Department of Communication Engineering, National Central University

April 14, 2023, Prof. Dah-Chung Chang (E1-311)

1. (25%) Consider the following instrumentation

amplifier.
(a) Assume that R4 / R3 = R6 / R5 . Find vO in
relation of v I 1 and v I 2 . (10%)
(b) Assume that R2 / R1 = 1 , R4 / R3 = 10 ,
and R6 / R5 = 12 . Determine CMRR(dB). (15%)

2. (25%) Let the semiconductor parameter for the transistor be VT = 0.026V . Derive the
following result

v R 
vO = 0.4329 ln  2 1  .

3. (20%) The output of the voltage reference circuit is 10V. Use a Zener diode with a
breakdown voltage of 6V. Assume that the Zener diode is biased at the current range of 1 mA
to 1.5mA and the PN diode cut-in voltage is 0.6V. The resistor parameters
are R3 = 10 K and R4 = 30 K .
(a) Find the ratio of R2 / R1 and the value of R F . (10%)
(b) Find the possible current values supplied by V S . (10%)

4. (20%)

Determine
(a) the maximum power dissipation in a transistor, with and without the heat sink. (10%)
(b) the temperature of the transistor case and heat sink. (10%)

5. (10%) For the common-emitter output stage shown on the

right, let VCC = 12 V and RL = 1 kΩ. Assume the transistor
Q-point is in the center of the load line. Assume the
sinusoidal output voltage is limited to a 9 V peak-to-peak
value. Determine the power conversion efficiency.
