Introduction
RockWorks is a powerful geological modeling software widely used in mining,
environmental, and geological applications. Locating drillholes accurately is essential for data visualization, analysis, and resource estimation.
Objective To create a borehole map with Rockworks.
Steps to Locate Drillholes in RockWorks
1. Creating a New Project: o Open RockWorks and create a new project. This will be the workspace for drillhole data and analysis. o Save project regularly to prevent data loss. 2. Importing Data: o File Formats: Ensure that drillhole data is in a compatible format (e.g., CSV, Excel, or RockWorks native format). o Data Requirements: Dataset should include coordinates (X, Y, Z), depth, and any other relevant attributes (e.g., lithology, assay results).
3. Importing Drillhole Data:
o Select the "File" menu and select “Import” to bring in drillhole data. o Choose the appropriate import method (e.g., import from file) and follow the prompts to load data into the project. 4. Setting Up the Drillhole Database: o After importing, check the drillhole database to ensure all data points are correctly loaded. o Validate the coordinates and ensure there are no duplicates or errors in the dataset. 5. Visualizing Drillholes: o 2D Plan View: Go to the "Map" tools to create a 2D plan view. This allows to visualize drillhole locations on a map.
6. Locating Specific Drillholes:
o Use the “Locate Drillholes” function to find specific holes based on coordinates or other attributes. o Drillholes can be filtered or searched by depth, type, or any additional data attributes that have been included. 7. Exporting Results: o Once you have located and visualized the drillholes, you may want to export your maps or sections. o Use the export options to save your visualizations in formats suitable for reports or presentations (e.g., PDF, images). Conclusion Using RockWorks to locate drillholes involves importing data, setting up a database, and utilizing the software’s visualization tools. This process not only aids in locating drillholes but also enhances geological analysis and resource evaluation. Regularly update and validate your data for the most accurate results.
