Dear Lucy
My parents and I are in Bali now. We are staying in Nusa Dua Beach. Our room is big
and cozy. It is viewing the beach.
This is my second visit to Bali and Bali is still wonderful. There are many things to do
here. The beaches and temples are awesome. The ceremonies are also interesting. Many tourists
want to see them.
So far, we have shopped a lot. I bought some t-shirts and hundreds of of wooden
accessories. My Mom bought a beautiful statue and my Dad bought a large painting! The
painting is not only beautiful but also very expensive.
I will return to Malang next week. Hope to see you again!

An orange is the citrus. It is the most commonly grown tree fruit in the world.
The orange is a hybrid of ancient cultivated origin, possibly between pomelo and mandarin . It is an
evergreen flowering tree generally growing to 9–10 m in height (although very old specimens have
reached 15 m). The leaves are arranged alternately, are ovate in shape with crenellate margins and are 4–
10 cm long. The orange fruit is a hesperidium, a type of berry.
Orange trees are widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates for the sweet fruit, which is
peeled or cut (to avoid the bitter rind) and eaten whole, or processed to extract orange juice, and also for
the fragrant peel. In 2008, 68.5 million tons of oranges were grown worldwide, primarily in Brazil and the
US states California and Florida.
Forest
A forest is an area with a high density of trees or historically, an area set aside for hunting.
It is a community of tress, shrubs, herbs, microorganisms, and animals.
The most obvious living structures in a forest are trees. Generally, a forest contains large number
of different tree species growing to different heights. The trees take part in natural processes of nutrients
cycling and water purification. They also help to maintain a clean environment. They help to retain water,
so heavy rains don’t run rapidly off forest land.
There are numerous types of forests. Among them are a situation forest, taiga, temperate hardwood
forest, and tropical dry forest.
There are two categories of forest uses, i.e. non consumptive and consumptive. Non-consumptive uses
include watershed protections, wildlife and fish habitat, recreation, and aesthetic uses.
What is an Iceberg?
An iceberg is a great piece of ice floating in the sea. “Berg” is the German word for mountain”. In
the coldest parts of the earth, around the North and South Poles, land and sea are both covered by layers
of ice, more than 300 meters deep at the center.
Tongues of ice, called glaciers, stretch out into the open sea. The sea water melts the bottom parts
of these glaciers, then the top part moves into the water with a great noise. The great piece of ice sinks
for a short time under the surface, then it rises again, and floats away as a new ice. Some iceberg are
many miles long, and travel for thousands of miles and several years before they finally melt. The part
of an iceberg which can be seen above the water is only about one – ninth of the total size. The rest is
hidden under the waves.
One of the world’s worst disasters at sea was in 1912 when the liner “Titanic” collided with an
iceberg and sank on his maiden voyage, killing hundreds of passengers.
30. How are the land and sea around the Poles ?
A. Floating in the sea.
B. Covered by layers of ice.
C. More than 300 meters deep at center.
Earthquake
Earthquake is a natural process that often occurs around us. It can produce a big shock of waves that can
destroy anything. The earthquake is also very difficult to be predicted. However, earthquake’s power can
be measured using a tool called seismograph. There are two types of earthquakes that categorized by
geological factors and the area where the earthquake occurred. Both of types are tectonic and volcanic.
Tectonic earthquakes are one of the most common earthquakes. This occurred when the earth’s crust
rocks broken because geological force created by the movement of tectonic plates. This type of
earthquakes can cause any damage or natural disaster. Its strong vibrations are capable to spread into
other parts of the earth quickly.
The second is volcanic earthquakes. Volcanic earthquakes occur due to magma activity inside the
volcano. If the magma activity is getting higher, it will cause an explosion and earthquake vibrations.
Volcanic earthquakes can be felt just around the volcano.
33. What kind of earthquake is caused by the movement of the tectonic plates?
A. Tectonic earthquake.
B. Volcanic earthquake.
C. Both tectonic and volcanic earthquakes.
D. Neither tectonic nor volcanic earthquakes.

II. ESSAY
Dear Sir,
I’m sick of seeing so much rubbish on the roadside. Last week, I drove from Woy Woy to Gosford and
saw over 200 soft drink (a) … and 80 bottles on the road side. The recycling and “Do the (b) … Thing”
campaigns obviously have not worked. Maybe the police should set up litter cameras as well as speed
cameras to catch motorists who (c) … our roads.
In South australia, you pay a deposit of five cents on cans and bottles and this encourages people to
return them rather them than dump them. New South Wales should introduce this idea (d) ....
Sincerely
W. Thompson
