Course Title: Fundamentals of Project Management


Course Code: MAPM- 621
Credit Hours: 3
Course Description

The use of projects and project management is becoming more and more important for all kinds
of organizations. Businesses regularly use project management to accomplish unique outcomes
under the constraints of resources, and project management turn to be one of essential ways of
achieving an organization’s strategy.

Thus, this course starts with basic definitions of project and project management, characteristics
of projects, differences between projects and programs, between projects and operations, key
actors of project management, the project cycle or stages of project management.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

o Develop a new mind-set all together in their approach to project identification, analysis,
preparation, execution and evaluation.
o Identify key actors of project management for its success
o Identify key projects in their sectors and develop comprehensive project charter or terms
of reference to guide detailed project preparation and proposal writing.
o Conduct the feasibility analysis of the identified projects in light of different
perspectives.
o Design their projects based on a project TOR using the Logical Framework Approach
o Writing winning project funding proposals
o Establish a robust M&E system in their organizations to control proper execution
of projects in consultation with their seniors.

Teaching Methods

Class sessions will typically consist of lectures, discussions, case study analysis, and in class
problem solving. The role of the lectures is to clarify, reinforce, and complement certain aspects
of the reading materials. What this implies is that in order to take full advantage of the lectures,
you must complete the reading assignments before attending class.
