Q.3. In a biprism experiment, the distance between the slit and the screen was 1m and the
distance between the images of the slit was 0.274 mm. If the fringe width measured
was 0.2 cm, what must have been the wavelength of the light used?

Q.4. Distinguish between UCM and non UCM.

Q.5. Calculate the rise of water inside a clean glass capillary tube of radius 0.1mm, when
immersed in water of surface tension 0.07 N/m. The angle of contact between water
and glass is zero, density of water = 1000 kg/m2, g = 9.8 m/s2.

Q.6. Using Stefan’s law, obtain the expression for the rate of loss of heat by a blackbody in
cooler surroundings. How is this equation modified if the body is not black?

Q.7. A sample of gas (γ = 1.5) is taken through an adiabatic process in which the volume is
compressed from 1600 cm3 to 400 cm3. If the initial pressure is 150 kPa, what is the
final pressure?

Q.8. State Kirchhoff’s current law and Kirchhoff’s voltage law.

Q.9. The fundamental frequency of a pipe closed at one end is in unison with the third overtone
of an open pipe. Calculate the ratio of their lengths of air column.

Q.10. Find momentum of an electron having de Broglie wavelength of 0.6 0A.

Q.15. A thermodynamic system is taken through cycle abcda.


i.) Calculate the work done by the gas during the parts ab, bc, cd, and da.
ii.) Find the total heat rejected by the gas during the process.

Q.16. Derive an expression of excess pressure inside a liquid drop.
Q.17. State the characteristics of progressive waves.

Q.18. State any three conditions for obtaining well defined and steady Interference pattern with
appropriate reasoning.

Q.19. What is a toroid? Using Ampere’s law, derive an expression for magnetic induction at a
point along the axis of a toroid.

Q.20. The value of mutual inductance of two coils is 10 mH. If the current in one of the coil
changes from 5A to 1A in 0.2 s, calculate the value of emf induced in the other coil. Also
calculate the value of induced charge passing through the coil if its resistance is 5 ohm.

Q.21. A pure inductor of 25 mH is connected to a source of 220 V. Find the inductive reactance
and r.m.s current in the circuit if the frequency of the source is 50 Hz.

Q.22. What is photoelectric effect? State any two peculiar features of the photoelectric effect.

Q.23. Draw and explain phasor diagram for voltage and current in a purely capacitive circuit.

Q.24. Explain the working of full wave rectifier with a neat labelled diagram.

Q.25. Obtain an expression for orbital magnetic moment of an electron rotating about the
nucleus in an atom.

Q.26. The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is doubled when its length is increased by
1.2 m. Calculate its original length and period. [ Take g = 9.8 m/s2 ]

Section D
Attempt any Three: [12]

Q.27. State the theorem of parallel axes and theorem of perpendicular axes.
Coefficient of static friction between a coin and a gramophone disc is 0.5. Radius of the
disc is 8 cm. The centre of the coin is 2 cm away from the centre of the disc. At what
minimum frequency will it start slipping from there? (use g =π2 m/s2)

Q.28. How is the kinetic energy of a gas molecule related with the temperature?
Derive the relation using the kinetic theory of gases.

Q.29. Distinguish between ammeter and voltmeter.


A galvanometer with a coil of resistance 100 ohm gives a full scale deflection for a current
of 50 mA. How will you convert it into an ammeter of range 0 – 5A?

Q.30. State the three postulates of Bohr’s Atomic Model. Define excitation energy.

Q.31. Explain the concept of electric polarisation.


Electrostatic energy of 4.5x10-4 J is stored in a capacitor at 900 V. What is the charge on
the capacitor?
