CATCH-UP FRIDAYS TEACHING GUIDE

I. General Overview
Catch-up Subject: National Reading Program Grade Level: 8

Session Title: Three Branches Subject and (schedule as per existing Class
Time: Program)
II. Session Outline:
Content standard: Learners will proficiently activate prior knowledge, set clear goals for enhanced comprehension,
and adeptly develop diverse reading skills, encompassing vocabulary enrichment and creativity, fostering active
language use and encouraging thoughtful reflection and creative application of newly acquired words during reading
sessions.
Performance Standard The learners will independently read a grade-appropriate text, develop a range of reading
skills, foster a deeper understanding of the text, and demonstrate comprehension by summarizing key points,
identifying main ideas, and making connections and reflections.
Session Title: Three Branches
Session Objectives: 1.Interpret unfamiliar words presented in texts through context clues.
2.Express clear ideas from the written text and reflect from it
3.Utilize acquired knowledge from texts to real-world scenarios, illustrating practical
applications of scientific notions.

A. Preparation and 7:40-8:00
Pre-reading activity: The teacher will start with a brief discussion on the

During reading: The teacher will give copies of the historic-related text/story to
each student. Allow students time to do independent reading of the text/story,
emphasizing the importance of understanding the narrative.

Students are task to answer comprehension questions to measure their learning on
