Acquisition of Skills in Applying Effective Teaching Routines Thru Observations

(Series 1)

I. Targets

1.1. Review the previous journal entries from the first observation period up to the present
and highlight those that reflect teaching routines.
1.2. Describe the teaching routines of one (1) Cooperating Teacher, from the start to the end
of the class.
1.3. Identify the best practices observed during the teaching-learning process.
1.4. Detail the learners' behavior during the teaching-learning process, particularly noting
their active participation in the class.

II. Activities

2.1. Review the previous journal entries from the first observation period up to the present.
Use a yellow highlighter to mark those that reflect teaching routines.
2.2. Take pictures of all the pages of your journals from the first day of immersion up to the
present.
2.3. Attach soft copies of the images to Learning Episode 2 for submission via MS Teams.
Ensure the images are in color to clearly show the yellow-highlighted entries. Combine
the LE2 document and attachments into a single MS Word file. There is no need to
include these images in the hard copy submitted to the faculty. The deadline for hard
copies will be announced soon.

III. Reflective Analysis

DIRECTION: Reflect thoughtfully on each question below, providing honest and detailed
responses. Your reflections should help you identify your strengths and areas for growth as
you prepare for student teaching, particularly in understanding teaching routines.

3.1. Based on the highlighted entries in your journals, describe the teaching routines of one
(1) Cooperating Teacher, from the start to the end of the class.

The teaching routines of my cooperating teacher from the start to the end of the class,
when the students enter the classroom and settle down by hearing the bell from my
cooperating teacher they are suddenly quiet and the prayer leader will start to pray, greet
their teacher and classmates, and check their attendance. The first thing that my
cooperating teacher does before he starts the new lesson or continues the lesson is to
recall or recap the previous discussion. He calls some of the students to answer some
questions regarding their previous lesson and if the students did not answer she/he will
remain standing until my cooperating teacher gives another question and she/he will
answer that is the time that he/she can sit down. After doing a recap or recall my
cooperating teacher will introduce the new lesson or continue the lesson, while
discussing the lesson he will call some of the students to read the lesson presented and
he asks some questions to the students about the lesson. He discusses the lesson on
how the students will understand the lesson specially he is a science teacher. In the
lesson it has a science term and he explains it in Filipino so that students can easily
understand what that means. And while discussing he let the students copy the
presented lesson to their notebook as their reviewer for their exam or recitation. After
discussing the lesson he dismissed the students and went to their next class. And they
could not take any quiz because they did not have enough time for the quiz. The 45
minutes time is not enough to conquer all of the details that they wrote in their lesson
plan because in the classroom settings a lot of the students have a different behaviour
and the time spent scolding the students consumes the time, making the 45 minutes is
not enough time to follow the lesson plan.

3.2. Identify the best practices observed during the teaching-learning process.

The best practices that I observe during the teaching learning process, before my
cooperating teacher proceeds to the lesson he is having a recap and while discussing he
has an interaction between the students. In teaching-learning process having an
interaction with your students is important because they will feel that they are belong to
the discussion and sure that they will learn something from my cooperating teacher since
he asking some of the students a question during discussion to know if the students are
listen to his lesson specially he is a science teacher. And before that the first thing that
he does is having a recap or recall to identify what the students learn and if they
understand the discussion yesterday. And after that he will proceed to the new lesson
and while discussing he will call some of the students to read the presented lesson and
call some of the students to answer some questions regarding the new lesson. In this
way he is interacting with the students. And he is a students teacher approach since he
includes the students in every detail that he does inside the classroom.

3.3. Detail the learners' behavior during the teaching-learning process, particularly noting
their active participation in the class.

The behaviour of the learners during the teaching-learning process is not ideal since
some of the students are not behaved specially the students in the back and the male
students. And their teacher, who is my cooperating student, will scold them but it lasts for
2 minutes. After 2 minutes they will do something again so that my cooperating teacher
will discuss the lesson because he will scold the students again. And sometimes the
students are loud and they have their own discussion with their friends that they did not
understand the discussion of their teacher. And their teacher will ring the bell to get the
attention of the students and they will quiet. Also, there are times that all of the students
are quiet and listen to the teacher discussing the lesson. The students are actively
listening to the teacher. In terms of participation in class. They are all participative
because when my cooperating teacher will ask some question and all of them know the
answer they will raise their hand and start calling their teacher “sir” to notice them. From
the start of the class for having a recap when the teacher called the students and he/she
did not know the answer a lot of the students wanted to help the students to answer the
question of the teacher. In this way the students are participative during the
teaching-learning process inside the classroom. Also, it helps that my cooperating
teacher has a student centered. He puts the students first and includes them with the
process, since the students will be his evaluator if he teaches them properly by the
assessment of the students.
