1. The Basics
1.1 What is a Professor Oak Challenge?
As you all may know, Professor Oak had a dream to fill the pokedex. So the challenge
consists in completing the pokedex as much as you possibly can before challenging the
Gym Leader. Catch, evolve and breed as many pokemon as possible.
The basic rules for this challenge are:
● You have to catch and evolve (or breed) as many pokemon as possible
in the game until you can’t proceed any further until a gym badge is
required.
● You can not trade with other versions, but in-game trades are allowed.
● No glitches are allowed.
2. The Guide

Swarms:
Shadow base -
The story begins with you being kidnapped by Hoopa into an evil team base. After some
walk, you’ll meet with your rival and then your first choice to make:
After a battle with a grunt, you’ll get out of Shadow Base and arrive at Fronzen Heights.
Frozen Heights -
Arriving here you’ll have a battle with your rival. After that you’ll have to do some story
events. Talk to your mom and prof. Log. After talking to the professor, head south to
Bellin Town, enter the market and battle (or not) the grunt. Follow him back to Frozen
Heights and go north. There you will have a battle, and after winning, go see the
professor again. He will give you the pokedex and some pokeballs. You have nothing to
catch here, so go straight to Route 1
Route 1 -
Here you can catch Snorunt, Vanillite, Delibird and Minior. With this you can go to
Bellin Town.
Bellin Town -
After getting the pokedex, head to the man in the south-east portion of the town, he’ll
give you a pokemon (based on your ID number). All three will be available later, but in
order to have more entries in your pokedex later, you have to reset the game until you get
Stunky, since it’s obtainable later than the other two. You can have the other two if you
want, it’s up to you. After that, go to the house at the top right. There you can talk to the
man and he'll give you one mission that will open a new area, so don't forget it.
In the house at the lower portion there is a man who’ll give you five Heal Balls. Once a
day, if you talk to the man at the entrance of the Icicle Cave you can rewatch the catching
tutorial and he will reward you with a Quick Ball.
Icicle Cave -
Here you can find Zubat, Makuhita, Spheal, Smoochum, Bergmite, Roggenrola and
Swinub. After getting the mission in Belling Town, an Alolan Sandslash will open a new
cave. with new pokemon. In this new area you can find Drilbur and Mawile. If you
continue through this new area you can find some patch of grass where you can find
Alolan Sandshrew. Make sure you caught two, one of them for a trade later on. After this
you can go back to the cave and head to Route 2.
No Gigalith since no Link Stone and no Alolan Sandslash since no Ice Stone. No
Mamoswine since we don't have access to a move relearner yet.
Route 2 -
This is the first route where there is difference in pokemon find during the day and the
night. During the day you can find Minccino, Inkay, Pikipek, Patrat, Electrike, Azurill,
Stufful, Scraggy, and Riolu. During the night you can also find Hoothoot and Rattata. In
this route there is also the first swarm pokemon of the section, Poochyena. If you beat all
trainers on this route and talk to the guy on the beach, you’ll get a Litleo.
● Minccino
● Inkay -> Lv. 30 -> Malamar
● Pikipek -> Lv. 14 -> Trumbeak -> Lv. 28 -> Toucannon

● Rattata -> Lv. 20 -> Raticate
● Poochyena -> Lv. 18 -> Mightyena
● Litleo -> Lv. 35 -> Pyroar
You don't need to evolve Budew since you can catch Roselia later in this section.
Dresco Town -
In this town there are three important things to do. The first is the trade of Alolan
Sandshrew for a Ducklett in one of the houses on the left side of the city. If you show a
baby pokemon (Riolu or Azurill) to the woman on the left side of the house you just
traded, she’ll give you the soothe bell. Then head left towards Route 4 and a scientist will
stop you and tell you about the Zygarde Cells and with this you can finally see them. You
can backtrack them, but since you can only find 8, you can do it in the next section.
Route 3 -
In this route you can get Wingull, Bidoof, Slowpoke, Shellos, Buizel, Poliwag, Cherubi
(day), Dewpider (day) and Surskit (night). By swar you can find Sentret. Make sure you
get one male and one female. You can also find it as a static encounter on Mondays and
Tuesdays, Sandygast.
Flower Paradise -
In this area you can find Flabébé, Cutiefly, Oricorio, Combee, Comfey, Pansage (pink
flowers), Panpour (blue flowers) and Pansear (red flowers). Make sure to bring a
pokemon with the move Covet, like Rattata/Smoochum, since the elemental monkeys

a Unova Starter of your choice. You can get the other ones later as you get more badges.
Crater Town -
First thing to do is go to the Pokemon Center. There you will find a bookshelf.
Interacting with it will reveal a place where there is a static Clefairy. This respawn daily,
but make sure to save before interacting with it to get one holding a Moon Stone. In this
town you can also find the Move Reminder. Another important thing to do is start the
mission on the southeast house. You will get a Bicycle for completing it.
KBT Expressway -
This expressway connects all the cities in Borrius, so it's good to go through it for fast
traveling while we don't have Fly. Here you’ll have the Bicycle mission started in Crater
Town. You can also find Aron, Nosepass and Noibat. You can also find a miner who lets
you mine for all evolution stones and heart scales, so be prepared to spend some time
here. After getting a heart scale go back to the Move Reminder and make Piloswine learn
ancient power and level it up.
Dresco Town -
By now you should have at least 10 Zygarde Cells, so take the KBT and go back to
Dresco Town. Talk to the lady scientist in the house and get your 10% Zygarde. Yes, one
badge and we already got a Legendary. Not the strongest, but a Legendary nonetheless.

3. The End/Thanks
I usually play a pokemon game catching and evolving only the pokemon I would use on
my team. But after seeing Johnstone and ChaoticMeatball doing this challenge inspired
me to do the same. So a huge thanks to them. I would also like to thank Reddit user
Mewlax84. I read all his POC guides and felt like doing one myself. And last, a special
thanks to Skeli and his team for creating this wonderful game!
If you would like to add any comments/thoughts/advice on improving this guide, please
drop me a message on Reddit u/BrFScan.
Until next!
