1. Malin Kundang,
MALIN KUNDANG
Once upon a time there was a story in the fishing village of Air Manis Beach in Padang, West Sumatra.
There was a widow named Mande Rubayah who lived with her son named Malin Kundang.
Mande Rubayah really loved and spoiled Malin Kundang. Malin then grew into a diligent and obedient
child.
When Mande Rubayah was old, he was only able to work as a cake seller to provide for himself and his
only child. One day, Malin fell seriously ill, so that his life almost took off but in the end he was saved
thanks to his mother's hard work.
After recovering from his illness he was loved even more. They are mother and daughter who love each
other.
When Malin was an adult he asked his mother's permission to go abroad to the city, because at that
time there was a large ship docked at Air Manis Beach.
Although with a heavy heart, finally Mande Rubayah allowed Malin to go.
Day after day passed, a day that felt slow for Mande Rubayah. Every morning and evening Mande
Rubayah looks out to sea.
She always prays that her child will always be safe and return quickly. Some time later when a ship came
to dock, he always asked news about his son.
But every time he asked the crew or the captain, he never got an answer. Malin never left any items or
messages with his mother
For years Mande Rubayah kept asking questions but never got an answer until his body got older, and
now his walk started to bend. One day Mande Rubayah received news from the skipper who had
previously brought Malin, the captain gave happy news to Mande Rubayah.
He was sure his son would come. Sure enough, not long after, one sunny day from a distance, a
magnificent and beautiful ship was seen sailing towards the beach.
Mande Rubayah also jostled close to the ship. His heart pounded hard when he saw the young man on
the ship, he was very sure that the young man was his son, Malin Kundang.
Before the village elders had time to welcome, Malin's mother approached Malin first. He immediately
hugged Malin tightly for fear of losing his son again.
Malin was shocked because he was hugged by the old woman who was dressed in rags. Malin Kundang's
wife did not believe that the woman was his mother. Then malin pushed his mother saying the old
woman was not my mother, my mother had died.
Mande Rubayah couldn't believe her daughter's behavior. The old woman was lying on the sand, crying
and hurt. The people who saw him were stunned and then went home. Mande Rubayah fainted and lay
alone. When he realized, Air Manis Beach was deserted.
He saw Malin's ship getting away. She didn't think that Malin, who used to be loved, could do that. His
heart ached and hurt, then his hands were raised to the sky. He then prayed with a heavy heart,
"Yes, God, if he is not my son, I forgive what he did earlier. But if he really is my son named Malin
Kundang, I beg your justice, O God!” he said sadly while crying.
Not long after the weather in the middle of the sea which was sunny, suddenly turned dark. The rain
suddenly fell very heavily.
Suddenly a big storm came, hitting Malin Kundang's ship. Malin was very scared. He does not know what
to do.
Then a thunderous bolt of lightning. At that time the ship was destroyed to pieces. Then carried by the
waves to the beach.
The next day when the morning sun appeared on the eastern horizon, the storm had subsided. On the
beach, you can see pieces of ships that have turned to stone. That's Malin Kundang's ship! Looks like a
rock that resembles a human body.
That was the body of Malin Kundang, the son of an ungodly son who was cursed by his mother to turn
into stone because he had been ungrateful. Between the rocks swam anchovies, mullet and mackerel.
That said, the fish came from the body of the wife who kept looking for Malin Kundang.
The story of the Legend of Malin Kundang has a message that your little one can take, namely to love
your parents in times of trouble and joy, and don't forget the services of your parents who have loved
and educated you since childhood.
