Name of the Student:

Subject: Physics Year: 4

Unit Motion and Car Safety

Topic Equations of Motion

Criteria A
1. Calculate the distance travelled by a car during a reaction time of 0.40
seconds at the following speeds.
a) 20 m/s
b) 60 Km/h

2. A driver travelling at 20 m/s observes an accident ahead and takes

0.50 seconds to apply the brakes. The brakes slow the car down with an
acceleration of -5.0 m/s². Calculate the total stopping distance of the car.

3. What distance will a car travel while it accelerates from 10 m/s to 20

m/s at an acceleration of 2.0 m/s².

4. An airplane can accelerate from rest at 2.0 m/s². It needs to be

travelling at 60 m/s to take off. The runway is 1000 meters long. Will the
airplane be able to take off before it runs out of runway?

5. A car is initially at rest. It accelerates from rest to 3.0 m/s². How much
time will the car take to travel a distance of 25 meters.

6. A car is initially travelling at 20 m/s. The brakes are applied when the
car is 30 meters from a solid wall. The braes cause an acceleration of –
5.0 m/s² to the car. At what speed will the car be travelling when it hits
the wall.

7. Acceleration Calculation: A car accelerates from rest at a rate of 2

m/s² for 5 seconds. Calculate the final velocity of the car and the
distance it travels during this time.

8. Deceleration Challenge: A cyclist is traveling at 10 m/s and

decelerates at a rate of 2 m/s². How long will it take for the cyclist to
come to a complete stop, and how far will the cyclist travel during this
time?
9. Free Fall Challenge: An object is dropped from a height of 100
meters. Calculate the time it takes to reach the ground and its final
velocity just before hitting the ground.

10. Two-Step Motion: A ball is thrown vertically upward from the ground
with an initial velocity of 20 m/s. Calculate the maximum height it
reaches, the time it takes to reach this height, and the time it takes to
return to the ground.
