Scope: Louisiana law provides for the issuance of public and private high school license plates.
This license plate can be issued to private passenger automobiles, vans, private trucks up to
16,000 lbs., and motor homes.

Eligibility:
 Any citizen of Louisiana can be issued, upon application, a high school license plate.

Requirements:
 One of the following is required:
o A photocopy of the registration certificate of the vehicle on which the plate will be
placed if the vehicle is currently registered in applicant's name.
o If the vehicle is not registered, proper title documentation and fees must be submitted
along with the request for the license plate.

Fees:
 $25.00 - One-time royalty fee or $25.00 annual royalty fee (see charts below), in addition to
regular registration fees
 $8.00 - Handling fee on all transactions, except renewals
 $3.50 - Administrative handling fee, due only on initial issuance
 $3.00 - Transfer fee, to transfer the plate to another vehicle in the applicant's name

Notes:
 Plates may be transferred from one vehicle in applicant's name to another vehicle in
applicant's name, but cannot be transferred between owners.
 Based on availability, plates may be issued through any Motor Vehicle office or public tag
agent location.
 Renewal transactions can be processed by any motor vehicle office or public tag agent
 location.

* The royalty fee is collected annually and will be calculated based on the term of the plate. (i.e. plates issued for two
years will be assessed $50.00 in addition to regular plate fees upon initial issuance and at time of renewal).
