionally unstable because of fears. Some people
consider dreams as a guide to our behavior. They will do as dreams suggest.
Have significance
Your dreams can be affected by many things: what you ate for supper, or even lunch or
breakfast; what images you put into your mind -- from TV or video or conversation,
especially arguments -- before bedtime; problems you are facing; your relationships with
5
parents, other relatives, friends, and love interests; your hopes and aspirations; your
basic beliefs; communications during the day or recent past; long past events from your
childhood; plans for the future, such as going away to college or getting a job; and a host
of other things
On the flip-side
In all honesty, Dreams are not my cup of tea. My priority is that English because I have
an aptitude for studying English. English acts/serves as a tool for me to earn a living,
unlike dreams.
HISTORY
Definitely yes. History is my cup of tea Because history is of great importance to us.
Thanks to history, we can draw on experience of the previous generation to follow in
their footsteps or avoid a dead-end.
I suppose, my answer is the victory of August revolution in 1945. The reason is that it
made a milestone in my country’s history, putting an end to being colonized by some
giant countries.
Of course. It is undeniable that history plays a crucial role. Firstly, we can draw lessons
from past events to correct our current events. Moreover, learning history can boost a
sense of patriotism among children, so they will feel it responsible to be committed to
the development of the country.
Yes. In the past, I am a huge fan of history programmes on TV. Watching such
programmes gives me an insight into historical events in order to impart knowledge to
the next generation. I suppose these programmes acts as a bridge between the previous
generation and the following generation. (Moreover, These programmes also broaden
our horizon…)
6
It goes without saying that There is a wide range of channels to obtain/gain
information and in my case, I usually make use of some videos posted on Facebook
because of the acceleration of technology.
LEISURE TIME
1. When do you have free time?
Well, I suppose free time is essential as oxygen is in our life. The reason is that we can
achieve a balance between work and hobbies. Without free time, we would be under
intense stress, which can contribute to mental and physical disorders.
3. How does the way Vietnamese people like to relax compared with the Western
countries?
There is a striking difference in the way Vietnamese people wind down in comparison
with Western people. Vietnamese people have a tendency to spend time with their
family members because they attach great importance to their home while Western
people have an inclination to make a flying visit to somewhere, I guess.
Of course yes. I have got some close friends and they pay a visit to my home from time
to time. Whenever they come around, we throw a party as a rule.
MIRROR
1. Do you often look at yourself in the mirror?
7
Of course not. I got a big/full-length mirror in the room when I first moved in. Another
reason is that in Viet Nam, people hold the notion that women are in charge of shopping
for mirror.
Certainly yes. Mirrors play a pivotal role in social life. In some regions in VietNam,
people hang mirrors at the door to bring the owner luck/ bring luck to the owner.
( fortune)
4. Have you ever bought some items without looking in the mirror
Certainly yes. There is no black or white answer for this question. It is up to the items I
shop for. For instance, if I buy a mobile phone, looking it in the mirror will be very
weird.
SPORTS
1. What sports do you like?
There is a wide range of sports gaining in popularity in Vietnam nowadays, but I guess
the most prominent is football, which is considered the king of all games and taking the
second place is basketball.
No. The distinction in muscle between two genders determines what kind of sports they
play. Men have a knack for sports requiring stamina to test their limits while women
excel in some sports related to aesthetics like: aerobics.
It depends on personal taste of children. Some children have a preference for extreme
sports in order to challenge themselves or conquer the challenges or even boost their
confidence. However, some children would rather to take part in some usual sports like
football or basketball.
8
5. Where do VietNAmese people usually exercise?
There is a wide variety of places where people can do exercise, ranging from fitness
centers to parks. But I guess the most prominent place may be fitness centers, which
offers high quality service and cutting-edge equipment/facilities to meet the
requirements from users.
The frequency of doing exercise is closely linked to your emotional and physical
well-being. The more you exercise, the more healthy you will be.
SWIMMING POOL
1. Do you like swimming?
Yes. I have to say to you that swimming/taking a dip is my cup of tea. There is a wide
range of benefits swimming can offer. It can help me release my pressure and also
recharge my battery as well.
I guess it may sound strange to you that there is a wide range of places where I can
swim in my city such as swimming pool, river, not to mention parks…However, I
usually go to swimming pool because there is one which is just a stone’s throwaway
from my house.
5, What is the difference between swimming pool in the pool and swimming in the sea?
There is a striking distinction between…. I think you will agree with me that swimming
in the pool is much safer than in the sea because of the presence of safeguards in case of
being drowned/emergency.
PATIENCE
9
1. What do you think of patience?
Well,I guess you will agree with me that patience is the state of endurance under
difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay without acting
on negative annoyance/anger
Patience is a precondition for success because in face of many obstacles, you need to
make a continuous effort to achieve success. Without patience, you couldn’t do that.
To be honest, I haven’t thought about this matter before because it gave me so much
food for thought. In my opinion, my answer is no. It is said that being patient and being
polite walk hand in hand.
Yes, I am. I find it easy to keep my temper in face of failure or adversities. You may not
probably know that I was taught by my mother that patience is the key to success.
Yes. When I was a little kid, I used to give up my effort or put the blame on other
people when everything went wrong. That’s why I was isolated by my friends at that
time.
Patience is a must because it is pre-requisite for success. For this reason, people have to
have a persevering attitude/ make an endless effort to overcome the obstacles that
impede your way to success.
10
8. Are people now less patient than people in the past? Why?
I couldn’t agree with you more. The reasons why People are not as patient as they do in
the past vary. The main reason is that people have to shoulder a lot of burdens at the
same time, so they easily see red when adversities occur.
WEATHER
1. What’s the weather like today?
The weather today is very pleasant. The sun is shining, so it would be fantastic to laze
around the beach or soak up the sunshine.
It’s quite changeable. We have periods of time with clear blue skies and all of a
sudden,we will have torrential rain. That’s why we keep the habit of bring along
raincoats whenever we go out.
I guess spring is my answer because in spring, many flowers come out this period of
time but the prominent reason is that the weather is very pleasant/conformtable, not
scorching hot, not freezing cold.
It depend on my mood. When I feel blue, I would like to lay in bed listening to the rain
beat down on metal roof. However, If I feel like going out, the weather must be very
nice.
To be honest, I can’t stand being caught in the rain, so my ideal weather is that the sun
is shining.
To be honest, I am a huge fan of snow, so I couldn’t help standing still when snow is
falling. I have a burning desire of playing in the snow because in VietNam, snow takes
place/occurs once in a blue moon.
Yes, I am in the habit of staying up to date with weather predictions in order to schedule
my work. Basically, I usually acquire such information from watching the box.
11
7. Does the weather affect what you do?
Yes, My job involves travelling a lot from region to region. Therefore, the weather has
a profound effect on the success of my job. If it rains cats and dogs, we have to put off or
even cancel our project until it clears up.
RAINING
Well, I’m sure you know right away that Vietnam is a tropical country, therefore,
Vietnam usually receives a great amount of precipitation every year.
To tell you the truth, I have no clue about this. I don’t have a knack for geography, so I
don’t have a in-depth understanding of the amount of rain. But if I have to make guess,
down south there is less rain.
To the best of my knowledge, May experiences the highest proportion of rain. I guess
the reason is that this period of time is in the middle of summer when monsoon brings
moist air from the ocean to the land.
Can you remember any time when it rained particularly heavily in your
hometown?
That would be last summer. I was going to work and then all of a sudden it started to
rain, followed by a deluge. I was soaked to the skin and couldn’t attend a very important
meeting.
12
VISITORS
Welcome>< treat somebody like dirt/give them a cold
shoulder
1. Do you welcome guests in your house?
Needless to say, welcoming anyone to your home is a rule in our code of conduct. It is
mainly because many people believe that when you show your hospitality towards
visitors, they will bring your home luck in return.
To tell you the truth, many people find it inconvenient to pay a visit to my home
because of the run-down system of infrastructure. I think it is a barrier to get access to
my location.
I guess it may sound strange to you that you will get the loyal treatment when you
drop in on one’s house in VN
HAND WRITING
Well, to be honest, I am afraid of putting pen to paper because it gives me so much food
for thought. So, If you ask me about frequency, my answer would be once in a blue
moon.
Basically, there are a couple of occasions when you have to write by hand, but the most
common occasion is that when you have to express your sincere gratitude towards
somebody for giving you a hand or holding your hand through tough times.
13
If I were to take a pick, I would go for typing. The first reason is that data can’t be lost
by a dust of wind. The second reason worth mentioning is that I can easily send out the
files to someone else through e-mail. Finally, typing is gaining popular because you
don’t have to spending time to lay out your paper.
4. What’s the difference handwriting and typing when you write to others?
There is a marked distinction between … and typing, but I guess that handwriting can
stimulate your creativity because you can design your content to be impressive while
there is little chance of demonstrating your talent when you type.
5.

3. TIGHTEN MY BELT

9. GO FOR A SONG
