Rationale of the Course:

This course introduces the students with some core topics of power system. After the completion of
this course, students will gather adequate knowledge about the interconnected
power system,
overhead transmission lines,. power system representation.anomalies that generally happen in power
system and switchgear components. Morcover, they will learn different load flow study algorithms
by which they can plan and design a large power system. It is worth mentioning that by completing
this course, they will also be able to contribute in power system sector of this
country.
3 Course Content:
Inductance and Capacitance of overhead power line. Line representation: equivalent circuit of short,
medium and long line. Network
representation: single line and reactance diagram of power system
and per unit
representation. Load flow studies: Gauss seidel and Newton-Raphson method.
Control voltage, real
of power and reactive power. Reactive power compensation. Fault analysis:
Symmetrical fault calculation, symmetrical components, sequence impedance and sequence
networks, different unsy1mmetrical lault calculation. Introduction to different kinds of relays and
circuit breakers. Typical layout of substation equipment.
