NON- VERBAL GROUP INTELLIGENCE TEST (NVGIT)

AIM
To measure the Non-Verbal intelligence of the subject using Non-Verbal Group
Intelligence Test(NVGIT) by Imtisungba .Ao.
INTRODUCTION
Intelligence is the highest attribute of human beings. Different psychologists have
defined intelligence different.
Alfred Binet defined intelligence as, "the ability to judge well, understand well and
reason well."
David Wechsler defines intelligence as, "the aggregate or global capacity of an
individual to act purposefully, to think rationally and to deal effectively with his
environment."

On the basis of material used in the tests, intelligence tests can be classified as Verbal
tests and Non-verbal test- of intelligence.

Intelligence tests that use pictures, designs, material objects, etc., to measure
intelligence are called non-verbal tests of intelligence. In these tests, language is not
used to measure intelligence. In these tests, subjects are not required to respond
verbally to test items. Such tests aim to provide a comprehensive evaluation of skills
related to spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, and abstract thinking.

DOMAINS OF NON-VERBAL INTELLIGENCE:

The Non-Verbal Intelligence Test encompasses the following dimensions:
 Arithmetic Reasoning
 Matrices
 Classification
 Figure Analogy
 Quantitative Reasoning
 Synonyms
 Opposites
 Similarities
 Picture Comprehension
Arithmetic Reasoning: Measures the ability to solve mathematical problems and
understand numerical relationships without the use of written or verbal cues.

NV/2024-25/PSYCHOLOGY/PRACTICAL -NVGIT/CLASS XII 1

Matrices: Evaluates spatial reasoning and pattern recognition by requiring
individuals to identify relationships and complete visual patterns.

Classification: Assesses the capacity to categorize and organize information

based on shared characteristics or criteria, demonstrating abstract thinking.

Figure Analogy: Tests the ability to recognize relationships between visual

elements and apply this understanding to solve analogical problems.
Quantitative Reasoning: Focuses on assessing the ability to understand and
analyze numerical information, make comparisons, and draw conclusions
without relying on verbal expressions.

Synonyms: Although traditionally associated with verbal intelligence, in a non-

verbal context, this could involve recognizing visual patterns or symbols that
share similar characteristics or meanings.

Opposites: Similar to synonyms, but assessing the ability to identify visual

patterns or symbols that exhibit contrasting characteristics or meanings.

Similarities: Tests the capacity to recognize visual or spatial similarities between

different elements, demonstrating abstract reasoning skills.

Picture Comprehension: Evaluates the ability to interpret and understand visual

information, often requiring individuals to analyze and draw conclusions from
images or diagrams.

This test, by incorporating a variety of components, aims to provide a holistic

assessment of non-verbal intelligence, including spatial reasoning, pattern
recognition, abstract thinking, and quantitative abilities. It offers a well-rounded
view of cognitive skills that are essential for problem-solving and understanding
complex relationships in a non-verbal context.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Non-Verbal Group Intelligence Test(NVGIT) was developed by Imtisungba Ao. The scale
consists of 78 items and it measures the non-verbal intelligence, including spatial
reasoning, pattern recognition, abstract thinking, and quantitative abilities.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Non-Verbal Group Intelligence Test(NVGIT), response sheet, scoring sheet, pen/pencil.

DESCRIPRION OF THE TOOL:
The Non-Verbal Intelligence Test by Imtisugba assesses various domains, including:
Arithmetic reasoning , Matrices ,Classification ,Figure Analogy ,Quantitative
reasoning ,Synonyms ,Opposites ,Similarities ,Picture comprehension.

This 78-item test ,featuring 4 options per item ,provides a comprehensive evaluation
of non-verbal intelligence, covering spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, abstract
thinking, and quantitative abilities. It offers a holistic view of cognitive skills essential
for problem-solving and understanding complex relationships in a non-verbal context
PROCEDURE:
Rapport Formation: The subject was made to feel comfortable. General questions
about the subject’s day and life were asked. The subject was ensured that the result
will be kept confidential.
INSTRUCTIONS:
The following instructions were given: There are 78 questions i order from easiest to
the hardest. Each question has given 4 options. There is only one right answer. When
you find out the answer just put a cross mark (×) on the answer sheet against the
appropriate number provided. Practice the solved examples given as how to solve and
mark your responses. Do not mark anything on the booklet. Go through the questions
carefully. The average time limit for the test is 20minutes.Get your doubts clarified
before the testing begins. No question will be entertained when the test begins. Do
not open the booklet until you are asked to do so.
SCORING
Scoring is done according to the scoring key provided. For each correct answer a score
of ‘1’ is given. Total intelligence score and domain wise intelligence score must be
calculated.
INTROSPECTIVE REPORT
The individual was happy to take the test, they felt calm and confident before and
during the test , and was eager to know the result.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
