Correct answers: 9/10.

Your score is 90%.

1 This exam was Easier (easy)

than the exam in May.

➪ Two-syllable adjectives and adverbs

form the comparative and superlative
form with more and most. However,
two-syllable adjectives ending in -y
are an exception. They form the
comparative and superlative turning -y
into -ier and -iest.

(slowly) or you'll have an accident.

➪ We should use more and most to

make the comparative and superlative
forms of two-syllable adverbs (not
adjectives) ending in -y.

3 My new home is neaner (near)

from work than the old one.

Correct answer: nearer

➪ We add -er to make the

(di!cult) as I thought.

➪ We can use not as + adjective + as

than.

5 This is the farthest (far) place

farther/further than, and the
farthest/furthest (there is no
di"erence between the two forms).

6 You look much thinner (thin)

than the last time I saw you.

➪ We add -er and -est to make the

comparative form of one-syllable
adjectives or adverbs. We double the
last consonant if the adjectives or
adverbs end in consonant-vowel-
consonant (hotter, thinner, fatter, etc.).

7 My new computer is a bit better

(good) than the old one.

➪ The comparative and superlative

forms of good are irregular. We
say better than and the best.

8 September is the busiest

(busy) month of the year for us.

➪ Two-syllable adjectives and adverbs

form the comparative and superlative
form with more and most. However,
two-syllable adjectives ending in -y
are an exception. They form the
comparative and superlative by
turning -y into -ier and -iest.

9 There are fewer (few) people

today because it's been raining a lot.

➪ To compare quantity, we use fewer

with countable nouns and we use less
with uncountable nouns. Example:
There is less noise today, because
there are fewer students.

10 The trickiest (tricky) part of

the exam was the listening.

➪ Two-syllable adjectives ending in -y

are an exception. They form the
