 Identification on the main courses of Electrical Engineering

Department.
 Knowing the general topics for some courses.

 This session is prepared especially for:


 Students in the prep. Year in faculty of engineering.
 Students who have already finished sec. stage and
seeking for a suitable faculty.
 The EE Department is of the departments of faculty of
engineering.
 Any student in the faculty of engineering must choose a
department to study at ( Electrical- Civil- Architecture-
Mechanical- Mechatronics- Mining and Metallurgical ..etc ).
 The EE Department consists of 3 Sections (may be more or
less according to your university), the are : Power &
Machines Section, Communication & Electronics and
Computer & Control.
 The study in the section may start from the first department
year or from the third year (according to the system of your
university).

 This Course talks about the sources of electric fields, types
of charge.
 It contains the important theories about electric fields like
Coulomb's law and faraday’s law.
 This course discuss the main components of the electric
circuits.
 It contains the common theories and laws for solving
electric circuits like ohm’s law, Thevenin’s law and Norton
law.
 In advanced stages, you can study the Laplace Transform
which is one of the most important mathematical methods
for solving the electric circuits.
 In the first stages, the course talks about the properties of
semiconductor materials which is used to manufacture
semiconductor devices.
 After that you will study the main types of semiconductor
devices. Principle of operation of each device and
applications.
 In advanced stages, you will study the transistor with all its
types and applications.
 Studying electronics is considered a gate to a lot of other
courses like: Digital Circuits and power Electronics.
 It takes about the main components of digital circuits like
AND , OR circuits.
 Then you will study more complicated circuits like encoder,
decoder, multiplexer and demultiplexer up to studying flip-
flops.
 You will know the importance of programming in our life.
 You will identify on some common programming languages
like C++ and MATLAB.
 You will know the basic components of any programming
scripts like variables, functions, structures, classes and
pointers.
 You will learn how to write a specific programming scripts
to perform certain functions.
 Studying the basics of magnetic circuits.
 Studying the Basics of DC machines: principle of operation,
properties, types, and applications.
 Then you will study the basics of electric transformers.
 This course contains the laboratory experiments related to
the other courses like electric machines, electronics and
digital circuits
 This course talks about AC machines ( Synchronous and
Induction Machines ) with all types, principle of operation
and applications.
 Also it contains studying special machines.
 This course gives you a definition for the control system, its
components, its importance and mathematical
representation.
 It contains the important theories and methods which talk
about the system stability.
 This course identify you on the main components of any
power system.
 It contains some important topics related to the power
system such as: power factor correction, transmission line
modelling, Per-unit representation of power system, Corona
Discharge …etc
 This course talks about the basics of the control methods
which are done inside the power stations to control the
output power.
 Also it contains the common methods which are done in the
transmission system to control the power flow and voltage.
 This course talks about the Power Flow Analysis which is
done to determine the quantities and direction of electric
power in every part of a certain power system.
 Also it teach you how to analyze the effect of Faults when it
occurs at any position inside the power system.
 This course talks about the effect of disturbances and faults
on the stability of the power system.
 Learn how to improve the power system stability.
 This course talks about the main parts of the distribution
system.
 It contains the main concepts of the distribution system like
demand factor, max. demand and total connected load.
 This course talks about the importance of power
electronics, its characteristics and performance.
 You will learn some power electronic circuits and its
applications like (rectifiers, converters, inverters and
choppers).
 This course will identify you on the basic components of the
protection system.
 Knowing the importance of the protection system.
 Learning the principle of operation for the different types
protection devices.
 Studying examples on different conditions for protection
devices operation.
 This course starts with the definition of classic control.
 It teaches the basic components of the PLC and its
advantages in control systems.
 This course is related to the electric fields course.
 It teaches you the methods of generating high voltage.
 You will study the explanation of the breakdown which
occurs in the insulating materials.
 This course will teach you the concept of power quality and
its importance on the loads.
 It discusses the factors which affect the power quality badly.
 It discusses the methods of improving the power quality.
 This course is related to the power electronics course.
 It teaches you the methods of controlling the electric
machines using the power electronic circuits.
 Mathematics is a very important tool for the electrical
engineer.
 Most of the theories and phenomena have mathematical
expression in addition to the physical explanation.
 Many times the electrical engineer uses the mathematics to
derive expressions which have a physical meaning.
 So usually there are more than one course in the EE
department to study different branches of mathematics.
 This course is related to the Mechanical Engineering
department.
 It explains the cycle of generating from power from steam
power plants and gas power plants.
 You will study the important equations and theories which
will enable you to understand the principle of operation of
air conditioners, car engines, refrigerators and pumps.
 This course is related to the Civil Engineering department.
 You will learn the basics of designing the basic components
like columns and beams.
 You will learn how to make the reinforcement for these
components.
