calculate the current through a. R1 b. R2

2. Calculate the potential difference across a. 3 ohm b. 6 ohm. Find out the
total current in the circuit

3. Find out the equivalent resistance and current in the following circuit.
4. The points X and Y are connected to a 10V battery. Calculate
a. equivalent resistance b. current through 8 ohm c. potential difference
across 1 ohm

5. Calculate the equivalent resistance

6. Find out the equivalent resistance of the combination. Calculate the total
current in the circuit if the terminals a and b are connected to a 10V
battery.
7. Calculate the number of electrons constituting one coulomb of charge.
8. A given length of wire is doubled on itself and this process is repeated once
again. By what factor does the resistance of the wire change?
9. Two students perform experiments on two given resistors R1 and R2 and
plot the V- I graph shown by diagram 1 and 2. If R1 > R2 Which of the two
diagrams correctly represent the situation on the plotted curves? Justify
your answer

10.Keeping the potential difference constant, the resistance of the circuit is

doubled. By what factor does the current change in the circuit?
11.Two wires of equal lengths , one of copper and other of nichrome (alloy)
have the same thickness. Which one can be used for i) electrical
transmission lines and ii)electrical heating devices? Why?
12.Define resistance and its SI unit. A piece of wire of resistance 20 ohm is
drawn out so that its length is increased to its twice its original length.
Calculate the resistance of the wire in new situation.
13.The resistance of a metal wire of length 1m is 10 4ohm at 200 C. If the
diameter of the wire is 0.15mm, find the resistivity of the metal at that
temperature.
14.What is meant by electric current? Name and define its SI unit. In a
conductor electrons are flowing from B to A. What will be the direction of
conventional current? Calculate the current in a circuit if 500 C of charge
passes through it in 10 minutes
15.State Ohm’s law. Write the necessary condition for its validity. How is this
law verified experimentally? What will be the nature of graph between
potential difference and current for a conductor? Name the physical
quantity that can be obtained from this graph.
16.Define one volt. Calculate the amount of energy consumed in carrying a
charge of one coulomb through a battery of 3 V.
17.Calculate the resistance of a 1km long aluminium wire of diameter 5mm.
Find resistance of the wire made of nichrome of same length and diameter
also. (Resistivity of aluminium is 28×10-8 Ωm; Resistivity of nichrome is
100×10-6 Ωm).

difference across the resistor.
19.A charge of 200C flows through the filament of electric bulb of resistance
20 Ω for 25s. Calculate the potential difference across the bulb.
20.Two wires of equal cross sectional area, one of copper and the other of
manganin have the same resistance. Which one will be longer?
21.Find the number of electrons transferred between two points kept at a
potential difference of 20V if 40J of work is done.
22.An electric geyser rated 1500W, 250V is connected to a 250 V line mains.
Calculate
i) The electric current drawn by it
ii) Energy consumed by it in 50 hours
iii) Cost of energy consumed if each unit costs 6 rupees
23.An electric bulb of resistance 200 Ω draws a current of 1 ampere. Calculate
the power of the bulb, the potential difference at its ends and the energy in
kWh consumed in burning it for 5 hours.
